The battery checks fine on the charger. Plenty of power. I got a new electronic ignition unit from Hangar-9 and got it installed last night. So I'll be trying it ou in a couple of days. Busy time of year and other things are ahead of flying. Thanks for the reply.

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???
WELL,
I WAS going to install a Saito 125 in mine!! My Dad has the 1/4 sacle Super Cub (very similar in size and weight) with a 125. It was great on wheels, but now on floats is clearly underpowered. So, some decissions need to be made. I can upgrade the 125 to a 150 or 180, but i'm also looking into the Evolution 26. Lighter and more compact than the G20, but probably TOO much power. What to do?? decissions decissions

I have the EVO 26GT in my H9 25% cub. It is the PERFECT engine for this plane. It is not anywhere close to being overpowered. I get some really nice "CUB-speeds" at bout 1/4 throttle. Open her up to full and you have plenty of power for a vertical line to a gentle wing-over or a loop.

Vic finally finished his Saito FG36 (over)powered Cub with some serious mods... clipped wing and crazy flaps. Good times shooting short field approaches in the local soccer field/track. Think I'll get me a pair of 6" Dubro's for those rough field days.

Joe,
Haven't even started on the Cub yet. Won't be home for quite a while, racing season going full swing and no time to get home, so probably will have to wait until late Sept or Oct before I get home. Hopefully won't take long to get together and head for the pond in Anaheim. Have a new TopFlite Staggerwing with a Evo 35 gasser all done and STILL haven't flown her yet either. Gotta find another job!!!!!

Hercibird,
Thats intresting news. Could you load us up some pictures of the install ??. I'd love to see how it looks and fits in the cowl. Does it fit completely inside, or is there some exposure??.. Also, what muffler did you go with??..

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???
Update on engine sputtering problems. While changing out the electronic ignition unit, I was checking the clunk in the fuel tank and saw more in the tank than the clunk. I loosened the screw on the stopper and pulled it out to find that there was no back plate on the stopper. What I saw in the bottom of the tank was five pieces of the back plate that had been overtightened during the original build. I contacted Hangar-9 on Friday and told them about what I had found and wondered if that could be my problem. Was put on hold for a couple of minutes then the tech from Hangar-9 said a new tank would be sent. He did not say anything about whether that could be the problem or not. If the weather cooperates I'll be trying the new EI unit and a cleaned out fuel tank tomorrow evening.
Thanks

I went with EVO pitts style muffler. Go to post #187 on this thread (pg. 8) for a pic of my EVO 26. I did a Super Cub mod on my cub, the engine sticks out of the bottom a little. Still looks great though.

The FG36 is sweet, I have one in a 25% Decathlon, perfect match.
STILL waiting for my own 25% H9 Cub kit to show up (2 months+ and counting)....the floats are getting dusty...

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???
Hercibird,
Am i right in saying that the stock cowl is deeper through the bottom section, from the crank center down than the cowl you used?? So, if the Evo 26 were used with the stock cowl, would it therefor fit in with less sticking out the bottom as yours does?? trying to get an idea of what it would look like.
I looked over your pics from post 187, and she looks great, congrats[sm=thumbup.gif] I personally don't like engines sticking out, and large cowl cutouts. Thats why i was intrested in the Saito 125 150 180, as they provide a completely inclosed instalation, but the tradeoff there is the oily mess, leading me to be intrested in a gas install..

Bill - I am planning to do an electric version of the Cub ARF with the recommended Eflite motor, etc. I see that there is no info in the manual showing motor mounting or battery placement. Has this been done before? Do you have any details? Thanks, Louie

Fred, You can buy a Dave Patrick Super Cub cowl from fiberglass spec. I have the DP Super Cub with a OS 1.60 twin and it fits in the cowl with no problems at all. I also have the H9 J-3 and it looks like the DP cowl could be fitted to the J-3 with a little modification.

I am just wondering if you modify the cub to a super cub why not buy a super cub? I am not trying to make anyone mad I am just still a little new to it and do not understand the difference..I like the look of the cub better than the super cub

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???
It's just a matter of preference.....nobody makes a 1/4 scale PA-18 anymore (currently). Hangar 9 had one a few years back that was pretty sturdy and then the Dave Patrick Super Cub came out and flew off the shelves and he never had them in stock after the first few batches. I just modified the J-3 to my desires due to non availability of the PA-18 from anywhere else. Looks like Cermark is taking over the DP line and I personally talked with a company rep and she said 4-6 months. If they are still the same as the original offering they will fly off the shelves due to high demand. Just my 2 cents worth.....
