Default Fuel Line Setup on Magic Extra OS 46

HEllo all,
quick question. I purchased a Magic extra a long time ago (yr, year and half) and just got around to putting it together. Pretty much done but I am having fits with the fuel line to the rear needle valve on my OS 46. Anybody else running this config? and how do you handle the fuel line? Thanks!!

I have the 46 FX on mine. My memory is a little sketchy, but I recall using some needle nose pliers to slip the fuel line on. After that, I left it there, because I also ran a third line to the fuel tank for fueling. I installed just enough line to be able to grab it and remove a Dubro fuel line plug for fueling. The third fueling line just dangle out the top behind the engine. A fuel dot, fastened to one of the cheeks, would probably be a neater more reliable method though. But that engine takes up a lot of space. There are fueler valves also, that connect in line with the fuel line (tank to carb).

The 2nd clunk and fuel dot on the cheek is a good idea. Remember that pulling on the fuel line with a needle nose is going to tear up the line sooner or later.

Thanks Joe. Just to clarify, I only meant that I used the needle nose to install the fuel line. I never touched it after that - since I have the third line.

I have the same set -up mentioned above , ie. a third line capped off with a fuel dot. Works fine.
The only smallish problem is de-fueling the plane at the end of the day. Unless you put that line in towards the front of the tank and below the stopper & then tilt the plane forward to defuel - you'll never get all the fuel out.

Thanks for all the input! Sorry I took so long getting back to you, been out of the office for a while. The 3rd line is a good Idea, I believe I will pursue that option. Flew the plane this weekend, Great first flight, haven't had time to tear it down and check all the connections yet so maybe I will get to put several flights on it this weekend. Thanks again!

For de-fueling, you could add second clunk in the tank for the fueler line. I did the same as LJR on my Magic Extra. I had to hold the plane on it's nose to take out the fuel. On a later plane I installed the second clunk. Works fine.

I'm confused. With a 3 line setup and 2 clunks, both clunks are in the rear of the tank, right? Why would you have to tip the plane on it's nose to defuel?

Thanks,

Ernie

I use the 3-line, 2 clunk set up on all my planes and it works great. I also bend the brass tubing so it is pointed the right direction when it leaves the tank.

One other word of caution - you've probably heard about the covering peeling on these planes. I don't know what Model Tech uses for covering, but the adhesive doesn't seem to be fuel proof. I'd suggest that you seal down all of the seams in order to fuel-proof them. Otherwise your plane will look old before it's time.

Otherwise, it's a great fun fly.

Since the plane doesn't have an engine cowl, I only need two lines on my magic extra (OS 46FX). I also have a small TT filter between the tank and the needle valve. For fueling and de-fueling, I only disconnect filter end that goes to the (clunk) tank. The line with the filter kind of loops around between the engine and firewall so the filter is easily accessible on top.

Ernie, I think LJR did what I originally did with the fueling line. I just ran a brass tube into the tank like you would the vent line, but straight in, and just inside the stopper. I had to put the plane on it's nose to de-fuel. You won't have to do that with a second line and clunk. You install the second clunk just as you would the first.

gsmarino2000, My Magic Extra is grounded until I can replace my covering. It really is crappy.

Just a little nervous about two clunk lines to the back of the tank. I thought they might tangle /bang into each other/some how be trouble.

But if you say it works, then I'm going to try it.

Don't be nervous, it's not a problem at all. I had this concern too but it didn't cause any problems.
