I'm doing mine as an electric. Just waiting for the funds to catch up so I can complete the deal. Already got the Lipos for it.

I envy you!!! Anyone here has the EP landing gear? Mine was the first batch and I do not have it. There is another Fliton in the LHS and I wanna pick it up for EP and I need the UC. Thanks!!!

Got mine and it looks good. Got the servos on order.

2x HT5245's in the tail (push rod does not look good for 50° travel)
1x HT5625 on the rudder(if this thing does not KE loop I don't want the rudder servo to be the reason)
2x HT635's on the wings. (Don't think I will need more than 30° on the wings? Whatever it takes to keep it from torquing should be enough for me)

Plan to mount the SA100 inverted, not sure if I will use a pump or not yet--thinking of a Vp20 pump and a long straight pipe to keep the plane clean.

Here we go.....

GP - you are NOT gonna need the pump, this plane will have tons of power with the Saito 100. I got JR537s all round, will KE easily. Tomorrow morning its going up with the TT61, sigh ... have to fly her tune her and then get the CG right again.

If I go with the pump it will more likely be because I am going with a longer(to keep the plane clean) & less restrictive exhaust. Keep us posted.

I want to KE loop, that is one reason why I picked this plane over the PL EDGE 540

Why can't you knfe edge loop with the Ef-YAK? It is supposed to be easy with this plane.

Anyway keep us informed about the Extra, building. flying etc.

Thanks and regards,

Nick

Yes the EF-Yak KE loops very well. The EF MINI 3D does a good job also. These planes have got me spoiled for nice on the side flying. That is why I don't want to get into a plane that is not capable and why I went with the Fliton over the PL edge.

I am laying out to cut the two tail servos in now [8D]

Have any of you guys had problems installing the fuel tank? I'm in the process of building mine now, and by the way, the instructions stink. You get a bag full of hardware and no mention of what goes wear. I've also heard that the written CG is wrong. Back to the fuel tank, it's wedged into the engine bulkhead and it would pinch the fuel lines shut. Seems like you have to drill the hole out so the stopper will fit through it. Also the tank is hard against the top and bottom rear bulkhead. Wont the engine vibration cause foaming? does this part need to be clearanced too?

You can put the tank on a foam pad just in front of the wing tube under the hatch by a simple zip ties. The CG is 12.5 cm from LE.

I'm looking at getting this plane and I had thought about powering it with a YS 1.10, sounds like some guys think that would be too much engine, yes-no?

GPSpacewalker, I also thought about putting in two Hitec minis inthe tail for the elevators, let me know how you do your set up please.

I think the 110 is overkill as the plane should come in at 6.7 pounds with it. The 110 is 27.5oz where the SA100 is 21.5oz. -- so 6oz less.

This is the weight range I would run these motors.
SA100--5.5 to 7.5 pound plane 600+ inches of wing area
YS110- 7 to 9.5 pound plane---800+ inches of wing area

I will post my rear servo install soon. Just got done wrestling with the landing gear--the 3rd hole was drilled incorrect so I had to make new holes in the landing gear.

For installing the rear servos do you just have to cut out the covering or is this plane meant to have the servos under the canopy?

Comes with a Micky Mouse push rod system for the elevator---don't think it would be suitable for large throws. You have to cut into the wood, there is nothing cut in. I took some pictures as I did it and will post. I think I added about 1/3oz to the tail, bracing the servo area.

I made a pull pull for the elevators and works great. It has 45 degrees both directions. I also thought putting two mini servos on the tail but the balance problem and overall weight concern made me go for the pull pull with a single mini under the canopy. Plane is 5.47 lb with saito 82+perry pump, 640 lipo + reg, cf lg, hitec 225 on all flying surfaces, hitec 85bb on throttle in the motor box. Flies amazingly light.

YS110 on this plane has been done in Singapore ... one of my pals seen it fly ... her says it rockets out of a hover. Only one issue ... you really need to beef up the firewall and the engine mount box. If you are a 3D fanatic, please take the Saito 100 option, I seen it fly and I wish I could have one, again, the plane needs to be beefed up.

Mine had a Saito 72, its not enough for good 3D ... the minimum should be a Saito 82 on 25% nitro min turning a 14x6 or even a 15x4W. I tried my plane with a TT61 2C and despite having more RPM (both on APC 13x6) than my Saito 72, the Saito was more fun to fly 3D. I am going to try an APC 13x4W to see if it will spool up faster.

As for the push rod on the elevator, it works fine ... mine has easily 40 degrees throw. Hardly any flexing at all.

The ARF comes with a push rod system. I chose to use 2 Digital Mini MG's in the tail (5245's). I don't have the servos yet, but this is what I did to the airframe...
1) I wanted to cut in a little higher, but there was a rib traveling to the tail that I did not want to cut into, so I went just under it.( see picture 2)
2) Used 1/8" ply and cut out U shape that runs to rib and back to tail cross section piece.
3) Ran some 1/4 square across to tie everything together.--pictures don't show that I have 2 in instead of 1.
4) Used 30min epoxy

I am no master builder, so take this example as just what one person did--not as instructions of how to do something like this.

There are no links for the manual that I know of. It is a color manual, but it assumes you are a advanced builder. It never mentions the hatch, how to mount it or anything really. On the list of tools in the front of it I saw a tool listed that I have never seen in my 20+ years in R/C and I fly helicopters, giant scale aerobatic gas planes, foamies and everything else that flies. A Monkey Wrench[sm=lol.gif] That is what the manual calls it too. That ought to tighten a couple of landing gear bolts real well!!!

The manual is a joke. Basically if you can't build it without one, the manual isn't going to help you any. It is a nice plane though.

I have a web page going with some short small quick time movies of the Fliton doing KE if anyone is interested.

The Real Death Slide movie is when I put it in--dumb thumbs.[]

I think I might get this plane, I will probably go with the saito 82 and a 14x4 prop. Just wondering which Hitec servos I should go with. And is using thicker pushrods for the elevator pull pull a good idea or have they fixed that?

Im definately getting one of these!

I get paid in a couple of days so its time to get back into the hobby again, i havent had a flight
in about 8 months (except one or two quick flights a few months back with a foamy). coz i moved from
south africa to the UK so its taken a while to get settled, but i am going mental not owning a plane.
This extra looks like an amazing plane and i cant wait to get one. I have two problems though.
1. I only have an OS50SX (which will just have to do for now until i can afford something bigger)
2. Although i have been flying for like three years now, i have NEVER put together a single plane in my life.
not built one, not had to fix one, not even put together an ARF (sad i know), but i had good flying buddy freinds lol
Anyway its gonna be interesting to say the least trying to piece together my extra, but hey im desperate and it cant be that hard.
there are lots of sites with guides on how to assemble them anyway that i have been reading and if i get stuck you can be sure that
ill be here, begging for tips.My spirits arent dampened in the least though by these things, i am bubbling over with excitement to get back out flying again and enjoying myself. will keep you up to speed with my progress.

thanks
Jens540
