It should be a good plane and last a long time
Suggestion:-

Check the aileron servo mounts. They can be weak.

I have a couple of questions for those who have already installed the OS .91FX: 1) Did the engine fit on the supplied motor mount? 2) Does the cowl come with the large opening on the right side of the plane for the stock muffler or is it completely closed? Thanks

Another one I just remembered: What lenght servo extensions for the ailerons have you used or would you recommend? Thanks again.

Hi

Mine had completely closed cowl (except front hole).
I bought it 3 months ago from www.a1-modellbau.de

I believe the new run of xtras from graupner now have an enclosed cowl(no precut muff. hole) which I would have preferred. And no special servo arms are recommended, I used original 'adjustable' arms fully extended. The original engine mount works perfect for the .91fx. But to clear the landing gear your going to want to get the muffler extension (tower hobbies part# LXARP9 @$16.99),This will give you the clearance needed and looks good too!
Good luck and happy flying!!

Yes, the new xtras come with cowl that doesn`t have precut holes.

Went fly yesterday, first 5 were just perfect. Then on last flight the right wheel come loose with axle. I continued flying and enjoing the last minutes because i knew that landing will be rough and i may not be able to fly several days because of repairing.
Lined up above a grass field and let the plane run out of speed. The noise, when it hit the gorund really cut to my ears. I was prepaired for the worst, but only thing that broke was the landing gear plate. Damn, i think that was a luck.

[But there was one thing i can`t explain. I was turning back into wind, had strong right aileron when the plane made quick turn to left and then continued to right. I blame wind but i really don`t know what it was.

Probably got explanation for weird behavior. I use an airfield ment for big planes, and the place have a few radar buildings.
All the strange moves happen close to the radar, exactly in the same spot. Yesterday the rudder suddenly snapped right and left, fortunately went good. But friends trainer got into spin and crashed in same place.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Sounds like you will be able to fix it , though. You better make sure it is in fact the nearby radar installation that is causing the interference and not your plane itself. Check for any metal to metal contact on your horns, clevises, throttle arm, etc.

300sjack, Thanks for the info. I am planning on using a Magnum .91XLS with a Bisson Pitts muffler. I should have been clearer on my question about the extensions: What I really wanted to find out about was the aileron extension cords and their length.

Hi guys',
Anyone know of a nice white curved landing gear (Proper Extra style ) I can get to fit this model without too much mods?

Carbon fibre maybe (a bit pricey ) or fibre glass ?

Cheers,
Rob

Default Extra 300 cowling

I am looking for someone who has this kit also, and would like to trade cowlings. I have a earlier version and it has the factory cutouts for the cylinder and muffler. I am looking to trade/buy one of the newer ones that have no cutouts. Except for the front air holes.
I also have 2 extra tail brace mod kits for free if someone needs one for this aircraft.
I will pay shipping for both parties for the cowling swap.

Thanks Greg

Mrqs,

The price for it in Germany comes out to about $156 with today's exchange rates. That is a very good price considering Hobby-Lobby in the US sells it for $179.

Hi Crow,

The instructions do mention using a filter in the aileron extension leads. The attached photo shows one sort of filter, which has the lead passing through it a couple of times. I also use these on my electric models and they work very well.

Hope this is useful,

Sarah

guys I was looking at the plane myself for a fun flyer but it seems the control surfaces are a bit too small for my taste but what i did find is the price is considerably lower than what i thought.

http://www.hobby-lobby.com/rcubanner2.htm

not a bad price for what appears to be a decent flying plane

Default new version cowl

Anybody care to swap a earlier precut cowl out for a newer version uncut cowl.
I will pay postage both ways and add ten dollars to the pot.
Let me know !
Thanks Greg

Wow! I paid $179 for mine less than 2 weeks ago. I wonder if they would refund the difference.

Hey Man!

Did you get "bit" by the "Master-Reshuffle"?

I am not sure what kind of a shuffle that was but I am definitely "bit". I sent an e-mail to sales at Hobby-Lobby making them aware of the situation and asked if the $46 difference could be refunded. The answer I got was an unfortunate "no" but "we will give you $40 off on your next order".

Just noticed the new price myself. Is this plane 3D capable? I have several .60 engines, an ASP .90, and an ASP 1.08. Will the 1.08 fit? Too heavy?

The asp 90 would prob. be your best bet, But if the 1.08 has the same Mounting dimensions then you could go with it too!

Default sale price?

I must be getting old but I really thought I saw this plane for sale for 139.00 just the other day.
It was from Hobby Lobby.
Anybody else see it?
I would like to get another at that price

You saw it right it was at 133 and I was going to get one next week as a backup, but now thier price is back to 179- I believe $10 higher than it used to be, Oh well so much for a backup at such a great deal!! It was prob. a missprint cause I did'nt see any advertising on it at that price, Although they were honering the price because sdwys got them to give him $40 off his next order!!

Default RE: Graupner Extra 300

Guy's,
Lately we've been having some really nice days with little wind.
I'm finding it very difficult to slow this bird down to land. I have often run off the end of strip despite touching down 1ft from the start (and it's a pretty big grass strip).
I read it's coz I run it a good bit nose heavy.
Could this be true!
Would a different prop help slow it down on idle (drag etc).
I am running an ASP75 with 13x6 prop.

Cheers
