Welcome, Link.
Take it from someone with 2 PnP T-=-T's, and love 'em both. Being up in the mountains, you'll have a blast flying in that wind that trys to keep the dust off highway 58. . . lol

One of my birds has the EVO.46, and thats the one I fly most. Put an APC 12.25x3.75 on it and you'll be almost set. Keep the pushrods on the #3 hole on the conrtol horns and set the throws per the manual. first flight will be really nice and the CG should be OK right out of the box. check it just to play it safe. should be around 4.75 to 5 inches from LE. it's also wise to replace the tail wheel assembly with the one offered by Sullivan so you'll save the rudder should you come down a little hard. On the maiden flight, keep it on low rates and do a few approaches to get the feel of how she handles coming into the wind: she's a floater, for sure. you'll find out that this plane lands easier than your trainer (as long as you keep the speed up: she gets a little squirrily at near stall speeds) and just have a blast. This is one awsome flying plane. it's not an all out 3d'er, but trust us all that you'll fly it till the wood disintigrates. it's just that fun to fly. . . . .
again, welcome to the thread. . .
Jeff

Quick little T____T3D story We have company down from Calgary. We BBQ'd just as a small storm rolled through with pretty good gusts but little rain. As is typical for this area, after a storm like that rolls through in the evening it will usually just calm down into one of those beautiful cool full star nights. OK - Anyhow - We got done eating and had everything cleaned up and it was only about 7:15. Ah heck, I've got to go out and try the new OS 55 with the new 12x6 APC prop for at least one flight (right ). So I had everything loaded and in the car headed to the field by 7:30. As I'm driving out looking off to the West here comes the big brother storm to the one that just went through -- I MEAN REALLY BLACK CLOUDS, rain slowly making the far distant hills disappear. I did the fastest plane setup and pre-flight check in my history, in the air in 10 minutes from the time I backed in and shut the ignition off. Taxi out, wind picking up a little out of the SE, so's I taxi to the NW end to take off. Now it's really getting dark, - ah go for it. Give her the gun and just a picture perfect T____T take off [8D] Well I keep her down on the east end of the field with my back to the storm. Finally the clouds get so dark overhead that I'm starting to loose up and down on the plane..... OK, proven the prop is alright, yep, wind hasn't shifted, down to the NW end to make my approach !! Holy CR@P has it got dark fast. I guess since the storm coming in was so deep and thick, that last bit of sunlight that should have given me time to fly until 8:30 is almost gone. I turn on base and into final and the plane just almost disappears [X(]. Luckily I catch the leading edge's rocking back and forth a little and then it kind of comes down out of the dark masses where I can see it fairly well against the distant hills. Anyhow, make another nice little lite touchdown and decide I've just used all my luck up for the day

Taxi'd in, tore here down and cleaned it off (quickly) and just started getting hit by the first drops of this next storm as I pulled the gate shut pulling out of the field. Anytime flying is better then no time flying [8D]

Down,

The Hirundo is a pretty cool little plane. It has a pretty small tank on it, so i just ran it WOT and a good 60 degree climb rate till it ran out of gas. I then floated it around till I ran out of air and had to kiss the ground. All said and done took about 8 minutes per shot. I remember Jack211 saying he was pulling 20 plus minute flights out of her. I guess it takes some time to develope those skills. I will give it a go again. I would say it was pleasant experience. Has a little sentimental value as well.

Waldo,

Used to smoke a pack to a pack and a half a day for 10 years. Quite 6 years ago and am so glad I did. I can't imagine paying $4 per pack. That would just kill me. I bet I cough maybe once every couple of weeks from say swallowing something wrong. When I was smoking I can remember coughing on a daily basis. I was always clearing my throat and lungs. It is just amazing how healthy you feel. I think back to the coughing and weazing after a late night, shortness of breath, walking around smelling like sh*t all of the time, and all the other B.S. that went along with smoking, and I thank God on a regular basis that I have that Monkey off my back! Good luck to ya brother!

I like your way of thinking. I agree 100%. After 28 days and nights of work I drove 40 miles to fly for 20 minutes before getting dumped on. Gotta get it in when you can.

Ok... Friend of mine dropped off the floats for the float fly this weekend... has anyone else put a set on a twist??? just curious as to how well it works, i obviously will not be doing any spins or lomcevaks, but i hope it will fly well...I am afraid the extra weight of the floats will rip her apart...if anyone has any ideas on what to reinforce or set up let me know

Welcome linkadrip, Good luck and have a blast with this plane.

Adam Thanks for the pep talk lol, well its been since Sunday night and let me tell you I'm thinking about turning my house into an airplane,, Kind of like the big Snoopy doghouse, I definetly have the ambition now. [&:] things are going well...[:-][&:][sm=bananahead.gif][sm=cry_smile.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif][sm=47_47.gif][sm=tongue_smile.gif]

that was a fantastic story Gputt33 Love to hear of that kind of stuff.

They are predicticting a great day for Saturday, so we should have an awesome time, but we are at the point where it just doesn't matter, our spring, summer, fall flying season is so short we are there rain or shine now, and we fly between the down pours.

John, I never tried the floats on a T_ _ _ T before, I'm sure it will handle them just fine....

Well i finally started up the twist and taxied it around my yard this planes engine is very quiet, Amazes me ,can hardly hear it. It started on the first try and runs great Still have to center the Ailerons better this is very hard for me for some reason. I think there centered buy looking at them from the side of the wing. and then looking at them from the front of the plane they look like there pointing up. So i try moving them the other way a little and then it looks like i have the flaperons on.
I think it due to the Ailerons being flat and not tappered with the shape of the wing that casues them to look that way.
This must be an optial Illusion due to the way the Ailerons are built. Anyone have any tip on the best way to tell for sure that there centered ? Seems funny though that i didnt have this issue with my 30 % Extra 330L.
Seemed real easy to ge the ailerons to match up perfect and centered even the tail uses two servos one for each side and i didnt have an issue getting them centered but they are contured to the shape of the wing too. Well i'm not going to maiden my Twist till i'm sure i have everything right thows and CG and everything is centered ect.
Hopefully buy this weekend, really want to get it in the Air and see how it flys, but i'm not going to rush it.

Hey Linkadrip,
An easy way to find the center it to look at the wing tips from the side, place a straight edge from the center of the leading edge on the wingtip to the center of the trailing edge of the wing tip the aileron should line right up to the center points.

Good luck on the maiden

Yesterday's weather was dead calm and 80 degrees F. I had charged a few batteries the night before and it was a simple matter to throw a few planes in the minivan and drive the three minutes to the flying field. When I arrived the field wasn't mowed so I decided that I would use the dirt road as my runway. The T_ _ _ T flew with it's usual grace, but the SeaBee seemed a little "glitchy". I inspected her after the first flight and everything still checked out......even the battery voltage, so I put her up again. Big mistake. I have the SeaBee equipped with a .51 Super Tigre and a Mac's tuned exhaust cause this bird clips man! I really enjoy doing WOT (wide open throttle) fly-bys at eye-level, right? Well, the bird took off without incident and didn't even display the glitchiness of the first flight so I opened her up and commenced the high speed runs. On the final pass, when I hit the elevator to climb up at a steep angle......I got nothing.......NOTHING! I chopped the throttle with no response, and it instantly became apparent that I had a runaway plane traveling at high speed straight towards town! A slight thermal on the ballfield nudged the plane enough so that it exploded when it hit the fenced backdrop of the little league field. It took me over an hour to pick up the pieces of which the biggest was the rudder. The only usuable item that was salvagable was a foam wheel..........every servo, the receiver, the engine, the tuned exhaust, all trash. The engine hit with such force that the head broke off the block and I never did find the pieces for the carb. The mesh of the chain-link is also a little bit tighter where the plane hit as well. I packed it up and when home with the T_ _ _ T still intact..........a very good day.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your SeaBee Downtrodden. At least it didn't head off into town and hit the police chief's new car in the windshield.

WOW [X(][>:] Sweet Story DownT,,, Sorry for the loss and on such a large scale, all Servos and the head off the motor, Holy Moly,,,[X(] That was a moving plane,

I have had similar WOT crashes with no radio contact, and all you could do was watch, I have hit many things with much girth to them also, telephone poles cement and blacktop roads Etc....... its an endless list after 30 some odd years, but never have I lost the head of a motor or lost more then 1 servo because of impact,,, thats hittin pretty dang hard..... We used to fly off a baseball field when I was growing up so I have encountered the chain link backstop fence a few times myself, they can certainly shred a plane in a heartbeat.. the hard part is walking all the way around the fence to gather all the pieces that went through. Again sorry for the plane destruction, but it must have been pretty awe inspiring to watch happen, that[:-] "oh crap" [:-]feeling,,, this isn't going to be good, When all you can do is sit back and watch the show. I hope you at least enjoyed it, when such things happen to me, It might take a few seconds to realize whats happening, but I know I'm about to get my moneys worth of entertainment, there is nothing better then a good balsa explosion in person... [X(]

Glad to hear the T_ _ _ T is still in her glory.

Ok guys.. The long awaited Twist Bipe is complete.. I don't have pics for you but will take some at the maiden tomorrow (assuming I can brave the heat).. She's powered with a Magnum 91 FS.. weighs around 6.5lbs (at most).. and has over 1400sq inches of wing area.. Should be crazy, if it flies.. I have the CG at around 4.5" from the LE of the lower wing..

If he has success with the bipe then I'll get another PnP and make that twin fused plane like the joined P51's (whatever it was called).
that would be sick. . . . . .

DownT, sorry about the loss. That must have been one heck of a sight!

Sachin, can't wait to see some pics of the bipe. Good luck on the maiden!

I was so looking forward to some T - - - Ting this weekend but the weatherman called for t-storms all day today so I slept in instead. Woke up to beatiful sunny skys and calm conditions. Now it's too late to go to the field and I have to drop off the jeep at the body shop after last weeks little fender bendr. That'll teach me to trust a weatherman.

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

Sachin Thats awesome,, Good luck on the maiden, I can't wait to see pics and here about it...

Okay another T_ _ _ T has entered T_ _ _ T Hell today..

She was flying great no signs of trouble and was doing everything I normally do,, I wasn't even pushing it as it was the very 1st flight with her this morning at 8:00, I did 2 snap rolls to bank into a turn and she all of a sudden started falling from the sky, I had full control over spinning and the engine, but I couldn't get any Elevator action so I shut down the motor and watched her plummet to her demise, I guess I can start on that T_ _ _ T Tri-plane sooner then I wanted too.. lol

Then another guy and I were flying, I had the Bi plane and he was with the Balsa Nove anyway I was inverted and he was not, we hit in the sky but no destruction, we both landed pretty quick to see what might have happened, I had 5 Slight slice marks in my top wing and he had a nice slice through the side of his wing tip,, a little packing tape was applied and back to the skys,, What a great day, Sunny, between 70 - 80 degrees, 4 - 5 mph winds,, just beautiful.... Waldo's a happy boy, well off to a gig,, later kids,, good luck on the maidens and happy flyin all.

I want to see pics of that Biplane!

We got home from LV today and I began the process of breaking the motor for my new T\/\/!$T. I know everyone likes to overpower these planes but I've never been disapointed with the .46 I had in my last one. I may eventually go with a 4 stroke but I had this on the shelf so its mounted now. I ran a tank of fuel through and it seemed to idle and transition well after a few needle adjustments. If all goes well I'll maiden it tomorrow.

As you all know, the T\/\/!$T is repairable but after a few major overhauls, the damage is too much. My recent crash was the final blow to the fuselage. The tail is virtually unharmed and the wing is repairable, everything else is toothpics. Has anyone put one back together in any other fashion other the above mentioned Biplane? What would you think of a high or mid wing Twist? I can't seem to throw this plane away after repairing it 5x previously. I'm leaning toward a high wing configuration. Anyone tried this?
