I have been looking at both of these plane and would like a little help on which one to get. I am new to this type of plane. I have been flying my sig 4*60 and great planes 81" wing cub but I want something that is a little more aerobatic. so which one should I get I must also tell you that I had a seagull 540 edge that did not make it past it's first flight. one take off and one left turn and right in to the ground I don't think it was the plane I think it was me. also I will be using a GMS .76 engine and would like to know if the extra has a two piece wing.

My only experience with VectorFlight models has been with the 66" Edge and it is a wonderful model with excellent customer support. Mine had a TT 91FS and flew very well. It's slow flight characteristics were as good as or better than some trainers.
If I am not mistaken, I believe that the GMS will pull the 66" as VectorFlight states that they used the same .76 on their test models.
Regardless of which model you decide on, you will be making a wise choice. From my personal experience with VF and what I have read here on RCU from other owners, there is nothing bad to say about them. Their products are first rate and their customer support is such that other RC companies should model theirs after. Do a search for VectorFlight here. You'll be suprised at the positive response all of us who have bought from and delt with them have to say. You just can't go wrong with VectorFlight.
Enjoy whichever model you choose,

I have both, the Extra is a better looking plane, penetrates the air very well and needs carefull throttle management on landing. Don't let it get too slow! The Edge has better low-speed manners, rolls like it's on a rope, and like the Extra is a very good precision/IMAC style airplane. Very good airplanes, extremley good after-sale support, a company that deserves your $ for sure!

Hey guys just wanted to let ever one know that I ordered the extra 300 over the weekend
I have been rethinking my use of the gms .76 for it and may put in a thunder tiger .91 four stroke so what do you guys think about that. also it will be some time before I get to fly it because the boss my wife said that this plane is a Christmas gift and it will be after that before I can get my hands on it
but you never know I might go to the field and have a really bad day

I have a Webra 75 in my edge. I am at 3000ft elevation and it will hover it. Not alot of extra pullout power, but I bet it would at lower elevation. I have a TT 91 four stroke that really looks good but won't run over 2 minutes.

I had a terrible time with the belly pan on my Extra 66". I opted to glue it on and found out after it dried that I did a crappy job of lining it up. Once I turned it right side up I notice huge gaps in the front. I started to seal them with calking then finally decided to rip it off and install a built up pan.
Vector Flight Customer Service offered me a new pan, plus a canopy because mine was slightly less than perfect. They are also sending me more covering to repair the damage I have done gluing the belly pan on. At no charge!!!
This plane is built with quality in mind, and the sevice department has the customer in mind.
If my extra flies as well as I'm hoping, I can see an Edge and Suhkoi being added to my hangar. If nothing else but because I enjoy haveing true customer support. ( In 13 days I have had at least 20 e-mails from them. So I am guessing I have sent them 40 or so!!! All of them answered in a polite manor, and all full of helpfull information!)
I bet they will be happy when I get this built and finally leave them alone!!

The quality of VF's models are superb and their customer service is beyond reproach. VF is a company that others in the rc business should model theirs after. It amazes me that on weekends and holidays you can usually expect a response to emails with questions. I know that while I was building my Edge I pestered that crap out of them. Their responses were always prompt and helpful. Maybe they will grow enough to start thinking about expanding their line of planes. I bet they could come up with one hell of a 3D flyer if they set their minds to it. I think if they modified the Edge a bit with larger control surfaces they would have a winner. Especially as slow as that thing will fly.

I have the VF Extra - there are a couple of mods that are necessary - which I expect you heard from them, but in case not - make sure to attach tailplane braces to beef up support of the horizontal stab - I made mine up from 2-56 wire and installed a hard point at the trailing edge and in the bottom of the fuse near the tailwheel point. you need to beef up the area where the wing mounting is to keep the plywood plate from straining - I used 1/4 balsa to fill in around the blind nuts.
I also beefed up the firewall with another 1/4 ply doubler from the inside - I found the ply firewall a bit soft.
I sealed the aileron gap with monokote, used the supplied hinges, tossed the included landing gear for a fibreglass gear, and beefed up the tailwheel area.
I have an ASP 91 14x8 masterairscrew prop, for power with dubro softmounts, Bisson Pitts muffler, JR 783 with JR 527 servos. and have about a hundred or so flights so far. had an ASP 108 - but didn't make much difference power wise
you're right about power management on landing - it wants to be flown in under power
love the plane - even had an offer to buy the other day at the field - imagine[:-]
The cowl and belly pan are kinda crappy aren't they?[:'(]

I flew my VF extra two to three days a week and it got better every time I flew it. I finaly lost it due to a bad RX battery after around 200 flights on it. This is the best money that I ever spent on any RC product since I started this hobby. VF is a great company to do business with and thier planes are excellent values and they look and fly great. Mine had a TT 91 four stroke on it and it flew the plane great. That GMS 76 should have more than enough power for this plane and fly it very well. I built mine stock and didn't do any mods to it and it held up very well to some very hard flying and landings. I am going to get another VF plane as soon as I complete some other projects first. For all of you VF flyers out there you need to put some color on the bottom of your plane. All white is very hard to see! Here are some pictures of my dearly departed extra 300.

Will I got my extra in yesterday man was that fast shipping ordered on Saturday and got it Wednesday
I still have not made up my mind on the engine yet so I would like to hear from some of you guys that have four strokes in them would like to see some pictures also if you got them. I was looking at the instructions and it said to put some pieces of balsa on the tail to reinforce the glue joint but did not see where vectorflight had supplied any for this so I guess I will have to use some that have laying around but I don't have any covering to cover up the balsa so what did you guys use.

I used polyurethane glue on mine for all the joints- stab, wing joiner etc
make sure to add tailplane braces and fill in around the wing bolt blind nut plate. I am considering beefing up the area where the wing bolts pass through the wing with some 1/16 ply - after a few hundred flights, the area is starting to look a little weak.

I have the 58" Extra and had the MDS 78 on it, later I swapped that for the Saito 91 and man it came alive. The sound and pulling power was awesome. Flew great and took alot of punishment.
If I were to do it again I would go with the 66" version and put a 4 stroke on it like the Saito 100 or YS 1.10.
VF is a great company to deal with.
try the SEARCH feature and look them up here, many threads with info for you to check out

This is one sweet airplane. I flew several flghts today and other than some fine tuning this plane os great. Vector Flight is going to be shipping extra covering with thier planes to add stipes to the bottome of the wing. Kindo like mine.[image
