Default Ho hum... Any 60 size planes out there to fill my need?

Folks, I want to get a 60 size sport plane. I am a very accomplished flyer and I am just stumped. The market at this time offers so little in this size plane. I was going to build a Bridi Utter Chaos but just don't have the time to build and I want to get back in the air and have some fun. Havn't flown in a year

Here's what I want to do.

Basic old school pattern flying
solid knife edge ability
Good aerobatic ability but doesn't need to be a hover plane.
The wing airfoil needs to be thin enough to allow for some good speed.

I have an OS75AX that will be used for power

I don't like stick style planes and I really don't want anything that is Scale. I have looked at Horizion, Tower and some other manufactures and just am not finding anything that I like. The Showtime and Venus 2 are planes I am looking at for a YS110 that I have so those are off the list. If I could find the Bridi planes already built I would buy it and be happy

So help a me find a plane, give me some ideas for a 60 size plane.

I know this is the ARF forum, but if you don't mind building, get an Ultra Sport 60.

It is everything you described and MORE and your 75AX will be perfect for it.

Take a look at this thread to see how much people enjoy them:

Ken Bryant,
Maybe a profile would be in your bag. OMP Fusion is a nice flying plane that isn't just a "3D Special". It will fly pattern pretty good. I believe that the 75 would fly it nicely.
I don't really recommend profiles often...but this just might be what you're looking for. I have one with the mighty 110 on it and if flys pretty good.
Thanks
Barry

Check out the Black Horse Matrix. It is a semi scale plane but flies very much like the Kaos or similar planes with its symmetrical tapered wing. I have an ASP 61 in mine and it is just enough power. With the 75, it would be pretty ballistic, I would bet. The plane slows down for a beautiful landing, and seems to be fairly strong.

Look at Airborne Models. http://www.airborne-models.com They distribute World Models products. They have several pattern planes that call for a 91 four stroke. Your 75AX probably has more power than a 91 four stroke; and similar weight.

One is the Groovy 90 3A that sells for about $260

I have the Excelleron 50 on an OS 70 Surpass, so maybe the Excelleron 90 on your 75AX would work. Great flying plane and does the things you describe that you want. Slows down to a walk to land. Jon

Thanks to all that have replied.

Mini, As I said I don't have the time at this point to build a plane Just want to get back into the air

I already have a MoJo already and really don't want another profile plane. But thanks

Unfortunatly the Excelleron planes have all been discontinued

Had a bad experence with a Groovy 50, I would have a tough time buying another World Modles product. But please keep the suggestions flowing. These are great!

Also the Kyosho Osmose 70, which people are really saying is a 50 and flies well with a 75.

Try a U-Can-Do 60. It sure sounds like that would meet what you are looking for. They fly great. I love my .46 size that I used a .704S on. I also have flown the 1.20 size and they can do anything and they look pretty good in the air.

Unfortunately the UCD manual specifically gives warning not to fly this plane fast[&o] which is the last 'requirement' in the OP:

East rc has a new plane out called the Lucky 13. Looks like a good design, not to crazy about the colors though.

If I could find a Skylark 70 or similar. I would be ok. But I would love to see the Bridi planes in an Arf.

Ken - have you considered a Super Sportster? The criteria that you are taking about - Basic old school pattern flying, solid knife edge ability, Good aerobatic ability but doesn't need to be a hover plane, and the wing airfoil needs to be thin enough to allow for some good speed can be met by the SS. I have a .61 2S in my 40 size (its also 15+ years old) and don't worry about speed. We had a deputy Sheriff stop by the club a couple of weeks ago, he used a radar on mine - 80+ MPH straight and level (flying into a moderate headwind). He couldn't get a good shot at the plane coming out of dive, but figure 100-110+ mph.

Just food for thought if you want to get in the air - get an ARF SS.

Not a pitch for Tower Hobbies or Great Planes - but I know that mine is a good airframe and it does what I want it to do. I think this is the 3rd or 4th that I've had over the years.

How about A Goldberg Tiger 60? A guy at my field has one and it looks real smooth with a 61 but I bet a 75 will turn it on!

I second the Tiger 60. I wouldn't get rid of mine for nothing! This plane will do anything you ask it to do and looks a Lot better in person than in the pic. I seen a lot of extras flying and they don't impress me one bit...but my Tiger?......Tons of Fun! Especially with a 90 super tigre on it or an OS 91 FX. Flys smoothe as silk and will land on a dime.

Your 75 AX will pull it Nice!

Get one! You won't regret it!

If I was to build the kit I'd chop about 5 inches off each wing and have a real aerobatic thriller.

I doubt a 2 stroke .75 would be nearly enough for the Excelleron 90, except maybe as a general sport plane, certainly too weak to fly any kind of pattern. Most people who bought them early who used 2 strokes were putting 1.20's in them.

Besides, the Excelleron 90 has been off the market for quite some time. I just happen to have one stashed away, though.

I didn't see a Giles anywhere in your wish list, but they are good flier and not so common at the field. Not sure who's to direct you toward, but I think there might be a couple of flavors out there to consider. Hope your search is short-lived.

I think the plane that best meets every need you described is the Great Planes Reactor. It has a long thin Pattern style fuselage and a super thin 9% airfoil. The control suraces are huge as well for 3D or shorten the throws and it flies awesome as a pattern plane or for making wide open passes down the field. It will fly a mean knife edge with very little coupling. I absolutely love mine. It seems to be the best of both worlds. It will fly 3D all day long but with a flip of the switch it turns into one hell of a Sport aerobat. I know of a couple guys here on RCU using larger 2 Stroke motors as well to power them. There has been some good suggestions here but the Reactor fits all the requirements you listed at the beginning. Good luck!!
