Default Cermark shipping problem

Hi, I have ordered two planes from Cermark (F-16&Pitts S2B)

since I live in Canada, I asked for the shipping cost prior to ordering

also, I have specificaly asked NOT ship by UPS, since they charge a brokerage fee at the border (others do not)

I was assured what the shipping will cost and that it will be shipped by Parcel Post to Canada...

I placed the order, the total amount was charged to my VISA...

Next day I got a email saying that:

"I am contacting you to inform you of our recent shipping situation for your orders. Unfortunately we were not able to ship Airmail Parcel Post like we usually do to Canada because of the size of the packages. The least expensive option is through UPS which would cost $123.35 for shipping alone."

What should I do? I still want the planes, I have a quote for the initial shipping cost in my email...

I believe that I should only pay the shipping cost I was quoted before ordering. What do you think?

Somebody on the order desk forgot to check and see if the boxes were oversize. They discovered the error and notified you immediately (before they shipped). They asked you what you wanted to do.

Contrast that to Giant Scale Planes where they go ahead and ship the goods, then charge the greater freight, PLUS A MARKUP, to your credit card.

I'd say Cermark is treating you fairly. Either pay the big bucks or find another way to get the goods up there. (Make a friend across the border?)

Sounds right to me!! Did you try Gray Hound or a bus service that comes up your way? A lot of folks have found the bus service to be cheaper and better in some ways. Good Luck and ENJOY !!!!! RED

Well I have some good news, I spoke to Gail the supervisor, she told me they will ship for the quoted price.

Good service from Cermark[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

Glad you got it worked out, but Cermark did the right thing by notifying you before they went ahead and shipped! Sounds like an honest mistake occurred, and Cermark went ahead and took the blow for it to keep a customer happy. I personally don't think I could have held them to there original quote if it was an honest mistake, but thats just me! As stated above, a company like GSP wouldn't have IMO been so good about it, and you may not have even known about the high shipping charges until you got your credit card statement. I have never owned a Cermark Plane, but It seems like they really treated you more than fairly, and I hope that you have expressed your many thanks to them.

Yes Ray, I did express my thanks to Gail. She was very courteous and I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

If their planes are as good as their service, I'll be very happy

Come back and let us know about the quallity once you recieve them. I have never had any dealings with them, and I am always curious about what people think about different manufacturers after they recieve some product from them. Makes it easier to either add or subtract from my list when I go shopping to add another Plane to the hangar. For your sake I hope they are great, because the F-16 and the Pitts are both great looking Planes, and IMO would both be a ball to fly if they are built straight, and strong from the factory! Good Luck with them, and enjoy!

Ray, here are some pics.

the planes are nice, but some miner issues exist on both planes:

the f-16 has a very bad seam on the fuse (see pic) and the servo haches look like they were covered at 4 in the morning...

the pitts S2B has a poor finish , the lines on the wheel pants are way crooked and the paint has some dirt & finger prints in it [X(] & the engine cowl doesn't match the covering very well...

but otherwise the planes are nice

WOW, that f-16 looks fast just sitting there. Sorry to hear about the flaws. If there are visable finger prints in the paint, then I would ask them to replace the parts that are poorly painted. A guy spends good money on a new Plane, he kind of wants it to look like a new Plane. At least for awhile anyhow.LOL Thanks for comming back with the update, and I will also be curious as to how well they fly once you get them RTF. I am also curious to how well they go together, and how well everything lines up. So please keep in touch.
