Thanks Fred! Using a rx per float certainly keeps the wiring down to a minimum. It's cool, but expensive. [:@] I'll bet that the batteries, one per float, gave you enough weight to attain the proper CG w/out additional weight...

Yep, you're right. I am using a 1350 MaH LiFePO4 2 cell pack with a 5.2 volt voltage regulator in each float. CG came out right on the button with no additional weight.

I am buying the ARF version, and plan to install a XYZ 26cc gas engine. Do you guys know if I have to use spacers when installing this engine?

I really like the way it flies, but I do not like the apparent slop that the landing gear is getting in the brackets. The blts appear to be egging out the brackets.[X(]

Use some #4 washers to take up the extra slop.

I am talking about the holes being egged out, not side to side play. The steel must be of very poor quality. I have had both robart and wallace gear, and neither one wore this fast.

I'm with you now. I sure hope they don't completly break the metal in the brackets. [&o] I guess I will find out shortly if mine is going to have this problem.

A question for the experts - I have just about finished my Cub and would like to know how you deal with the struts when transporting the wings to the field. I will probably use a wing tote of some sort. Do you fold the struts down? Put protective foam around them to keep them from damaging the wing or servo linkage? Any comments or pix appreciated. Louie

HI FRED , LIKE YOUR IDEA ON THE RETRACTABLE WATER RUDDER , I AM NOT SHURE I LIKE THE MULTIPLE RX AND BATT. INSTALL . I WILL TRY TO DO SO WITH MY JR 10X , AND I AM RUNNING 9 CH SPECTRUM RX.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH YOU FLOATS ? MINE GET WATER IN IF I LEAVE THAM IN MY POOL FOR OVER NIGHT .AND I DID EVERY THING POSIBLE TO SEAL THE FLOATS.I HAVE THE FIRST GENERATION OF HANGAR 9 FLOATS , AND MAYBE
THEY ARE DEFECTIVE. OTHER THAN THAT THEY PERFORM VERY WELL ON MY 1/4 SCALE L-4 CUB BALSA USA WITH SAITO GAS ENGIN.LOOK ON MEMBER FHOTO GALLERY L - 4 , MY CUB IS THE FIRST 2 PICS. WITH NO FLOATS YET .
ANY HOW THE MODE YOU DID IS 1/2 OF THE DEAL . LOOK AT WWW.CLAMARFLOATS.COM, LOOK THROUGH OUT THE ALL SITE INCLUDE MAINTANENCE ETC, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK , I THINK ROBART 40 LB TAIL RETRACT CAN BE FIT TO
THE FLOATS, I DONT KNOW YET , BUT I THINK IT CAN BE THE ALLTIMATE FLOAT ASSEMBLY . I WOULD LOVE TO TAKE OFF AND LAND MY CUB WITH FLOATS AT THE REGULAR FLYING FILD, ITS A CHALANGE.

Well, I managed to snag one of these a week or so ago for $50 - going to run my Zenoah G26 (magneto) in her. Just about have the engine mount done - had to fabricate a 1-1/2" block from some red oak. Servos for the wing came in the mail today, most of the rest of the misc stuff came last week. Spent some time Friday night cuting the cowl for the G26 carb and muffler - almost done.

Louie,

I use a piece of 3/4" thick foam to keep the bolts from poking through the wing and then I use a furniture blanket to wrap the wings and make sure that both of the bottoms of the wing face outward from eachother when wrapped together so nothing is trying to poke through to the other wing. This seems to work well but I really wish I had some custom wing bags available for this bird from WingTote or someone else.

Good luck,

Fly

Fly - here is the best deal that I have seen on wing totes, I have some. These are fine quality and the lowest cost. I think I saw a comment about using foam pipe insulation over the struts. Louie

Just got a piper cub, have a OS 200 fs for it.
Do u think 20x8 prop will be ok?
I will mount the engine side ways.
How much nose weight does this plane require, thinking of using a 4oz spinner hub.

Hi Isaac,
I have the same problem with water getting in my floats. When it happened, I stood the floats on their tips watched for water coming out. I found a few places that it was draining from and sealed them with CA. Unfortunately I haven't been able to put them in the water since to check them out.
The info on the Clamarfloats site is interesting. I say go for the retract on your floats. Let us know how it works out. This is what the hobby is all about. If you do go for the retracts take photos of your progress and post them.
Good luck
Fred

F.G. - I am just finishing the H9 Cub as an electric version. Almost ready for maiden flight. I am using the recommended setup with BL-110, castle HV-85 and 8S5000 LiPO. Before starting, I spoke with Bill Brundle, the H9 Cub designer, about the electric setup, which was not well documented in the manual. He was helpful and sent some info. The Cub was the last H9 model design not fully set up for both types of power, all newer H9 ARFs apparently now have this option. Since then there has been a great post by another builder on this conversion. I am very happy with the ARF kit, a few minor issues that I can describe if you do this.

Good luck, Louie

Hey Guys
I have a right hand wing panel that my Weenier Dog found after chewing into the box. The wing tip has damage,Minor, some covering would do the job. But the aileron was eaten. I would be more than happy to send it to someone that could use it for a replacement. I would hate to just throw it away. if someone could use it let me know and I'll send it to you.

Wow, First time I have ever seen that. [X(] A little new balsa and some ultracoat and it would be perfect.

No, this has happened before, not the first time but the third. Killer attack trained weenier dogs. H9 P-51 150 sized, chewed the tail off, NICE. The wife's dogs if you know what I mean.

The wing has never flown, it will need the minor repair on the tip and a new aileron built. No charge just let me know were to send it.

My Cub is new this Summer. I have the older H9 Cessna 182 and I think that has a larger diameter tube. Louie
