Default Christmas ARF?

In the Merry Christmas thread I noticed that some of us have decided to "help" Santa by buying their own plane. I decided to start this poll (oh no, not another poll!) to get a feel for what people are doing (and maybe justify buying the Decathlon ARF and OS FS-70 that are sitting on the shelf at the LHS). So, let's hear about whether you're buying before Christmas.

Oh, and Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!

I buy all the time so it makes no difference ... bad habit! Went to a LHS to buy a servo and ended up with a Zagi Tazz!!!

I know what you mean, I went to a motorcycle shop to buy an oil filter and ended up buying a new motorcycle. Planes are much cheaper.

My riding buddy has a VMAX (and also a Harley Dyna Convertable, and a Honda Valkyrie). I did the crotch rocket thing, Yamaha YZF-600. Sold it after my buddy and I had an encounter with the local law enforcement. At one point on that stretch of the highway I was going 120 MPH, but he was nice and wrote the ticket for 85 MPH. When we went to court, we managed to get it reduced further. I decided the speed was too tempting, and I did not want my car insurance to suffer. Now I've just got one, Harley Dyna Wide Glide.

I know what you mean about moms...

Back to planes, I'm still trying to decide between the Seagull Decathlon (would use my K&B .61 Twister, or buy an OS FS-70), or a Modeltech ME-109 (seems it would be a good match for my Saito FA-45). The LHS is offering 10% off until xmas, so the price on the Decathlon is pretty good. However, I've got a $25 off code for Tower, so I can get the ME-109 for something like $75. Decisions, decisions...

I chose the first option, but that's not exactly the truth in my situation. I did some "horse trading" of RTF planes for my Christmas hobby expansion. It seems everytime I put an ARF together it goes terribly wrong, but if I buy or trade for an RTF plane it works like a charm.

The wife is mad at me. She's all about 'what are you going to buy me'. This past year we just purchased our first home along with a 2004 Ford Expedition. A couple of days ago after getting home from shopping and asking her how much she just spent, (450.00+) then she added, "oh, I still need to buy five gifts including yours" I responded, "Don't buy me anything" she responded, "so you're not getting me anything" she began to cry and called me a scrooge. Now, I'm in the doghouse. What's my point? I'm buying my own ARF this year.

This is where you should have said "I never said that, I just said don't buy ME anything." Simple CYA and no reservation in the doghouse.

Well I guess I cheated. I bought a UCD 46 earlier in the month. Now I'm waiting for the after Christmas sales and the hobby show in Feb. [8D]

tianci, thanks for the pointer. I read the review with a grain of salt. The reviewer sounds like he's used to larger planes. It was good to read that the quality is decent. I was really hoping I could use the Saito, but I guess it will be heavy too. If I get one I may need to rethink my engine choice, I've got two new .36 engines, TT Pro and Webra. Maybe one of those would keep the weight down a bit.

I almost had a new plane under the tree, but my wife and the owner of the LHS have yet to agree on the price. I may have to go there and buy something for myself.

I pìcked up a VF Extra 300s here in the marketplace. I dont like to buy ARF´s but for the price, its cheaper than building a kit.

Went to LHS today and walked away empty handed, well, did buy some fuel, a couple of servo extensions and a new starter insert. I had money in my pocket but chickened out. OH, I did manage to buy my wife some perfume and a watch for Christmas. Maybe now she'll talk to me.

cruzomatic, what kind of LHS is that that stocks glow fuel and perfume and watches for your wife. I hope you havent grown so accustomed to the smell of glow fuel that you think it smells like perfume.[:'(]

You mean you haven't bought any of the new perfume "eau de glow" for your wife yet? It's available at finer hobby shops.

So do your women like the cheap stuff like 5% nitro with castor oil or do they have more expensive tastes like 30% nitro all synthetic oil. [X(]

I bought my own this year, again. Wife wasn't too happy about it because its all about the unwrapping etc. Anyways, bought a Pete 'n Poke already built and covered complete with a Saito .56 4-stroker. Its my 1st 4-stroker! Just like the looks of the plane. Was in the LHS just looking at picking a few arf's that the family could get me when this plane just lured me in!!!

Heh, I'm Jewish so no x-mas here, but our celebration is only 6 days away, it's called New Years!

Considering I didn't get anything for Hannukah (the kids in the family usually get stuff, small stuff), I have a pretty good shot at getting [link=http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/128407.asp]this[/link] (and then I convert it to nitro).

But.. since this is the USA and I live in it... MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
