Hey everyone.. My Twist BIPE is coming together. I have the wings mounted and the struts are almost done - all that's left is the engine and radio. I have a Magnum 91 Four Stroke for the plane. I don't think it will fit in the motor mounts that are designed for the plane. What aftermarket motor mounts have you guys used that may be able to use the existing blind nuts? Thanks all,

Sachin

I put a magnum .91 4-stroke in mine. All I had to do was move the blind nuts about half a hole wider and still used the stock motor mount. It's tight but it will fit. I would love to show pics but I got shot down and no longer have that set-up.

It doesn't seem like it's been a whole year since Jack passed. It seems like just yesterday I was reading one his posts about his day of flying. Jack may no longer be here with us but his legacy and wisdom will always be with us.

Wizzbang,
I also drizzled some epoxy on the landing gear block inside the fuse, we have a rough runway, one soft landing tore mine right out, the epoxy worked well with no added wood and I never had the problem again, Glad you had a good time at the fun fly.

Naswifty, What prop are you spinning, I'm using a 14x4 on my OS 70 and had the same problem, (Wouldn't sit still) I adjusted the Low Idle screw and she almost sounds like its going to stall, but it just keeps on purring, It idles so low, I love that.

skukreja Awesome !!!!! I can not wait to see that baby fly, I hope you get a video of it, I started going over the adjustments I'm going to need to make for the T _ _ _ T Tripe,, man,, its going to be a lot of wing I may have to use the bottom wing as the Middle wing and set a wing lower then that. I'm not sure yet, But at least I started working on different Ideas, I have a few in mind. Good luck and lets see that baby scream.....

Hey,
My T---t build is going good, just about have it done.
I have a question though.
I am going to use a 12.25 x 3.75 prop and was wondering what size spinner fits over it ???

waldo. . . .I tried a handful of different sizes from 11/8 thru 14/6 with all kinds of pitches. it's just the nature of all that torque just sitting there waiting for a chance to "get busy"

Bratpak, any spinner you get will have to be trimmed for the prop to fit in. I have the 2-1/2" flavor that some of the others are also running on the OS .61FX. Make sure no part of the nose cone touches the prop when it is installed. This is especially important on 4 strokers. Good luck and happy flights!

Ke4jjh, There are a few guys on bondsteel that fly electrics and they have permission to fly in a big open field but I have a feeling they would frown on the nitro planes. I work contract aircraft maintenance so I get to live off base in Macedonia. Much gooder that way[sm=thumbup.gif]

Bratpak...
That is an odd sized prop. It is wider than the other standard props so no spinner will fit it. Unless it becomes extremely popular, they are not going to make one that will. Its all about the money. Not enough of these props selling to warrent tooling up to make a spinner that fits. Why they didn't make the center of the prop narrower so it would fit a standard spinner is my question. I tried to make the spinner that came with my T _ _ _ T fit but I would have to remove the prop stops or cut into the alining dowels. So I'm going to go up one size and modify it. I also recommend using a prop balancer to balance the spinner after the mod. Thats a good tool to have anyway. I was suprised at how far off balance some props could be.

BendR...
10-4 on the much gooder! (Glow fuel will give you Dain Bamage and make your grammer bad) Just kiddin, we say more gooder here. You could fly in that field, just tell them its a really cheap and old electric and thats why it so loud and smokes.

Warning: Flying a T _ _ _ T can cause you teeth to get sun burned

LOL,, After 254 pages, We have had to bump it along at times LOL,

We might have an actual T_ _ _ T Novel Here come to think of it,, [sm=idea.gif]

It has action, adventure, Drama, Suspense, comedy, comedy, comedy, animation, horror, Documentary, Musical, Romance, thriller, SCI-FI, Fantasy, Sports, and its fiction, non-fiction, & flight lessons all rolled into one, and so much more,, did I say Comedy... whats not to like.
This may be the only book I have ever completely read and keep waiting for the sequels.[&:]

I had to edit this, as I didn't think of the book Idea until after I posted the first line.

I am getting closer to finishing my T---t and am trying to get the CG to where I want it, 4 1/4". I need to add weight to the front of the plane.
I already have the battery pack on top of the gas tank and things moved as far forward as I can get.
What is the best way to add some more weight ???

Mark. .. ... ....

4 1/4 CG? thats a lot of nose weight, my friend. Just in case you didnt read the other 200 plus pages of the original thread PRIOR to the current 54 pages, you find that most people have found the sweet spot for all types of flying to be around the 4 3/4 to 5 1/4 range.

b4 you get all flustered, try this: start off around the 4 3/4" to 5" for your maiden flight. get it trimmed up to fly flat at 3/4 power, then bring it down and check control surface alignment. It'll let you know just where the sweet spot is. add lead accordingly to get surfaces in correct alignment and she ehould fly PERFECTLY. . . then, if you want to hang it on the prop, you can move weight aft a little, or just do whatever fits your flying style.

My PnP has a Saito FA72, sits a little on the nose heavy side, and has just a slight bit of up elevator to fly level. I'm just a little too lazy to add a bit of lead around the tail wheel area.

just my $.02

I am taking deliver of my new twist 60 next week but have decided to build the 150 also. I have a O.S. BGX converted to gas and would like to know if that is a good combo for the 150.
Thanks

Bratpak, There is no best way to ADD weight, but if you have to Naswifty put it well.
I also fly a 70 4 stroke on mine, and I cut into the bottom right behind the wing mounting blocks and put my battery back there, so I didn't have to add weight, I'd try a balance around 4.75 before adding weight to bring it around 4.25 I think you'll love it.

Downt It has not yet been proven that in the dominion of society, opulence should amalgamate.

I have some great footage of the T_ _ _ T 40 this week, A friend of mine came down from Colorado and I let him fly my bird, and then he took some video of me flying her also, so I'll have to splice a few things together, but I think I have some pretty good shots of her doing some T_ _ _ ting. I will post during this week sometime.

Just wanted to tell you guys I had the BEST time ever in my flying career today at the "secret" flying field... Since some of you might not know it, the local club I'm a member of lost it's flying site and has been in a state of flux while looking to procure a small peice of property to set up on. In the meantime, a couple of "resorceful" members contacted a friend that has over 5000 acres just off the interstate and has let these two cuys pick a few people to join them. we are using a taxi-way for a private airport as our strip. all thats needed is a spoter to keep an eye out for full scale cessnas as well as crop dusters.

So anyway, what made it a really great day was that I took both T...Ts as well as the trainer and flew EVERYTHING at least twice. 3-5mph cross-wind was managable. actually, the trainer was the hardest thing to land.
so here's a shot of me and both planes, returning home in the same condition as when they left the garage this morning. . . lol

I got my Twist last Monday after putting in my SSE on Sunday due to an elevator failure(The clevis came off the contol horn with the safety tubing still on there) I have the 55ax that I mounted a bit further forward than recommended due to reading so many people having to add weight... Because i did this the throttle pushrod that came with it was too short i had a longer one but it seemed to bind up pretty badly so i switched to a flexible pushrod and now it is super smooth...It balanced out at 4.5 inches with the battery right above the wing, so to anyone that may be building one mount the engine a bit far forward to avoid having to add noseweight.

I took it out to brek in the engine and to maiden it today, engine break in went very well the 55 ran perfectly.. for the first flight it took off very well within 10 feet, i am swinging a 13x6 prop, and with the engine on the rich side due to break in period, there was still plenty of power. trim was almost perfect couple of clicks of left and a couple clicks of down and it was straight as an arrow.

Now here is the irritating part, I had planned on 4 or 5 flights today, but about 8 minutes into my first flight I hear some fluttering. so i bring it in, landed very nicley by the way, and the covering was peeled back half way on the right wing about half way across so that ended my flying for today...

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS???? I was impressed with the overall construction except for this and it is extremely irritating that this would happen, now there is a big tear in the covering and i have no extra to patch it with

Also does anyone else have a 55 on theirs and what do you use for a prop???

Johnf610,

I am sorry that your covering came loose. I can't say I have ever had that happen to me, but I do go over the entire airframe with a covering iron as I am putting it togethor.

johnf610 - I've been flying an OS 46 AX since I got the original T...T 40. I picked up an OS 55 last week on my way through Billings MT at Central Hobby. Got it on the stand this morning and ran two tanks through it, switched the engines out after it cooled off (in the same holes). I could only find a Zinger 12x6 to start out with in my stash of props, but I think I'm going to be really happy with the swap out. I have a couple of APC 12x6's and 13x6's coming from Tower, so I'll let you know what I end up with. I didn't do anything to re-balance after the swap, which meant the nose was lighter due to less engine weight and going from the APC to the Zinger. I didn't even try to change the trim, it wasn't enough to even bother with. Now I'll have the power to pull out when I want from the looks of it

I have an OS 91 in the T...T 60, and now I just go back and forth from plane to plane[8D]

Keep'em T..Ting

I started building the Twist 40 this weekend. Based on previous crash damage, I've decided to strengthen the fuselage a bit. Here is some of the extra support that I decided to add. I epoxyed thin ply to the area above the wing and then added triangle stock to both sides of the supporting bulkhead. Behind the canopy is built up with carbon fiber.
