My flying buddy has one, the plane flies very nice. He runs it with a 90 sized Saito 4C. With a larger prop the plane can come in on a landing Harrier like, he does not fly 3D but the plane just landed like that. It turns on a dime too. With the Saito the balance was spot on. I think with a YS110 it will have unlimted vertical. I think you are going to have a lot of fun.

Re: WM Velox 60
I have just completed one waiting to be maidened. I'm just a bit concerned about the flying weight (8lbs. dry as specified on manual) as it came out a bit over at 8.75lbs. [
] I installed a YS110FZ and dual elevator setup, other than these.. all are as per the manual. Do you have any idea on the weight of your buddy's plane with a saito 90? Another concern is, did he make any modifications to the pull out wing installation, as I find it not too secure with only a snap on pin holding the rear part of the wing to the fuse. Did his hold out well?
Thanks for the feedback

CV ... my friend's plane with the Saito was about just over 8 lbs. I am sure with the YS110 there is no issue with 8.75 lbs. The YS is reputed to be a great engine and can haul a plane of 10 lbs, not that it will do great acrobatic. My buddy's plane did not have any mods at all.

Thanks a lot for the info. This is actually my first 60 size aerobatic plane so am a bit cautious. I feel assured of the power of the 110, it's the wing loading I'm watching as I know this will affect the handling and earobatic capabilities.
I just read a very positive review of the 60 size Great Planes Extra 300 powered by an on OS91 pump version, wing loading was at 23 oz./sq. ft. while my velox comes to about 26 oz./sq.ft. Not sure if this would make a big difference in performance..
By the way, just as TIANCI mentioned, the base of the fuse is a bit fragile.. and I have read some previous posts here at RCU about landing gear pulling out on hard landings so I have decided to reinforeced the landing gear area with additional braces.

Yup, it doesn't take much to do the reinforcement. You might want to also take a second look at how the pull out wing is fastened to the fuse.. with only a PIN holding the rear part of the wing to the fuse.. I was thinking of embedding a blind nut into the wing spar and run a bolt through the fuse for a more secure wing mounting.

CVT ... somethimes is good that the gear is not reinforced too strong. This will allow the platform where the gear is attached to to tear out rather than hurting the whole fuse. Get my drift?
It would be great for a plane that size to have a 23 oz wing loading. But at 26 oz its still acceptable. My 40 sized Raven is about 27 oz but flies nicely. The wing design will also come into play. From what I have seen the Velox flies very nice.
Careful about what mods you make ... so far there is not report of the wing tearing apart, unlike the GP Lancair. But again with the YS110 you may need to work something out for the win.

Thanks... yes I get what you mean.. good point you got there. But actually the under side of the velox is only covering material..quite simple build, which results to simple repairs.
In fact I read a post of someones experience wherein the landing gear platform tore out altogether with the bottom covering on a not so perfect landing. [

Your wing loading figures seem quite resassuring to me.. feel a bit more comfortable now knowing you've seen a velox perform in flight.
Thanks for all the info. and tips.

My flying buddy has a Velox and it flies great. He has a Saito 100 on it and has unlimited vertical. He has torn out the landing gear twice on not so perfect landings. This is a very tough plane and is well worth the money spent on it. His still has the stock wing mounting setup. I am going to install blind nuts and bolts in mine when I build it. I would beef up the landing gear plate and also the firewall. I am going to install a TT 91 4 stroke in mine and it should fly very nice.

That's just great! Do you have any idea on final weight (dry) of your friends plane? I too originally had a Saito 100 in mind as this engine seems to be the best engine (power to weight ratio) for a 60 size plane. Unfortunately there isn't any sold here in HKG, and the OS91 (w/pump) seems to be mediocre in power for an 8 lbs. plane. Last option had to go with the heavier YS110, I suppose the power would overcome the weight. Yes, I too did reinforce the firewall before mounting the YS110.
Should be maidened in the coming week or two.

Hi Bill
Yes, Radar is the distributor of World Models here in HKG. If you check out their website you can see the shop address and map of how to get there. You can take the train for convenience and get off at JORDAN station.. should not be far from there.

Another shop selling an assortment of planes is WAIGO HOBBY. They sell the FUN KEY planes (yellow aircraft) which are of very good quality too!
Be sure to look this up too.
Happy shopping!

I am an avid fan of Radar and WM planes in general. As for Waigo... I just can't say that I get good vibes from the people that run the store. Radar may not be the cheapest but they are great people and always have a good stock of WM products. They have been trying to sell me that Velox for a while... I would've bought it but I have still 4 planes awaiting assembly. Thats 3 too many in my book. I am, however, contemplating the 60 size spits or new p-51, which looks great.
The velox is a well oiled machine. I have seen it fly with a FZ110 at the field and that things goes up forever. Haven't seen anyone 3D on it but it looks like the power is well above requirements. I think he can perform all the F3A manuvers with no more than half throttle (he says a third but I can see that stick with my own eyes!!! :-)
As for the quality if the kits... Grade A... I use 100% of the parts.
As for Funkey... I think some of their kits are nice but they are the ones that Waigo doesn't carry. Once again... it's not the products, however, that keep me away from them. It's those vibes... But they have a good selection of planes from different makes (Radar is almost exclusively WM) and they have the best stock of electrics in Hong Kong.

thanks for your replies. I've actually been to Waigo before and I don't like the vibes that they give off too. But then a lot of H.K. retailers tend to be a bit unfriendly I've found.
As for Funkey, I've got the 120 sized Cap and extra. I've imported them direct from fun-key factory actually. Turns out didn't saved much for all the hassles.
The best one I've found is in a warehouse which distribute JR, Kyosho, and Saito stuffs. I forgot the name, a friend of mine who's a local brought me there. I couldn't have found the place myself. They used to advertise in the RCM. Their stuff is real cheap.
Do you know the $$$ that Radar is charging for their Velox and their fun world 3D? those are the two I'm most interested in from World Models.
Bill.

Hi Bill
Since I've frequently been in and out of both waigo and Radar.. the staff are quite friendly with me. Though people at radar are just a tad more accommodating. I guess, maybe you get that unfriendly vibe due the language barrier...since they can't speak fluent english as compared to staff at radar..hehehe
I got my Velox at radar for HKD1,680 which is about USD215 more or less. I just can't recall the price of the fun world 3D I saw on display.
I hope you can remember the name of the warehouse selling the Kyosho and Saito stuff.. [
] I have been looking around for a Saito 100 but unfortunately have not found any selling it here in HKG.

Wow, that's almost double the price! Actually I'm from Manila, Philippines. And everytime I go home my flying buddy's ask me to buy stuff for them from here knowing it's quite cheap..particularly engines and kits. RC hobby in manila is also expensive, but not as expensive as in Malaysia! hehehe!

Flyingbells, I think that you might be thinking of Galaxy, which is on the 8th floor of an industrial building. They carry a good selection at quite good prices. But you'll find no Saito's there either... Saito has been sold out in HK for as long as I remember. I only know of a few older models that were once for sale (50 and 70 Golden Knight).
Cuteflyer, where do you fly?

Indeed, I might be. Thinking back, I've brought all 4 of my Saito Engines in Australia. (I think?)
But then I was pretty sure I brought my Saito 100 from that place I mentioned.

I only fly in manila when I go home for holidays.. work here in HKG but have never been to any of the fields here. Can you help me out and suggest other good hobby shops that I can get some planes aside from Waigo and Radar? I will check out Galaxy as you mentioned... any other you can recomend?
Further I read you post some time ago in another thread making mention that you were selling some stuff including a CMP cessna 182. Do you know where I can buy this plane? I have seen it for sale at waigo last month, but when I finally decided to buy it was sold and they still don't have it on stock until now... have just been to waigo earlier today
Thanks for any info.
