You guys asked my to post a quick review of my new WM Cub (71" span) build, so here it goes.

Overall this is a great ARF. It’s a great value, complete, and easy to build. I did find a few quality issues, such as holes that were not drilled, and the covering, which just needed some shrinking.

I tried to keep things on the inexpensive side going with Tower 3000 standard servos all around, and a Tower .46BB 2-cycle motor. Everything considered, this model is less than $300.

As you can see this is a great looking model. It looks and feels solid, one of the best ARFs I’ve ever put together.

I’ve not maidened this yet, still waiting for that windless day which is few and far between in Northern Virginia. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Enjoy.

You'll have fun with it. I like my WM blue clipped wing cub alot. It went together easy and flys very good.

Thanks. I thought the recommended throws where a bit on the conservative side, did you use spec, or adjust to be a bit more nimble in the air?

Actually a little bit of both - I have a Futaba 6XAS so I have the specs on low rates and upped the percentage to make it more stunty on the high rates.

May I ask what engine you have on that baby?

I have that plane with 12 cells on a brushless motor. It flies great. I noticed that your's has the same problem as mine and that's the negative dihedral. I adjusted my struts to compensate. If you lay a long straight edge along the top of the wing it should lay flat.

It's an easy flying plane. Fly it slow and it will be very forgiving.

Thanks. I can understand why so many guys e-convert this model; it is very light for the size. I typically fly electric, but have been building a few glow models lately.

You freaked me out. I put an edge on the wing, seems okay. How does it look to you guys?

How did you adjust your struts, by the way?

Note the struts where not attached in that shot, but it's about the same when attached.

Good for you. It looks like yours is OK. The second pic of this thread makes it look the wings are drooping.

To fix it, I elongated the hole in the strut at the wing attachment.

a student bought one of these as a second plane. i hope you guys have touched on something that may be the culprit for this little cub being one of the worst flying planes i have ever encountered after 25 years of flying. everything has been checked and rechecked to try and isolate the problem........but not negative dihedral. will check this the next time i am in his shop. thanks for the tip!

Don't worry too much about negative dihedral on this model. I have one and thought the same as all of you, and got our club expert to try it out before I had a go. The two of use seem to think that the Cub only seems to have negative dihedral. Interestingly enough I have seen a few full sized Cubs take off and thay also seem to have a downwood curve in the wings. As for why yours didn't fly well, not sure, but remember one thing, dont fly this Cub with a cross wind, I't does a pritty good cart wheel if your not carful
