Howdy,

How much of the U shaped portion of the lower cowl did you cut away? I have cut back to the ridge and it doesn't quite fit. It looks like I'll need to cut away the ridge, but I am afraid that it will lose some needed stiffness. I am mounting my engine inverted and will need another opening in the bottom for th muffler...

Also, the book included in my CAP shows two bolts on the landing gear, but my model has four... Is this a newer version? I thought the latest version had a hollowed out foam turtle deck. Mine did not come hollowed out...

TIA for your help.

As a follow on to my previous question (hope I get more responses... )

I am worried that I won't mount the cowling "square" to the fuse. This is important since I am going to use it as a guide for mounting my ST 3000 inverted (any comments on this welcome ). I am thinking that since the firewall has right thrust built into it, and since the crankshaft opening has a similar angle, that if the measurements from the firewall to the front of the cowl are equal and both the left and right sides of the openeing the cowl is square to the firewall. And, if it's square to the firewall then its square with the fuse... Does this sound okay?

TIA for your help.

Check for interference with the landing gear, or the gaps between the fuse and the wing the cowl slides into. The ridge may interfere in this area only. Do this without the engine installed. Follow the instructions on the engine mount placement. They are spot on from my experience installing a YS140L in that plane. With the engine installed in the proper alignment the cowl can be manipulated a bit to line up with the spinner backplate before you drill the cowl mounting holes.
