thanks ken

I have taken a MAS prop and "carved" a blade for a master. The hub is next to build up. Would ANYONE else possibly be interested in 1/8 scale Hamilton or Curtiss display props???? I also have a TF GS 47 and have considered casting one for it also.

I got one of these last week and a new Zenoah G20ei to stick under the cowl, got it together and put the maiden on her today, a perfect combination. the G20 is swinging a 15x6 Competition APC and it accelerates with authority vertically, flew great and slows down to a crawl with no bad stall habits, couldn't ask for anything better.

I like that kind of reports, everything said just in few words and couple of pictures. How do you judge stock retracts?

I'm just getting started with my P-47 and I've never done a dummy radial engine before. What do you guys use to cut out the scrap plastic without damaging the good parts?

Dremel with a carbide cutter bit. It cuts very cleanly.

KC - Nice job!! It's great that we can have this forum to share information. I was thinking of using same engine combo and said let me check RCU if any has done this setup and there was your post. Question for you- how did she balance out with the G20 in there ? Did you need to add any tail weight ?
Thanks,
Nick
Thanks,

Balanced perfect with the batteries on the bottom of the cockpit floor, i even have a 3/8" spacer behind the engine mount to get the recommended distance between firewall and drive washer. I'd guess with a glow engine you'd need nose weight or put the batteries behind the firewall.

I have a question for the guys running Saito 100's.
If you mounted at the stock 45 degree angle, did you have to cut into the cowl for clearance for the rocker covers?
If you mounted inverted (the way I'm leaning towards), did you have any problem with fuel siphoning with the stock tank?
I figured that it was better to draw upon your experience rather than experiment and not be sure what will happen.

And now for another question regarding the centering lines on the firewall. The verticle line appears to start at the center on the bottom and veer off towards the right as it approaches the top. Maybe it's an optical illusion. What do you guys think? I want to mount an engine possibly inverted and I don't want to mount it offset.
Thanks,
Birman

It's not an optical illusion.
The design of the model is to have down thrust and side thrust. Most model airplanes have offset thrust lines, or at least one, usually right thrust. This one has both.
The design accomplishes the thrust offsets by angling the firewall so that the motor mount will point to the side and down. When that is done with a model that has a cowling, if something isn't done to correct it, the prop winds up off center in the cowling opening. That looks bad. So they offset where the motor mount attaches. Then the motor mount points the prop shaft down and to one side, but the prop winds up being centered in the cowling.
You bolt the motor mount on the firewall offset from center so that the prop winds up centered.

Out of curiousity, do you need to add the down and side thrust for a gas engine as well? If so, do you know how much? I just bought one of these birds and was thinking of going with the G20EI. The owner of the hobby shop I bought it from is telling me its a great little engine for this plane. I dont really have the tools to measure the angles to acheive the proper thrust angles. If its a big pain, I will just throw a 100 saito in it.
If I can get the gasser to work, what size 3 blade prop are you guys running on it?
thanks

RE: H9 60 Size P-47 Thunderbolt-Build & Flying
a gasser needs the thrust even more so then a glow engine because of the torque in most cases. the G20ei works Perfectly with the thrust angles built into the Jug already, just install the engine inverted and go fly it [8D]

Can I see a pic of the other side of your P47, I just want to see how much the velocity stack of the G20ei sticks out the cowl.
Thanks

it can be seen in this same pic from above, the carb sits flush with the cowl, almost the entire velocity stack sticks out.

Thanks, hhmmmmmm that gasser does look nice. I like my OS91 surpassII, but the G20ie is something to consider in the future!!!
