Default CA glue question?

This maybe a dumb question but, is CA the same as super glue?

Thanks

Yes, slightly different formula, but the same stuff.

They are pretty much the same. I do like that CA comes in different consistencies though, and I think that CA is cheaper per fl.oz. than superglue too.

Yes, and if you want my opinion Locktite Super Glue with the brush applicator is the best. $2.97 for .18oz - ouch! It's worth it. I build plastic static models and have for years. I have tried every super glue (CA) under the sun. Locktite is my favourite. With the brush applicator you eliminate the problem of the glue tip applicator getting plugged. I used to use a needle or pin heated red hot to open the hole in the applicator. If you need to apply small amounts stick a pin in the eraser end of a lead pencil and dip it in the glue. The Locktite brush dispenser bottle will accept the diameter of the pencil and away you go. Locktite remains fairly flexible unlike other brands. I recommend that you stay away from accelerator if you want the strongest bond. What's a 2 or 3 minute wait anyway.

Yes, I won a few Fine Scale Modeler Shows too back in the 90's. Bet you can't guess what type of planes I built and competed in? I used Locktite a few times with a toothpick for my applicator... it works well with plastic models and I used Elmer's white glue as a filler. Then one day I tried ZAP and I was hooked!

Use the good CA glue like ZAP, Great Planes or Mercury Adhesives etc. It has a slightly different formula and it absorbs into the wood better than the off the shelf super glues. Plus you can't get Super Glue in different thickness. It makes it easy to glue in the CA hinges if you use a thin CA with a long thin applicator tip.

I use a Medium CA glue for all the non- high stress area's... like applying detail, adding a antenna to a Warbird etc.

Hope I helped.

Zap's cool. Especially if you are glueing clear canopys. You built Kraut bi-planes, right?

Bill,
the CA tips are open really easily with no effort if you leave them for the night in aceton.

Yes, acetone, but put it in a sealed jar or by morning the acetone will have evaporated and your whole house will smell like nail polish remover
