tks-dfman- i 'll wait and see first , the st of old was so good it would be a hard act to follow the aitais made really good engines, not always the most power but so far for sure the best quality.

me and my dad are always checking things out and we decided awhile ago to open some engines and compare, we took os46fx/sc46s3/asp46s3 and mag xls46 and guess what we've had a cloning. the parts are almost if not 100% interchangeable, and all except the os are true abc and the os barrel is nickel plated . interesting no.

Default Seagull PC-9

No experience with the VMAR, sorry

I just got the Seagull PC-9 a couple of weeks back. Reasonably nice kit, but the instructions are a bit crappy. Worst feature is the nose wheel steering arm (very loose), four other owners of this model complained to me of the same problem, suggest you change it if you do purchase the kit. Also, the wings are a real pain to get aligned properly when joining, this took me a good hour to get it done, so dont believe the claim they make of assembly needing onely and hour.

It flies quite nicely, can be fun to play with in the air, and is reasonably crash resistant (for an ARF). I had mine go down on a dead stick landing, the nose wheel decided to part ways on touchdown, and flipped the model over. No damage though.

Overall, its a nice kit, though not as good quality as the big names like Great planes and such, but when you consider the price difference, its worthwhile. Mine is modified for flaperon operation, but havent tried it our on landing yet. Has anyone else modified the model for flaperons?

DFMan
By now you must be tearing the box open, but don't rush the assembly.
I'm sure you'll be surprised the way they don't bounce around in a breeze like the flat bottom wing trainers, just don't let it get too far away, as somebody earlier mentioned, the wing colours are identical top & bottom.
Also don't believe any crap about them dropping a wing if you hold it off a little for a smooth touchdown on the main gear.
Col Taylor still has them at $229 with the 80" version at $529 but at least you're doing the right thing and supporting your local shop.
I just know you'll really enjoy it.
Marshy, I'd appreciate it if you could measure the diameter of the cowl (inside the lip) of the Corsair as I'm wondering if the Saito 3 cylinder 90R would fit in ?

Sorry Adrian, I forgot the AUD$ sign.
I think your US$120 is around AUD$210.
You mentioned some guys were looking at the 80" PC-9, I also heard one bloke saying it was a good choice for a petrol engine.
Would you ever consider petrol or stay with the glo ?
Also what do you think about a Saito 90R 3 cylinder radial in a model like the VMAR Corsair ?

Default PC-9 nosewheel

Adrian,

I didn't mean the nosewheel is loose, I meant the steering arm is loose, for the seagull kit. Don't know if the other makes suffer this problem

Default Almost there....

I mounted the engine tonite.....cowl and all. Have a fuel dot, Remote glow plug, and the cowl is cut open for proper cooling. I replaced just about every nut and bolt on the thing. Also got new hardware for pushrods....

Got a little discouraged...had to give it a break for a bit.

Cappie,
Don't be discouraged.
You've done a great job mounting the engine without a huge hole in the top of the cowl.
It looks a lot nicer than the ones I've seen,
Well done.

Cappie,

Nice job, a lot neater than mine. That front end is a pain to work on, but you have got it looking real nice. Dont get discouraged, get yourself ready to have a blast flying it.

One thing I did find on mine was the problem of balance, it was very tail heavy, hopefully you can avoid that problem.

Good luck for your maiden flight

glitch - tks. yep we were looking at the big pc9 if it flies as well as the baby it will be great to add to collection. we are not to keen on gas ,we have some guys using zenoa's and fuji's very nice to work with but no umph for weight. man that saito radial surely is special i would just put it up for show and never take the chance to wreck it . is the corsair 40 or 60.

Default Encouragment...

Thanks Guys,

I almost through the motor mount away...it is a joke. We won't even go over the instructions... I swear the stock pushrods look like punji sticks!!!

Adrian, first thing I do is take that silly baffle out of the muffler. The radio gear is goin' in tonite and should be ready for a maiden flight this weekend.....suppose to be cold and windy though.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

won't waste my time with the sticks . we lost 2 seagull planes with the bad sticks, i personally wrote them about this. as we have a pc9, pt19, 2x stearman, p51, extra300 and the new edge540 also a cap232 a ultra3d all seagull so we certainly know the short comings . we have had a very positive reply a massive discount voucher on our next seagull and as in the new edge540 massive quality improvements.

the baffle is in the standard exhaust normally a little plate or cone, remove it it will give you 300+rpm and do no harm off coarse re tune but thats all

Default Muffler Baffle

OS Muffler Baffle

I take it out automatically....something they show at the local hobby store. It's better to break the motor in without it, basically the engine breathes better, less back pressure.

Adrian, do other engine manufactures have a baffle? I have only OS 2-strokes....
