CaptG,

Glad to see you got it in the air and it flys well. I have to wait 'til Christmas. I didn't know how to get dual flaps, dual ailerons and smoke without going to Glider mode.

I ordered a 20 oz tettra tank from CH since I'm now running the Cline regulator. I went to try out the megasmoke pump I had and found a broken wire going to the GWS ICS50 speed controller inside the pump. Repaired the wire and found it can really pump. I am going to replace the light guage servo lead with heavier gauge wire. The pump is basically just a fuel pump, esc, covered with thin pieces of styrene sheet and then shrink wrapped. The motor may have a cap across it. I've mounted it to one of the Motor mount rails to get the weight in the nose.

Where did yoiu balance yours? How is the roll/pitch coupling?

Balanced at 4 3/4 as shown in the manual. Flying just a tad nose heavy at the moment but not bad. Removing some or all of the extra 5 oz nose ballast is a big hassle so I'll just leave it be for now. Roll coupling is nil.

Anyone using the OS 1.60 yet? I'd just love to have something that fit completely in the cowl..

Maybe Saito 1.50 if need be.

I am also considering using futaba 9202 like in the manual?

A Moki 1.35 would be great. Have much time on one with FAI fuel and a 17x8 APC prop. Flew my Chippie all day today - awesome perfomances & great smoke and No Issues!

Hey Guys.

Anybody thinking about powering this plane with the new YS 1.60??
Would an 18X10 prop fit ?
That's what I've been thinking about.

Thanks
Jeremy Smith

Merry Christmas!

I can now officially play with my new toy. I only have to add the tail numbers and fuel dots to complete. Hope to fly it soon.

Back in the early 80's I had a 1/4 scale arf super chipmunk from EZ. It flew like a dream and made me look good. It was powered with an os 120 4 stroke. Judging by that and the many great planes aircraft I have owned I would have to say that this new chipmunk has to be a great flyer.

Flew the Chipmunk today. It was very windy but the plane performed well. I didn't do much more than a few loops, rolls, hammerheads, a snap and two landings. It is a ***** cat but can be turned into a tiger with some thumb movement! The smoke system works great! People were surprized to see that much smoke out of a four stroke glow motor.

Skypilot - What engine are you using? I am trying to decide if I should sell my CG kit to fund the GP 81"

Skypilot - Congrats on your maiden flight! I had 3 flights today and finally decided it's way too fast with the 15x12. I am readying an APC 17x8 to try. Also did the first landings without flaps today since it was windy with a crosswind. No problems.

captG,

Thanks. It was blowing straight across our field today, 10 to 30 mph. I'm using a 17X6 on my Enya 1.55. The speed seems about right. It will still fly faster than scale with this prop at full throttle. At three hundred feet above sea level I have to pull back as soon as the plane goes vertical to slow it down for a hammerhead just kicking the throttle at the top to get some air over the rudder. We took some video of the flights, my flying wasn't too pretty but no mishaps either. The Enya is really running well with the cline regulator and a YS check valve. I don't bother trying to hand start it the first time anymore. I just start it like a YS with a starter to pressurize the tank and it lights off.

I need to adjust my rates and expo. The snaps even on low rate were violent. This is going to be one of my favorates

Tram,

The Goldberg kit is a really good plane. If you have a place to fly a larger plane and can transport it I say go for the GP Chipmunk.
Capt G what do you think?

With the 155 and a 17X6 prop it will take off in about 50 feet. I imagine the plane must have goobs of power with the YS 140. I'm going for a more powerful rudder servo. I have a 6635 Hitec installed but I'll be replacing it with a higher torque Karbonite.

I agree, the bigger they are the better they fly. I can hardly wait for a good day to go flying, the weather is the pits right now.

Got to fly it today in zero wind. It lands very slow with the flaps and the approach angle can be very steep. Three point and wheel landings are cake. I am very happy with it. How are the other Chipmunks coming along?

Tram,

One problem with the 160 is where to put the muffler. The shape of this cowl does not lend it'self to a stock or pitts muffler without cutting. The best enclosed setup would be a ZDZ 40 header flange (which fits the 160) from Krumsfield, stainless pipe and a homemade muffler. The 160 may barely fit mounted 10 degrees below horizontal with a 3/8" spacer behind the prop, It is really close.

I think you would be happy with a Saito 150 or 180 on 10% nitro. The Enya works well also but needs some TLC to keep the plane clean and quiet. Once I figure out how to download fron my camera to the computer I'll post some photos of my installation.

OK, Maybe I'll do some looking for a Saito 1.50, I just like the price of the 1.60.

Will this work?? To all the guys out there I want one. Can I put a 2.1 moki in it up side down with a custom muffler???? Without cutting??? The custom muffler would come out in the "full scale" locations...I would really like to have the power and I would really like to take up that extra nose weight with power more than lead! I have a GP extra with the 2.1 and it flys great...I am trying to do the same setup...Thanks
