Scale High Wing ARF ?'s
Hey guys! Been doing some forum searches and research regarding Piper J-3's. I have a few questions that I hope some of you would be willing to clear up.
First some background. I've been flying a SSE for my second plane. Now I find myself flying my heli for that adrenaline rush that I need at least once a week. However, I've been wanting to get a plane to fly during those "cool off" periods between heli flights, as well as those days when you just want to sail around the sky with some sense of relaxation. The SSE is cool and all, but I'd like to get into something bigger and more scale.
I know that I would like something scale and at least a 60 size. I especially like the look of high wing civilian aircraft, as well as some of the vintage bi-planes. I've been looking at the different Piper Cub offerings by different manufacturers. So:
Question 1: I'm familiar with Cubs and the Monokoupe. What other airplane ARF models are along these lines (high wing, golden era of aviation, etc.) I'm not quite familiar with the various names of these types of aircrafts (Cub, MonoKoupe, ????)
Question 2: I really like the new Zenoah G20 engine (very cool). Does anyone know if you can fit one into a WM 1/5 (60 size) Cub without destroying the cowl?
Question 3: What other high wing ARF's will go well with this engine?
Thanks guys!

Don't know if it is scale enough for you, but how about going up to the G26 and putting it into a Sig Rascal 110? The Hangar 9 1/4 scale Cub and Super Cub would also be ideal for you, but they are not in production now.

You want scale? These guys have just what you may want.
http://www.rcguys.com/cessna.htm
It may be a little big (96" wingspan) and a little pricey ($500.00)
but is a scale model of a Cessna 152 Aerobat.
Looks like a G-26 will fly it just fine.
Mine is on the way in late August.

There is also the Hangar 9 Cessna 182, the large one. I don't know if the Zenoah 20 could power it, but the 26 could. See it at:

Great, you guys have given me some choices-exactly what I needed.
So, does anyone know anything about the 1/5 (60) size WM Cub? In you opinion, is it worth getting the clipped wing version?

Dick;
I'd be REAL interested in your thoughts on that Aerobat, once ya get it. The ad looks good but I'd like to see what ya think before I pull the trigger. I'm always looking for 1/4 scale ARF monoplanes, Classics or 1950's + 60's. I've been flying nothing but my Superkraft Monocoupe for the last year,,and loving it!

other than the monocoupe, there's also the rearwin speedster from kangke that you could probably fit a gasser without much issue. but it won't be the 20! something larger would be required.
there's also the dehaviland beaver a cessna 152 and a cessna 185 from KMP that would be fine with the zen 20 (i think since the 23 is fine) comes in two colors.
there's also a Dornier DO27 from vmar.
those are what comes to mind. i have the monocoupe and think it's the best looking classic plane there is!

forgot to mention Experimental (also with KMP) as an ultralight and a glastar that also fit the bill. think the glastar is particularly good looking in the pictures but never seen one in real life.

As much as I like Cubs, the suggestion above regarding the 110 Rascal is a good one. I have the 40 size, love the heck out of it and fly it all the time, a very easy plane to fly. I'd looked at the 110 and wanted to fly one to see if it was anything like the 40 size. Went to a fly-in on July 4th, and a guy had the 110 with a G-26. For a plane not advertised to be a great aerobat, it amazed me what he did with it. Rolling circles, Harrier, flat spins, knife edge, and he'd come down the runway on one wheel with the wingtip about an inch off the ground. He let me fly it, and I honestly think it flies more easily than the 40 size. It will fly almost at walking speed but will haul butt if you want. It would make an awesome floatplane.
