Does anyone have any first hand experience at building and flying a Seagull Super Star? All comments and contributions will be most welcome.

Do a search here, and you will find a ton of info on this fantastic plane. Keep it light and it's a gem. Not much of a 3D machine, but does Imac beautifully. Keep the elevator throws in the recommended range for the first few flights. It flies best on a 1.20 to a 1.60 size 2 stroke or a 1.50 to 1.80 4 stroke. I don't recommend using the stock 3mm pushrods. Build yourself some nice 4-40 rods.

Maidened my SS yesterday, everything went well, trimming for straight and level flight will take a few days, the Cof G is well forward and will slowly be moved back as trimming proggresses, initial flights where a 18x8 on the OS1.60 running rich, today will see a 18x6 up front to improve the up line. The purpose for the SS is to practice IMAC patterns and requires a very well trimed airframe, I hope the SS will fit the bill.

Sherman, it will! It took me about 4 weekends to get mine set up to where I feel it's neutral now. I have a ton of right thrust and some up thrust in the motor mount. I found this plane to fly best on the APC 17x4W on the Webra 1.20. Allows a very smoooooooth pull through all the power range, unlimited vertical about 3/4 throttle and acts like an air brake on the down lines. The more I fly this plane, the more I am really enjoying it. I started out with almost 4 ounces of lead under the tank for balance, now almost all of that is gone except 1/2 ounce. She is snappy on the elvator inputs, but, that is what makes this thing such a dream to fly sequence with! I have 3 rates set in, Landing rates, set at recommended lows, Imac rates, which are mostly just above rec. highs, and 3D rates which is max deflection all surfaces. I have found that this plane demands a high torque rudder servo, mainly because of the side area. I am flying it with JR 821's all the way around, except I had a Hitec 545 on the rudder. It would not hold the rudder in KE flight. Switched it out for an 821, and all is good now, she'll KE loop on IMAC rates
Wow, that got long winded!

The SS flew again yesterday with the 18x6 prop, at wide open throttle the tips are barking pretty bad. On the up vertical the plane pulls to the canopy, which is odd, since the plane is still nose heavy, that is after straight and level trim is set. Also , on hard elevator pull to vertical the plane rolls to the right, I may have too much expo on the elevator or I may have to move the motor mount around to cure it. A big surprise is it would not do a nice clean snap, I need to play with more elevator and rudder inputs. The plane flys well but is a long way from IMAC standards, if it was easy everyone would be doing it. Ths locals at the field think it is a good flyer. mtwister, what kind of vertical up snaps are you getting? Rob

I am flying the SS, practising IMAC sequences while I get my 33%er ready, I lost my 33% extra 2 weeks ago, caused by a brain dead pilot (ME)!!! Horse shows keep putting my RC flying on the back burner. Rob

I will be going back to the 20x6 prop to kill the prop noise, does any one have experience with the Apc in this application, I have been using Master Classics, 18x6 and back to the 20x6.

I cannot get a clean snap out of it period. I can't get it to blender either, it falls out to the right all the time, just as you say yours does. I have the cg back pretty far, and when inverted it pulls to the canopy pretty hard. Not typical. I still have some trimming to do obviously

Yup, I know, which is why I said it was weird. This plane has some trimming issues I haven't experienced before.

Inverted with cg in the rear should pull to the gear, and be a real bear to land.

Well , I will not be posting on the SS any more, I augered mine big time, not much left. I was making a low inverted pass, engine started to run out of gas, I pushed hard down to climb for altitude, she rolled to the right and splat, end of story, that right roll on hard elevator finally got me.
