Default Nitroplanes Pitts Special 40

I just wanted to report on my Pitts Special. I flew it for the first time today. It took off with very little rudder correction and the only trim I had to do was a coulple of clicks down on the elevator. It handeled like a dream. I have a Supertiger 40 in it and has plenty of power no problem there. The mods I made to it was to put 4/40 blind mounting nuts in the wing tabs for easier assembly. I will say that you should run some CA down along the wing tabs for extra strength. The plane flys super good no bad habits and lands like a dream. The only thing that I thought needs improving is the landing gear it seems to bend on a hard landing. Just land nice and easy and you won't have any trouble. I hope this information helps. In my opinion it's a winner flys geat lands nice and smooth looks great.
Happy flying, Tailspincharley

Thanks for the info. I have yet to maiden mine. Plane is a little small for my 40 size skis. I have a saito 65 in mine and i am sure I will have unlimited vertical. I replaced the kit gear and installed a slightly wider set, stock ones seemed a little narrow for my tastes. One guy had the struts break, but mine seem strong as ever needed. Maybe a cartwheel would weaken them. When test running the engine I noticed the fuel tank bung plastic retainer split, I am sure I didn't over tighten it, but check yours, maybe poor material.

Did you do anything about the canted struts?

How did you mount your engines?

Thanks.

I didn't do anything about the struts besides running some medium ca around the attachment points. I have had the plane assembled for about 2 months now and just pulled the wing off to check something and there wasn't much of a pull on the struts, they seemed to have taken shape to the bend somewhat. I am going to fly it like this, if I botch a landing I will check them over carefully. I mounted the saito horizontal, why hide a nice looking engine like that? Plus I have had nothing but problems with my superchipmunk with an inverted install, always having to close off the high speed needle when filling the tank.

Looking for updated thoughts on this plane. I am thinking about picking one up. Would an OS 40 be enoupg power for it? Thanks.

An OS .40 FX or the like may be enough depending upon how you load the plane down with other hardware... e.g. bigger battery packs, etc.
