Default Dave Patrick Edge 540T Stab Problem

Has anyone had a problem with the horizontal stab adjuster screws lining up with the slots in the stab adjuster rod ?

In comparing the placement of the horizontal stab adjuster screws with another Edge 540T, I found that my planes horizontal adjuster screws were 3mm further from the edge of the horizontal stab than the one that was assembled.

Has anyone else encounter this problem and what was the fix?

My DP edge has a similar issue. One of the stab adjusting blocks is a little farther out than the other. This doesn't leave enough room to properly engage the slots on the alluminium rod. I got in touch with D. Patrick models ( not easy) and after explaining the problem they promptly sent me a replacement rod that is slightly too long (ARRRRRG!!!).
Obviously the location of these blocks varies enough from plane to plane that we will need to make the rod to the correct length for it to fit. I couldn't find any alluminum stock this size, but I found some 5/32 steel stock at a local shop which should work fine. I'm just going to cut it to the correct length and file the flats on the ends for the set screws. The steel will be stronger and I don't think the 4" piece will weigh enough to make any difference.
I must say that other than this issue the plane looks great and the construction seems first rate. I cant wait to fly it. Iowa

Thanks for the input.

I could not find a aluminum rod the same diamenter either. I purchased a brass rod the same size, cut it 6 mm longer and filed the slots. Because the adjuster was so far back in the stab the rod would bind on the edge of the opening and the adjuster inside and prevent the stab from fitting flush with the fusalage. I bent the rod in the middle to give it a slight angle. This allowed the wings to line up with the fusalage.

Danny, After test fitting my "new" rod I found the same problem with the allignment of the holes. Bending the rod slightly in the middle should work fine (good idea!)
There also seems to be a problem with the inner hinge on the horiz. stabs. You may already be aware of this one, but the inner hinge must be cut shorter or it will protrude into the stab. too far and interfere with the large alluminum tube. Look out for this, it would be a pain to fix after the hinges are glued. Iowa

Thanks for the warning on the hinge. I did notice that the problem was pointed out in the instructions.
