i am using a st g90 2stroke in mine now. i mounted it on its side with a pitts style muffler. i am using a bisson pitts muffler. the standard slimline pitts muffler is pretty loud and the g90 doesn't perform as well with the standard slimline. however i see that slimline now has a baffled pitts muffler for the g90, which may be worth trying.
anyway i use an apc 14-6 prop on the g90- it does very well with this prop.

I have run engines inverted and never had real problems at all, they main problem is when you start it for the first time. I do not use an electric starter but only a paint brush handle as a chicken stick (I finally bought an electric starter). Starting problems for me has always been the innability for the engine to prime properly. Prime it and the fuel drips out. Once started for the day then next time is easy. Inverted engine running needs just a little patience, I am not a great engine person but it can be done.
rc34074 - what sort of figures are you getting with your G90? Thanks!

i set the high end needle for 10,800-11,000 on the ground. this is a few hundred rpm rich. the engine runs very consistently set this way- assuming the tank is set with at the same height as the carb inlet.
in the air the g90 unloads on the downhills at least 1,000 rpm.
i used to have a saito 100 in this plane- the g90 is easily superior for the way i like to fly - i fly full throttle for just about the whole flight. but the g90 also runs fine at midrange. the key is tank height and a good breakin, followed by adjusting the carb needles. for the g90s i have never tried to adjust anything except just adjusting the needles. for $129 or so they are an unbeatable value for a 60 size warbird.

This is with a 2 stroke, you need to lower that fuel tank or you "will" have problems. Also in a P-51. there is no room for a muffler with a inverted two stroke. So to keep the front end from being all cut up, go with a 4 stroke. Or run a 2 stroke sideways. You going to have cut it up too.

the FTE website says the retracts are for the 150 size P51, is this just a mistake or do they also make them for the 60 size? I assume the wire struts are stronger then the hangar 9's.

I had a OS91FX in mine but the muffler was a huge problem. It wouldn't fit in the cowl at all and just made the plane ugly as sin. I have a 1.20 OS in it now. If you must use a 2-stroke, let me say this. The tank must be placed in the right position. If not the thing won't run worth crap. You can get a muffler from slimline that will wrap around back but its half the cost again of your engine. The sound of a four stroke is far better and the actual performance more scale. They can be flown like a Extra 300 but for my personal taste, I like to see them soar around scale like. You can't go wrong with the reliability and thrust of a 4 stroke, they are awesome.

Nobody seem's interested in talking about an OS 1.08 in the Miss America. [ like mine has ] At 4500 feet elevation, it passes everything else at the field. Oh well, I'll "can" the subject from here on .

Snoop Doggy Bag-
There is room for an inverted 2-stroke and muffler. I use a Magnum 91 XLS with a Slimline sport scale
muffler...works great, wraps around the rear of the engine, fits completely inside the cowl, and I have no trouble
with fuel flow or transition-just needs an electric starter sometimes.
I've always heard about trouble with inverted 2-strokes, but I've seen plenty of installations and talked with owners about it and it seems as long as you're willing to spend the time to adjust the needles properly, they run fine-
just tune it with your ears. If you haven't got a pair, find someone who does.

Look for an inverted pitts muffler for a 2-stroke engine. I have run several 2 strokes upside down. Only pain is trying to start it, but with an electric starter its no problem. Here's a pic of my 80 in mustang with a moki 210 2-stroke, with the inverted pitts muffler. The cylinder head hangs a little out the bottom, and the exhaust hangs out the bottom. I would highly suggest not mounting the engine sideways KILLS the scale looks. By the way if you wish you could cut down the exhaust ports flush, I may do that this year to increase scale appearance.

I would like to say the OS 1.08 is a little large in size and weight for the plane but i can't. I have one stuffed into a WM Midget Mustang.

I have one with an italian made ST 70 with inverted pitts,
runs pretty good
HOwever, my corsair H9 has a magnu xls with bisson standard pitts and a texan h9 with a ST 90 w/Bission and they smoke my mustang heh.. even though in the history books the mustang would smoke them..
But since the cowl for both the texan and Corsair are so big you can mount an engine sideways, but in the mustang that is not an option unless you want to have ugly whole on the side and ruin the scale looks.
get the inverted pits muffler... but it will not perform as well as a standard pitts.
