Default Tiger Trainer 40 rudder issues

anybody out there got a tiger trainer 40? i've picked up a used one and the control rods from the rudder to the servo tray was already installed, but the servo tray wasn't. The control rod is a peice of dowel with two wire ends. I put the servos and tray in, and now the control rod dowel for the rudder is scraping against one of the wood frames very close to the exit point for the control rod. it's almost impossible to move the control rod if i try to attach it to the servo.

anyone dealt with this?

Thanks
Rob

what you need to look at is ; your fuselage rear section has 2 exit slots 1 for rudder and 1 for elevator and you have 2 servos up front for these. lets say the elevator servo is on the right hand side as so the elevator exit to linkage, if you have problems of some contact you can move the elevator servo to the rudder servo side and do the same for the other , this will like a criss cross but just make sure you have easy movements to both servos / rods, it doesn,t matter if the dowels slightly touch each other but make sure the steel rods keep clear of each other [ interference ] just take your time and you will get it right.

I put my brothers together some years ago and I think some 1 may have put the rudder and elev control horns on the wrong side of the fuse you may have to switch them around.
If push comes to shove you can always install gold'n rod The turtle deck comes off pretty easy.

I always replace the wood type pushrods with the Sullivan Gold-N-Rods on .40-.50 sized models. There pretty cheap at around $5 and you get two 36" flexable pushrod sets which will do your rudder and elivator and a little left over for the throttle. You can get a piece of thin plywood while your getting the pushrods to make a servo tray, I still have mine from my old TT 40 trainer in the scrap heap. Cut out your servo openings Two length wise (side by side) facing the back of the plane, one for the rudder and the other for the elivator and one sideways to the front of the plane for the throttle servo. Be sure to glue the red housing for the pushrods close to where the servos are and where it exits from the back of the plane I used a square piece of plywood and drilled two holes in it then ran the two rod housings through it and glued them. That way the push rod running through it won't cause your controll serfaces to have play. You can also run one for the throttle but on most planes I just use a thick wire from the servo to the throttle.

Goldenrod it is!!! if I have to pull the rods out to see if they are reversed, i might as well put in something 'better'. The servos were already mounted in the tray that came with the radio, so i just expanded the opening in the plywood servo tray to allow for the plastic tray to fit. I'll be able to use the rod recovered from the originals to attach to the ailerons, since i've discovered that those short rods are missing. I've already got to go to the LHS for some z-bend pliers and other miscellaney for making all of the control rod connections - and fuel - and new tires, since these are the foam types and they sat too long and have 'flat spots' on them...

I belong to Prop Masters in Naperville, IL. i haven't been to a club meeting since I got the this plane, but i'm wanting to have most of it done before i bring it in for show 'n' tell... they're going to get all of my engine questions, since i prefer electric and already have a 'use and abuse' relationship with my weed-wacker and lawn mower. it wasn't my plan to get into gas/nitro engines at all, but you go with what's attached until you can afford to swap the whole thing to an electric drivetrain....

Thanks!!!!

i found out why the rudder control rod was rubbing. the rod attached to the wood dowel was on opposite sides of the dowel, forcing it into the frame near the exit from the fuse... on to the next issue.... the rudder servo also controls the steering of the front wheel. the bracket is so tight that the wheel doesn't turn freely. what's the fix?

Thanks
Rob

Are you talking about where the nose gear goes up into motor mount.
Try removing the nose gear linkage and check it if it is still tight then try lubing it. Also I would use goldn'rod there also it's nice to be able to have that gear give alittle and save on your servo gear.
