I am using a OS 91FX engine, and a bisson exhaust, and I have the battery(1600mah 4.8v nimh) as far in the as I can reach, and to get it balanced I need 3 ounces of weight on the tail. Does that seem like a little to much?

I am considering taking the OS91 Surpass II (pump) out of my chipmunk for this plane. Think that would make it sail?

Hopefully I can get it in the air tomorrow. Run a couple tanks through it on the ground and then get it airborn.

Got the Maiden in on the Shoe with the Saito FA-80 in it. I was skeptical that it would fly at all, but it did. It actually had a little speed to it to boot. However, I can plainly see that I will have to update eventually. The handling is superb. Rolls are blazing fast. It will do a full pull loop without a hint of snapping out and keep right on chugging. Landings are fasst like I rememebr them, but that's not a big deal since I have a 2200' x 80' runway to play on. If I can't land it on that, I need to take up another hobby. Mine carries itself on 3.25" wheels under the pants and handles very well on grass. The previous owner beefed up the gear area nicely and it shows. The grass was pretty high. I look forward to stretching this one out for years to come.

No t sure if your aware of this but I use Kavan wheels on everything I have. They have save my planes from quite a bit of damage. They are made of hard plastic. What this does is if you come in to fast and have to commit--or abort a takeoff. You can slide the plane sideways with no wheel hopping like its on ice. You do this with sullivan or skylight and your going to rip out the gear and or other major damage.

Anyone got any comments about a Shoestring with a YS110 turning maybe a 12x10 prop?

Does that work on pavement or grass?

Anybody have any problems with the 91fx and the bisson pitts muffler? I took it down to the field today and it acted like there wasnt enough back pressure from the exhaust to the tank. Turning the high end needle did nothing.

yesterday mine started leaning on me with my 61FX, and on one low pass the engine went from max RPM to dead, no hesitation.
I had enough speed to do a big banked turn (I love this plane's stall characteristics) and get turned upwind and glide althe way to the far end of the runway before rolling into the tall grass. Upon inspection, my Slimline F1 fueler cap had fallen out. That was the least of my worries though because I could see that everything inside the cowl was coated with fuel and oil.
Turns out that my fuel tank stopper had worked loose - I initially thought I had a leak in my tank right at the neck - cause when I filled the tank fuel would pour out the hole int he firewall.
Am I the only one that noticed that the stock fuel tank doesn't seem to really fit between the firewall and the F1 former without a lot of muscle involved?
Also - mine, and a buddies both had issues with the 2nd and 3rd formers in the fuse coming ungled from the sides of the plane - a little epoxy and tri-stock is a quick cure.

I love the looks of the Shoestring, its so nice and I have a YS110 sitting in the hobby room. With a 14x10 I should be getting about 9,750 RPM only. Still would be really interesting. I think I have a 12x12 prop somewhere in the bag. Hmmmm ... I would estimate the top speed to be about only 90 mph. Not ballistic but then with a 14x10 she will really have good thrust.

Upgraded the powerplant this evening.
Before = Saito FA-80 on a 13x6MA
After = OS 91FS Surpass II w/pump on a 13x11APC
Think it will go faster? [sm=48_48.gif]

We clocked one on a handheld radar gun with a Saito 100 and a 13x10 K-series - was somewhere in the 110-114 range if I remember correctly. We're only 70 feet above seal level here - engines make a good bit of power.

When you guys change the color scheme of your planes, do you paint the cowls and wheel pants or cover them? How long does a job like that take, covering a shoestring.
