got pics of the damage (or anyone else who has suffered the same fate)? I'd like to beef it up a bit this winter before taking her out in the spring..

Cajunpilot, yes, the plane seems to be a little weak in one area of the fuselage....but remember, this plane is built to fly, not to crash.....having a light, 3D-capable plane has to come at some expense!

Yes very true Glowplug. I guess thats why me second plane is a 4*60 and not a twist. I have My Avistar trainer and if it ever bites the dust I'll probally get a ultra Stick for the guts or a Burrito of course with a motor like the 46 fx. I like the durability of the burrito. Only if it was ARf like the Twist. Even If I don't get into 3d which i probally won't I still love the way it flies in general. I would love to get the twist.

When I crash my avistar it breaks but I'm taling about if you make a semi hard landing or a hard landing with the Twist will the fuse crack?

I was fooling around with the flaperons and pancaked mine from about 6' without damage to the airframe. It hit hard enough to splay out the landing gear and bust the prop.

yeah i crashed my twist into a tree 80 feet up, then it fell out and hit the ground strait on the wing/tail. The fuse didnt break, just the wing and elevator. I think there is a sweet spot on these twists where the fuse breaks, and NO the fuse wont crack on a hard landing, i was doing spot landings and i nosed it in cause i wanted to win, nothing broke at all, this is a tough plane, no doughts

I've only had one hard landing with mine, when it was so windy I shouldn't have been flying it! [X(]
Besides that one time, landings with the Twist are so slow and gentle, you really don't have to worry about breaking anything!

No sir, i just went with an old OS FS61. I don't have the money for a new engine right now but hope to make some money over christmas break and get a used saito 82 for a good price. The OS flys the twist pretty good but it doesn't have the power to hover it or anything. My fusealage was easy to put back together, i put a strip of that fiberglass around where it broke to make it stronger.

I flew the wings off of my H9 Twist. Ask anyone at Piedmont. I did every 3D move you can think of, and actually never crashed it once. I had most fun with an OS .50sx and a 12.25 x 3.75 APC. I started out with a TT PRO .46 but then moved on up to it. Never shelled out the money for a 4 popper. I ended up moving up to gas instead. I fly a Yellow Aircraft EDGE 540T with a ROTO 25 and am nearly done with a 28% Extra 300s. I love my big gas planes as I think they fly just as gentle as the Twist, yet also as crazy. Something about that little $99 plane though. There was not much I wouldnt do with it. My fav. was taking off into a knife edge, to hover, to torque roll. The thing would jump off the ground with that OS. 50sx. I beg to differ with gas though. My Edge is designed for a 1.20 to 1.50 two to four stroke, but the gas tank is twice as large as what I am using now. I have just a 16oz tank which gives me close to 20 minute flights.

I will admit though, the worse move I ever made was to sell my H9 Twist Oh well maybe someone will get me another one for X mas!!

'nother twist bites the dust mine went into a spin hard, almost recovered but toooo late and got the famous BWOOOF sound.oops.

Fuse broke (guess where??) right behind the wing, messed up my canopy too, bent the snot out of the landing gear (it went in on the gear, almost straight down except the plane was flat, you just had to see it).

Wing is undamaged (believe that!! I couldnt)

Anybody post a pic of thier fixes? fiberglass or no? just reinforce behind the breaks?

My first time here. I have a twist and been flying for about a month. Then I started reading these threads.. I have a saito 82 14-4 prop cg about 5inches screwed on canopy. I guess my first question would be for you guys with 4 strokes, how much time you getting on tank.. I am only getting 9 minutes, that from startup to dead stick.

I use an OS 70 surpass with a 13 x 3.75 w prop and easily get 15 minutes.

Opus is my pilot! He has been keeping things pretty safe.

I tried a 54 4S ant there was just not enough oomph!

chadvone, is that 9 min. at mostly full throttle? That doesn't sound right. Have you leaned out the low speed needle enough? Saitos are fuel hogs until the low speed needle is leaned properly. I have an .82 in my Pizzaz, and have fuel left after a 10 min. flight (mostly in the mid-range). I think the tank in the Pizzaz is a 10 ouncer.

Most of my flying is around half throttle. few blips to full when trying to hover.
Next time out think I will try to lean out low. Has anyone put in a larger tank?

Mine was set up with Saito 82 and 14x4W APC prop. I used the stock tank, whatever that size was, and I could fly 13 minutes (timer) and still have a little fuel left over. I thought this engne was a powerhouse and a great match for the Twist.
Thanks,
Barry

Not to sound totally stupid here but are you guys setting up the ailerons neutral to the elevator or to the center of the chord of the wing? Thanks Kevin
ps my twists cg came out exactlly at 4 1/2 with the OS .61 in it.

I don't know how much but I set them both a little lower than centered. About a 1/4 or so maybe less. I liked the way it would hover better with them lowered a bit.

Dave

I also had them reflexed a bit with the elevators.

17 degrees today, didn't get to fly twist, but did take Magic up for few minute. Found out twist tank is 11oz , went to LHS (2hour drive) opened twist box and found out the size, didn't have any larger that would work!! Haven't tried to lean it out more.

chadvone, you should get an email notification when someone responds to a thread you've subscribed to. 17 degrees is waaaaaay below my limit for sticking my hand in a prop wash.

Nope not getting any emails, oh well, I keep page up anyway. I have notify me via e mail checked this time.
Anyway Twist was my first plane and I think it is a good one, just wish I had longer flight time, The magic with 46fx will run 20minutes plus, my sig ultimate with fox 40 ran 20 minutes and I landed and still had over half tank. My Spad gets around 15min with 40fp

If seen a bunch with OS Surpass .91's in them and they do just great. They also look to be flying just like mine did with a OS 50sx but with much better vertical. I would assume that since the Saito 100 weighs less than the OS .91 it would be a real fun setup.
