edgeman, did u have to cut the engine box to fit the bme? running a pitts muffler? clearance problems? I was considering a zdz40 but the amout of standoff needed to move the engine far enough forward to get the pitts to work was wayyy tooo much and I wasnt about to heavily hack into the engine box to make it work.. yea yea , I'm lazy.... But considering eventually going to gas and want to find a good fit without making it a hatchet job..

Yes, with the JA Pitts the firewall has to be notched, with the BME bango style no modifications are needed. Actually a simple job, on the cap x I assemble the firewall, on the extreme cap it is assembled and cut with a cutting wheel then box with 1/8" ply. All of the strenght is above the area to be cut, so nothig lost exept a little weight. One of the few small differences between the two is that the firewall needs to asembled on the cap x, just in case you would like to shorten it for some engines. With the BME I am able to use the supplied Hyde mounts with no firewall shortning or standoffs, just have to redrill the engine mount holes for inverted engine mounting! BUT BE CAREFULL, the mounts are slightly offset! Here is a pic of the Cap x, BME 50 JA Pitts. Extreme cap will be the same setup but with BME 44.

The Extreme Cap will get a BME 44. Got a call from Keith yesterday and he had a slightly used one. Should be here monday and I should get to mounting it next week sometime. I will post some pics then. The 44 will get the BME bango muffler so no firewall mod is necessary. If anyone wants to see the firewall mod let me know and I will pop the cowl of of the Cap X and post those pics. Almost forgot, the rudder servo tray should be attached with 2 pieces of triangle or square blocks underneath at each end. There isn't alot of surface for epoxy to grab on to and after 30 or 35 flights on the Cap X mine popped out. I actuall used the wood blocks that are used for pulling servo leads for the ailerons.

edgeman,

Already made the rudder servo mod.. are you going to have to space out the elevator servos in the back like I did? the fuse is too narrow in the back and the servos bottomed out against each other.. had to put a shim in the rear side of the elevator cut outs so the servos wouldnt touch.. what did the bme run ya? just curious... does he have any others?

Looking at the pics of this plane (especially the interior fuse shots), it's got to be made by the same factory that produced the slightly larger (80" wingspan) Hangar 9 Cap 232. If it flies half as well as its larger brother it'll be a great plane!

Yes, I used just enough wood block to keep the elevator servo's apart. The good thing about the location of the elev. servo's as compared to the Cap X is it will put a little extra weight in the tail. Keith was able to get me the BME 44 for $395. Comes with full warranty and he tells me everything is new exept for the piston! E mail or call Keith to keep an eye out if your interested. Their customer service is excellent. I believe the 44 weight is 2.6 lbs. and the 50 is 3.0 lbs.

Someone else thought the same thing. I have never seen a H9 Cap, so I can't say how similar they are. Do they still make the H9 Cap?

Haven't finished mine yet! It's the same plane as the Cap X with a few minor differences. I have lost count of how many flights I have on my Cap X (over 50), It is a great flyer. I expect the same from the Extreme Cap. BME 44 in the extreme, see pics above, and BME 50 in the Cap X.

What are my GAS options on this sucker?

I keep staring at the picture and it's callin my name.... May have to order one this weekend....

Can I use a Ryobi wacker engine on this plane? Want to get a gas plane, Nitro is getting rather expensive.

I would guess that a 30cc. would be the smallest I'd go and a 50cc. would be the largest!

Looks sweet man! Appears as big as your tractor

What does it take to finish? Spinner, engine, pitt muffler, radio obviously.

Do I need any more stuff for it?

Wheels, axles, pull-pull for rudder. I think that's about it!

Edgeman,

How did the weight come out with the BME 44? Did the wing loading go through the roof? Let us know how it flys. One thing for sure, it looks *****in'!

It came in at 12lbs. 0 oz., I could have shaved off a few more onces, I used HS 635 HB servo's in the tail (the carbonite ones) which are heavy compared to my normal setup! Probably won't get to fly until next week due to Charley. Will update then.

Wonderin the same thing... I was assuming 1/4 scale, was looking at the Hitec 705 / 805 or Futaba S3104's. I am assuming also they will need some serious torque no?

EDIT: Hey Minn, what powerplant you gonna use?

Also, thoughts on a hacked Ryobi for power?

At least 70 oz. all around, standard for throttle. HS 635HB Hitec 83oz./6.0v- .15sec., used these on elevator and Futaba 3010 90oz./6.0v- .16 sec. ail. and rudd., 3004 throttle. I used 3010's all around on my Cap-X which is the same plane (minor differences) and it is an excellent flyer!
