Rich , I agree 100% . When I inquired to CMP about the potential release I recapped the past failures and pitfalls of the ARFs P40 that have ranged from World models to Global and so on . There are many issues that ranged from the wrong cameo , outline , lack of counterbalance in the tail area, planes that appeared to be "B"& E combinations , bad gear position or P51 style gear on a P40 ect .
The P40 is a great plane but there are very few good ARF/semi kits with the exception of Yellow aircraft . You and I both have the VQ and its probably the best in its class but it still lacks a few basic aspects that would have made it a great ARF of the P40 .
Personally I think a ARF P40 needs proper outline in the tail with the proper counter balances shown , its needs flaps , and most importantly the cowl should reflect the proper curves . Add a good set of retracts in the proper position and you half way there to a nice replica of the P40 -E is my favorite version . There use to be a company in Pottstown Pa that made a 70" B version -fiberglass fuse , foam wing cores, it was an excellant version of the plane but I was not ready for WW2 at the time . I think the compnay has long passed but boy were the plane top notch .

LDM I agree,I didn't choose to buy a VQ model because it didn't have the right curves on the cowl as you mentioned and the tail didn't look right either, and the camo just looked too carmel color insted of tan.
Hopefully one of these 2 companys will get it right!

The problem as observed from the pics would be difficult based on not knowing what material the plane is constructied . The real P40 flaps go slightly into the fuse base , and were much wider then the Skyshark initial release . So you would have to remove the flaps , rebuild them to proper size then attempt to remove the proper amount from the wing and fuse to accomadate the new flaps . I think that is a lot of work for a ARF that will most likely be around $700 to $900.
Skyshark, the owner and the kits are nothing but first class so I assume they have there reasons for the variance from scale . WHo knows the final version may have this corrected , I know they were not happy with some of the characteristics in the test plane and in-tern held release . That reinforces my belief that they only make first quality products .
