So what was Hitecs response when you contacted them about the lock-up that destroyed your model?

Dose, send the Optic to us, so we can determine the problem. I tried to duplicate the problem, and can't seem to do it with my Optic here. If the radio is found defective I'm sure we can help.

Hi Orlando,
this radio is an older model unit. Version 1.1 is the older version, this version has had a couple of bugs with it. It's been posted many times, so we are aware of the problem. The newer version is version 0. They went backwards on us , and came out with a 0 version on all the newer units. Once we receive your radio, I'm sure we can replace it, and maybe get you a few added electronic extras for your loss. I'm a flyer myself so I understand the time, and effort that goes into these aircrafts.

Hopefully it works out, but I'm still going to be out a nice engine and plane. =(
Ill ship it out tomorrow during my lunch break.
Should I put any notes in the service request form?

Thanks

mmm...maybe that explains why mine (version 0) does not lock up.

How do you tell what version of the firmware you are running?

Hitec = Garbage If you want dependability get Futaba. I've used their products for quite a while without a single failure.

A close friend of mine just bought a HiTec Optic 6 - so I'm watching this thread to see what happens with them.

i think there are always bad apples. i had a JR radio do strange things as well.

but as for my hitec eclipse, nothing but good things to say about it. i use it in conjunction with the spectra module and polkshobby seekers and i've been very happy with the combination. unbeatable for the price. almost unbeatable at any price.

now i'm waiting for hitec to come up with something that will compete with the 9CAP or 9X. if there is anything to complain about, it's with the limited product line.

After thinking about it a while, why didn't you change your mechanical setup rather than dialing in so much subtrim? I have a tendency to fix it mechanically if the subtrim goes beyond + or - 10. Just curious.

As much as I like many Hitec products I am at the point where I simply won't buy any more of them. I had an issue with their digital servos when they first came out. They would lock when exercised. I tried all of the things their support asked me too which included changinv extensions and recievers but the problem was still there. I sent them in and they reprogrammed them but the problem still existed. After going back and forth I got upset and threw them away. I have freinds that have had nothing but good experiences but most have had at least one issue. In my opinion if their is a defect in the system they owe you a new plane and engine. That said the few hitec products that I continue to own do work fine but I limit my future purchases to JR or Futaba as I run both currently.

It was the planes first day at the field and it was too cold to work on it there. So i figured ill use the subtrim now and when i get home il look at the throttle possition and fix it while im in a nice heated room.

A pretty resonable thing to do and while I think there are several things that could have been done differantly the crash wasn't your fault and can be completely blamed on the software glitch.

From the response here on RCU there does seem to be some hope of recovering some of the damages in the form of Hitec equipment. I don't think it is reasonable to expect a radio company to supply you with a product that they don't carry such as a plane or engine but I would figure a comparable value of their equipment that you could use in the future and privately request that they compensate your loss with that.

I doubt that the service reps have a petty cash fund that they can pay off customers with but I do think there is a relatively easy way to write off some equipment for a sponsored pilot.

I purchase my radio from Tower about 2 months ago and it was shipped from Las Vegas I believe, as at that time they didn't have any in stock, and checking it out its version is 1.1, I wonder if there is a fix for this problem, can the programing on this radio be updated? It seems to me that the only way to have this glitch to occur is to have a third hand toch the trim tab while flying, as if flying it would be very difficult for the person holding the radio do all those changes at the same time. I somehow makes me a little nervous that there is a broken link somewhere in those chips. Someone else mentioned that these radios have another issue, which one would that be?

I know of 4 Optic 6’s shipped mid year from Tower Hobbies.
They all have the “Countdown Auto Destruct” feature.
Software version 1.1

If you have version 1.1 I would think about contacting Hitec support.

As for Tower Hobbies, they must have a warehouse full of the
Auto destruct models.

One would think that Hitec would contact Tower Hobbies and other
distributors and recall them for a firmware update.

There is a Legal issue of liability here. A now known problem
that makes aircraft fall from the sky at full power is scary.
