White Creek Katana

This post is about the Creek Katana, I believe the Chief and GSP are the same, the Creek is different. Creek Katana has a sheeted foam wing, GSP has airfoiled tail surfaces. I like the looks of the Creek cowl better. I put a OS 1.60 on mine, but weather (and a cast on my hand) will prevent me from test flying it until spring.

All,
The Chief/GSP/Jett Hobbies Katana is the Same! They are made by CMP(China model Productions). I have built one they are great. I spent 6 months trying to deside between the creek katana and the GSP/Jett/Chief? and went with the GSP/Jett/Chief Katana from jett hobbies http://www.jet-hobbies.com
CMP is also releasing an Extra and Yak of this same size category, xcept they have incorporated a removable canopy/hatch for easier access. Both the Creek and the GSP/Jett/Chief Katanas are great planes. Here is a very imformative thread on the GSP/Jett/Chief. Hope this clears it up.

Dntmn, I love those wing bags! Did you use the 1.60 fx? Would I have to add tail weight to compensate for the weight of a Zenoa g-26? I understand that the shear web problem has been corrected on the CMP Katana. How's the covering? I was going to order the white Creek Katana yesterday, but their website was down, so I still have time to change my mind.
I notice Jet's Katana is $235 delivered, versus $200 @ GSP & Chief not delivered. Does the $35 added cost @ Jet offset all of the shipping?

Airplanenuts,
The wingbags are from wingbags.com they were special made for my Katana. Now that they have the pattern they are avalable from wingbags.com, ask for Matt.
I am using an OS 1.60fx with no added weight, Mezlik 18x6 CF Prop, Bisson Pitts Muffler, Perry Pump, I also bought CF Landing gear from http//:www.fiberlite.com
There is no lead added final dry weight is 10lbs 10oz
Jet hobbies are great I did a review for them a few months ago, great customer service
http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=193
Jet Has free shipping and a free scale pilot, so it works out to be about the same price.
I chose this katana over the creek because:
built up wing lighter than foam
airfoiled tail stronger than flat
I like the covering, it is not that transparent
that was too bad because creek also has great customer service

Just do a search on the OS 1.60, The Pitts is necessary and with the pitts you have to have a pump, the pitts does not make enough pressure to give the 1.6oz/min of fuel needed at full throttle. on the bright side the 1oz pump helps with balence. Some may argue that the cline regulator is better and it may be, but I have no expierence with it. My tank is over the CG, Some people have had luck by placing the tank behind the firewall and plugging one outlet of the pitts. One word of advice, burn-in the 1.60 on a test stand w/o the pump and with one outlet of the pitts plugged, It is much harder to burn-in with the pump/engine on the plane. I learned my lesson the hard way on that one.

Beware of the GSP Katana's! I just found out they won't get the new wings with corrected shear webs until next month. Jet hobbies says their current inventory has the new corrected shear webs

I just got my Creek Katana 120 in and logged in to read about it. This is a very nice plane and well built. I have a new ASP 1.20 Four Stroke and was thinking about putting this on here. I've only been flying about a year but have came a very long way, (Lots and Lots of hours on the G2 Sim) and have flown alot as well. This will be my first foray into larger scale 3D planes and wondered if anyone had used an engine similar to this. My goal is to work with this plane and practice aerobatics with it and work up to doing 3d. Thanks for any comments.

Hey Guys, Im finishing up my White Creek Katana and need help with the measurement for the CG. The manual says 130-150mm. Is that from the fairing at the wing root or the Leading Edge.
Thanks

Thanks Hot Rod, I used the Fairing last night and measured back to 150mm. I had to add 6 oz of lead on the nose. From previous posts that seems to be about the right amount of weight to add.[
] Im using a OS 160 and and have moved the rudder servo to midframe (pull-Pull setup), two hitek mini digitals for the elevator, sullivan 20 0z tank behind the firewall. Put a bunch of time in this baby hoping it will perform well.

Sounds close to what I have. I used standard servos in the tail, but also moved the rudder servo up with a pull-pull set up. I have a perry pump on my OS1.60 that I need to get tuned in a bit better prior to the next flight. The plane seemed to handle well on maiden.

I pluged one outlet on the pitts muffler and used oversized fuel tubing. In hopes to eliminate any fuel issues. Im ready to break in the motor and will let you know how it goes. I was also going to get rid of the fiberglass gear, I have some Carbon Fiber from a DP Ulimate that might be a bit stronger.
Mr Scotty (Build fly crash) has been assisting me in my efforts here to get it running and has been a great help.
Im going to go crank her up before I go to work.

Ok guy's,, another cry for help. My good friend put his together and was going to be taking it for it's maiden the following morning. He brings it outside the garage to take some shots of her in all her beauty. Duuuuuuuh !!!! He left it out there in the sweltering heat and has severely distorted the Canopy. Does anyone have one they do not use, need or want to sell?
Thank you in adavnce.

GOOD LUCK!!!!! I had the same thing happen to mine last year. I called Creek and thy told me it was not a defect because no one else had the problem.
I gave up and put a canopy off of a Cap 232 on it, and it looked great.
Sorry to hear he is having the same problem. I would buy one from midwest or hangar 9 and make it work.

I think they were a local hobby shop that started promoting their products wia web, that in combination with an ad they placed in model aviation is how i found out about them, They had a nice website, but for the past few months it has just said "under construction" I dont know what the deal is

Maiden flight on my creek hobbies White Katana. Everything went flawlessly. Great airplane, Flies damn near as precisely as my old Pattern plane but will fly 3D aerobatics better than a pattern plane. It exceeded my expectations.
Setup for maiden flights
Cg was at 125mm(no lead)
Controls slightly higher than instructions with lots of EXPO
Engine OS 160FX with Klien Regulator fuel pump
18X10 APC prop with 3 1/2 Tru turn
CG mounted fuel tank
Sub C flight battery mounted in at front of Engine box
Pull Pull Rudder mounted behind wing tube
5 JR 8231 Digitals on flight surfaces, JR 341 on throttle.
Anyone know were to buy another one? A Buddy wants one? I wanted the foam wing like creek uses not the built up type?
Thanks Brad
