For those using the OS 160 what size tank are you using and how long does it last you? IE, how long (or how many flights) does a gallon of glow give you, and what type of glow (% nitro) are you using? Anybody put a smoke system in here? Also, if you could tell me how much the plane (servos/engine/and-all) cost you about, that'd be great.

Thanks

I think it is a law that a hot rod bipe has to have a 4 stroke. I am flying mine with a Saito 180 and love it. I just got back from flying and love my DP Ulty more everytime I take it out. Got into some gorgeous upright and inverted power on flat spins today.....all I can say is YEE HAW!!!!!!

The RCS night weigh what the os 1.60 wieghs, but add ignition, ign battery, and ign switch and you are 40 + oz with battery.....oh and less power. I found one guy that had pretty good luck with this combo, he is running it with no muffler tho! more rpm, but DB's are in the 110 range.......LOUD!

Using a Satio 150 on mine, getting prop numbers real close to the 1.80 hear at sea level, but much better on fuel with the smaller carb.

I agree that this plane should have a four stroke on it! I love os engines, but you can not beat the sound of a four stroke.

The 4-stroke may sound better but damn, it sounds like the Saito 1.80 uses shreaded up $20 bills for fuel! Breaking it in sounds like it costs close to $50. I'd rather have more power and waste less fuel with the 1.60, and it costs less. Damnit I'm already talking like I'm going to buy this rig.

i have a 20 oz glow tank on mine, i have a 24 oz smoke tank. i fly for 12-15 minutes. i can come in at 1/2 tank on 12 minutes flights i very seldom need anymore than 1/2 throttle even for uplines. 3.7 hp is quite a bit as i love to have it but i had unlimted verticle with the 2.7 hp satio 180. I can get at least 7-12 flights on a gallon. This os gets better gas milage than my 2 previos satio 180. i have tried the pitt and jett turbo muffer (now welded) the jett is very quiet. i have tried the 18 x 6 pro zinger outstanding for 3d, a 18 x 6 mejzlik 9600rpm i thinks that is a littlet to small. a 18 x 8 moki quite fast but easy on the throttle it goes a long way, 18 x 6 wide apc pretty good imac prop spool up time is noticable slower than any of the other mentioned props.

Default It's been a labor but

Even though it is taking me forever with bouncing between projects,

I will have my DP Ultimate with a Fox 2.4 RTF, maybe by the end of the week. I too toiled over this question and decided that the little extra weight was a small sacrifice for the Gas compliment I wanted to add. This along with running Duralites is actually balancing out just great with no added weight in the tail so far.

Default Shaun

What with prop covers, pilot figure, elevator 2721 rudder 8231, 4 X 517's ailerons and metal arms, DRY....
Running Duralites,
She comes in at just under 13Lbs.
Still needs aileron push rods and switches

i like the sound of the satio better both have strong torque which is suprising seeing how one is a two and the other a four stroke. Money wise i find it hard to believe i was spending close to 400.00 for a 180 when you look at the price of a OS-160.....i have owned over 6 satio in the past 3 years.......they all ran flawless. i usually sold plane and motor as a combo but the last satio that was on the DP was sold after 5-7 flights to go gas with the RCS 1.4 bad move.. the RCS 1.4 is happy at home on my funtana now....

Default FYI - A Tricked out DP Ultimate FS

Tho I love my DP Ultimate, I'm selling it and a few others to make way for bigger gassers.

Having just switched over to the O.S. 160FX, this thing rocks as many here will attest to... I've got the carbon fiber gear on ine too and it comes in at 12.25 lbs...

I like my Saito 180 alot.... it is new I guess I have about 2 1/2 gallons through it. I can feel it getting stronger and using less fuel. I am turning a MA Scimitar 17x8 at 9K..Wildact 20% heli mix. The Saito 180 does sound great doesn't it? I love the OS 160 too.... I like not having to cut the cowl so much for the Saito.

I have a friend who tried one of these with a FPE 2.4...sure sounded neat, but the YS 1.40 he had on the plane before made it fly a bunch better. And the gasser liked to shake things loose. He's building another one (gravity stinks...), and is putting the YS on the nose...and his old FPE is now on the nose of my 25% Cermark Sukhoi...Balanced perfectly without any weight added...gotta love planes with a short nose...

Default Well

I have just fired my Fox 2,4 for the first time tonight and shake she does not. Took a wee while to dial her in but man what a sweet idle.

I must say, this thing is way overpowered. In fact I am shocked at what Ooomph it has.

I could have done with a Saito 180 or an Fx 160 but I was bit by the gas bug.

Man.....mine is light compared to the weights I have been hearing. I am at 11 pounds with my Saito 180. Unbelievably forgiving at this weight. I flew a Goldberg/YS 120 AC for 6 years and loved it.....but this DP flys MUCH better.

The Edge:
Can you give us a flight report now that you have sometime on the gas deal. I am loving flying my ultimate but i'm not enjoying feeding it the green stuff.

I am looking hard again at doing a ARC with a gas 2.4 or something in that range....

I pulled my Saito 180 out and installed a YS 140 DZ........ AWESOME!!!!!!! In my opinion... well worth feeding. I am at 11 lbs which gives it a 20oz/sq in wing loading. It flys great and has plenty of power. The DZ is much stronger then the Saito and runs smoother... also uses less fuel. I am very pleased with this set up.

I wasn't happy with the power... it felt more like a tractor. The DZ produces the kind of power the Ulty needs.... now it is a true hot rod bipe. The DZ runs smoother.... more power.... and uses less fuel.

Do not forget that your prop can also control how your plane flies. I have the 1.80Saito in mine and have found that the plane flies much better when I carry a little more pitch than when the engine was on my Cap. I fly the Mexz and Scimitar 17x8's.

I found the Scimitar 17x8 worked best on the Saito 180 as well. The DZ loves an APC 18x8 wide and turns it at 8900. Don't get me wrong.... I am not bad mouthing anyones set up. I had a chance to get a DZ for $500 so I jumped on it..... I am very glad I did. The DZ is a very powerful masterpiece of modern engineering.... a joy to own.

Default Ultimate C.G.

I too am putting together a DP Ultimate with a Saito 1.80, mid size digitals for the wing, Powerflite batteries, and carbon landing gear to keep the weight down. I am curious if any one has tried moving the fuel tank back to the c.g. to keep the balance consistent throughout the flight? If so, where did the plane get balanced as moving the tank affects the overall c.g? I have read various postings about the Cline regulators that seem to work very well, giving me the idea of moving the fuel tank. I realize that the Saito 1.80's are thirsty monsters, but their light weight and lower cost, plus the fact I have 6 other Saitos that run wonderfully were a big influence in powering this aircraft. Any opinions regarding the tank placement would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Russ
