i flew it yesterday and tried 30%.it will hover at about 7/8 throt, it doesn't leave much exrta power to correct when it falls off. i was using a 18/6 ma wood prop.has anyone tried a better combination?

I had an APC 18-6W prop on my Saito 1.80 powered G-202 and the performance was similar to what you described. Using 30% nitro fuel, it would just barely hang on the prop at about 3/4 to 7/8 throttle with little reserve for recovery. I don't think you can get unlimited vertical out of that combination. Good flying airplane until you attempt some of the more power demanding 3D type stuff.

springcreek, thanks i needed someone else to verify that maybe this motor just doesnt have the juice for this plane. i was wondering if maybe my motor needed a ring job,but it sounds like u are getting the same performance. its to bad cus i really like the plane.what rpm are u getting with the combination u desrcibed?

Mine weighs 12.5 lbs w/ a OS 160 and Bisson muffler. Kruges, try putting your plane on a diet. Go w/ a smaller NIMH pack - 1000 mah will do if you recharge after 4 flights. Loose the wheel pants, if you're using them and save about 3 ozs. Remove the pilot for another 3 or 4 ounces savings.
If you can afford it, look at getting a composite landing gear. By shaving a pound off the plane, performance will improve noticebly.

Luvbibes, i am not exactly sure on my weight. i am using a old rusty fish scale that i am sure is not accurate, but if it is telling more than the weight it is better for the fish stories. i havent added anything extra to the plane. 605's on the elev a rudd. 225 on the throt and jr 537's in the wing. we are on bad grass so the pants have never been on. about the only thng i can do to take weight away is change the pack and take off the 4'' alum vortec spinner. will your plane with the 160 pull out of a hover quickly? i had never owned a 4stroke before, and i know i might of broke it in a little on the lean side. i am just wondering if others using the 180 have the same performance as me. maybe it might not be a bad idea to put a ring in it. also if chanbing the gear to composite will take off that much weight i would definately be interested. where would i find it for this plane. thanx bibes.

Thanks for the weight. Just fitted mine with a ZDZ 50. came in at 6 kg. Had the first flight today, if you could call it a fly, motor was miles to rich and sorta staggered around the sky for about 2 minutes. Didn't fly again due to a migraine but it felt good, not heavy at all, cann't wait for next weekend.
