Hello Zippi The KMP L-4 I have is not solartex covered. It is clear film which has been painted. Granted at first glance I mistook it for fabric, mostly because the add said it was fabric covered. I have found a few things wrong with the plane which I contacted Andrew Kondor about. He got back to me right away, and thanked me for the info. But as for the matter of the covering. I haven't heard a thing. It has only been two days, so I'll give it some time. A friend of mine also has one and as soon as he gets back from vacation that one will be checked. I know these 2 L-4s are first run. Not a excuse to me. I like to think the best of people and maybe the folks at CMPro pulled a fast one on Andrew. I hope KMP finds a way to make this right. 1(POed)builder

Another thought for you all. I have been dealing with the Chinese for about 20 years in many different fields. As you have seen from many building manuals, theres a lot to be said about the translation. What I mean is that the Chinese will say covering painted to simulate fabric and the translation we read actually says painted fabric. It happens all the time in other industries. I believe the issue warrants that in the future, Andrew Kondor should get a demo or sample and proof the marketing if this is the case. Just a thought. Bob

No matter what the Chinese call their covering it should have been checked by KMP when the first plane came in. They should have then adjusted the ad and contacted people the had pre-ordered to let them know they are not getting what was advertised. This would give them the chance to back out or continue to purchase the plane as is.

Update on the H-9 gear. After some flights it was evident that it was way to stiff for the plane being that the Grasshopper weighs about 5 lbs less than the H-9 Cub. Remedy!! Did incision on booty opposite seam and removed one of the two springs on each side then, sewed it back up. It functions perfect now for the CMP Cub / Grasshopper Very flexible!!

Bob, That H-9 Cub gear was quite a bit of a modification to do. One strut was too long and had to be shortened a quarter inch and then re-drilled to mount. Certainly is much stiffer than the CMPro gear also it now traks like a normal Cub does on take-off and landings. Oh well, This one wont crack at welds so it should be around for some time. What's next ? MM

I had to take off 12mm of each strut and re drill . look at my previous reply above about the springs. Mine now traks great, no different from the old gear

We have gotton a bit off track here. I just want everyone to know the KMP L-4 has a lot of issues. I have assembled ARF's from Great Planes, Hanger 9, and several others. From those vendor I got what was advertised. I just want everyone to know. I also see KMP has changed it's web ad from "beautiful fabric covering" to "beautiful covering". Doesn't do anything for those of us that thought we were buying a fabric covered plane. I can live with the other defects. I'm sure it will be a nice plane. One last thought, the rocket tubes are way to big. If you want to know more about this plane feel free to contact me. 1builder (except KMP planes)
