Yeah Waldo I knew what you were saying. I am really wondering if she's not just alittle nose heavy. My clumsy fingers are really not quite that accurate.
well it's 3:30 and I may have to sneak out for a flight. I just hate loading up even though my airstrip is only 400 ft away. I'm trying to talk the little wife into a trailer for my riding mower and just leave every thing loaded up. Of course what I really need is a hangar right there at the airstrip but some how I don't think she will go for that as long as we are living in a mobile home and her house isn't built yet

Wow... I was already worried about the wing bolt but now you make me really nervous.
I can't think of a situation where you'd actually want that bolt to shear. I don't think it would help even if it did shear.
What are they; 1/4-28?

Cool. That was my next guess.
I have to ask because I'm too lazy to look through 1000 pages of posts... Where is everybody mounting the battery nowadays? I'm planning on putting the rx up front behind the fuel tank somewhere, but I'm having trouble placing the battery.
I heard about making a place behind the wing, but I can't figure out how far back.
Battery is a THP 1320 2s, with Castle BEC regulator, and will have Saito .82. I know it'll vary a bit depending on the weight of the engine, but it's bound to be pretty close.

Here is a pic of the hatch I made for my t---t. I have an os 61 on her I now wish I had made the hatch just a little farther back because she is still nose heavy.
I plan on making a cg stand for her tomorrow an get her balanced correctly.
I tried hovering her today and was having lots of problems with her.
I was able to fly her around on high rates today it's just going to take alittle time getting use to her.
Boy I gotta love that os it is just so smooth

That's a pretty slick hatch... However, I would like to try and make the battery more accessible because I'm very anal about balancing (balancing the lipo voltage, not the plane)... lol.
I'll probably try it up front like normal at first then if she needs to be more tail heavy, I'll go from there.
Can I bug you for a photo without the hatch on? I need to do something like that on my Ultra Stick. It's still a NiMH plane and I've got a bit of lead on the tail that I'd very much like to get rid of.

I'll try an get some pics laters. have you already bought your batt, if not you should consider the a123 batt or the lipo mag with the mag you don't have remove it from the plane or balance it.
I am sure if you don't put your batt back there you are going to need some weight in the back with the satio 82

CPreinfalk,, First off,, congrats on the maiden
sorry to hear of the mishap, its never a good thing when the wing leaves the plane,, I have to say i have heard a few stories and seen a video of that happening But I have never experienced a problem with the nylon wing bolt new out of the box, I had my wing leave only once and that was because of countless rebuilds and how loose the wing was in ther saddle,, I hope they make good on the plane for you,, that stuff just shouldn't happen ever.
T_ _ _ Ted the Laser is coming out great !!!! I love the look of the Laser and the image reflecting in the door as it looks like 2 lasers ready for battle..
And your dog must be huge if he can eat or drink from that bowl on the counter

Kerwin Tell your wife your building a shed to store some stuff in to give HER more room in the mobile home while the house is being built, Just make it a Biiiiiig shed

Man, I know those A123 cells are killer but I'd be looking at a 140g receiver pack instead of a ~50g receiver pack. Since I'm going for lightweight, that's going to be out of the question unless it needs extra weight.
I'm going to avoid mounting the rx or battery until I get an engine in there. I want to be able to see where she wants to balance before I go off mounting things in places they shouldn't be.
Thanks for the input! I have an idea in my head as to how I could do the hatch, but I'd still like to see how yours is done. It's obviously working quite well.
Thanks again,
-Eric

Wouldn't you know it my camera batt is down but what I did was 1st was I put in a piece of balsa stick 1/4 with a piece of light ply over it and glued it to the weak area on both sides the fuse that always seem to crack. Then I glued a piece of light ply on them. I wrapped my batt in foam and zip tied it the the plywood floor that i made.
When I cut the covering out for the hatch I used the covering for a template for my light ply hatch cover. I also glued some light ply pieces on the inside bottom fuse for the hatch cover to rest on and screw to.

OK here the pic. That a good ideal to wait till you have the engine mounted before installing the batt and also waldo's set up is more than likely better for you as you will be removing you batt for charging.
Waldo I told the little wife what you said and she just raised 1 eyebrow[
] lol. is your us 1000 up an flying because I was thinking with 1500 plus square inches of wing on the tripe wouldn't the big tigre be more fitting IE give her that 3d power. NOw if any 1 out in t---t land want to donate an os 160 fx to the waldo tripe I would bet he would not object that way he could take off with some 1 just holding the plane with the nose pointed up an just let go
Of course I know the 61 will fly her but the 160 would turn her into a space shuttle. maybe waldo could get some work from nasa lol

Hey Waldo you are pretty observant to notice the size of my dogs dish. Yes she is about 160 right now and I think she is just about full grown now. Newfoundlands are great dogs, I just made the fiance get rid of the other ankle biter he was going potty alll over my brand new house and he is 2 but with the female he had a problem and he was just plain annoying. Oh well watchin the news now going out to fly Sunday maybe if we have ok weather and I meen OK will do for me at this point.

Kerwin,,, I'm glad all she did was raise an eyebrow, your lucky she didn't raise you off the floor with a left hook or something LOL,,, my set up on the trap door protrudes off the bottom, it is a quick in and out hatch though, I like your set up where it fits nicely in the lightning hole. and my Us 1000 is up and running and I believe the 2300 would tear the wings right off the Twipe, I'm almost thinking about putting an OS .20 on her just to make sure she flys once, LOL,,
I ordered 1 of the OS .61's I needed to purchase Yesterday,,,

also bought the monocote for the Twipe, we should have pics by the end of the weekend of the completed wrapped bird, the engine will be swapped over next week sometime.
T_ _ _ Ted sweet job on that Laser, I may have to build me one of those, it looks sharp, and nice hanger I might add, you have been a busy boy,,, and its going to be some feat to build a plane to fly your 160 lb puppy around,, I have a chihuahua, I think he can fit in the T_ _ _ T 40

Thanks Waldo just a few more hours of covering and she will be ready for her life support. Yea I need a bigger plane for the dog now. 99 inch wing still a little small. I have been doing so good this winter building, I really enjoy the build but not like I love to fly them. Hows the bipe coming? I am gonna get the laser done this weekend it looks like the weather is gonna stink Sunday so I will be here inside again or shall I say still!

Yeah Waldo your right I am lucky she didn't give me a left hook or somthing lol
If your little dog is going for a ride in the T---T he'll need a flyers cap an scarf
Waldo are you running ailerons on all three wings.
T---Ted you have been busy looks like you'll have plenty of planes for the season ahead
Right now I only have 3 flying the T---T, the se, and the gws tigermoth.
I broke the wings on the christen eagle the other day doing loops to close to the ground, so I need to get busy and get some planes up an flying

Well I'm still around. I haven't been flying much, But I got a summer toy that I have been rebuilding. Trying to figure a way to put a landing deck on it [X(]. Yall have been busy this winter with your planes. They all look Great. I still have the same ones ( which I guess is a good thing ).

Kerwin: Thanks for the picture. It looks like you just ran wood screws straight into the spruce rather than using nuts... I might have to do that same thing. If I mount the battery low enough, I can get my balancer in there pretty easy.
It turned out that I had a little more cash than I thought, so I went ahead and picked up the Saito last night. I might not get to install it this weekend though...
Too much homework. LOL
