When i check the CG on this plane right side up it's tail heavy but inverted it's right on...which way do you check it upside down or rightside up?
I have an MDS 58 in her.

Upside down is how I check mine, most times the directions will tell you or there is a picture inserted somewhere around the balancing instructions, but inverted is the way most guy's do it.

I went through this same thing with my Sport Cap. I learned that the plane has to be LEVEL to balance it. If you just pick it up from beneath the wing, the tail is low, the CG pulls it down making it appear tail heavy. If you do the same thing, but bring the plane to level it will be the same, well nearly the same, upright as inverted. Since learning this I go with inverted, makes life easier. Good Luck

I put a TT Pro 61 w/ slimline pitts in mine, just had to put it a little to the left and when I added the right thrust. The spinner ended up almost right on center. only holes I cut were for glow driver and exhaust.

What I did on my Cap 232 40 , Tiger 2 , & Ultimate 40 was to install a cup hook on the indicated cg in the wing joint. I then use a coat hanger to suspend by . This way I can also check for lateral balance

this plane is SPORT for a reason. It has a slight dihede already built into it. Surprisingly enough it flies very well and tracks niceley if you CG it correct. Due to flying at a very unsafe field (long story for a later time) I have lost 3 of them
Didnt hurt too bad since I got them for under $70 a piece but anyway..make sure to keep the power up in turns as it snaps if too slow. Adjust the CG if your not comfortable flying it snappy like i do. it flies better than my Extra 300. It has a longer tail moment so it performs better. It sais its a 40 size plane but I strongly disagree as the wing span and length dicate otherwise. I had the 46fx on it and it was sorely underpowered. A large 4 stroker or a big 2 stroke is what it needs. Im gonna get another one later this fall if i can find one and toss a Saito 100 in it
any questions please feel to ask.

I just flew my sport cap this weekend, and was very disapointed. I have a Saito 72 4stroke in mine and its balanced at about 4.5 inches back from the leading edge at the root. Problem is it snaps to the right like crazy with too much elevator. I dialed in a lot of expo on the elevator and went to low rates with the connector hooked to the furthest notch out on the elevator control horn. THes mods make it a little better, but its still a bear when it gets slow. Also, it always snaps to the right. Anyone else had this problem?
Thanks

I had the exact same problem on all 3 of mine
If you Elevator down to a minimum make sure you keep speed under it. it does not do slow at all. Check the lateral CG as well, that will help. move the CG a bit forward too. Only drawback is you will lose some of the snaipness that makes the plane fun
Experiment with this and hope it helps.

I just now completed my H9 cap 232.
It has a Tower 75 and balances exactly at 4 3/4 upside down at the fuse with an empty tank. I moved the engine as far back as my Dave Brown 1.40 engine mount would allow.
First flights tomorrow after the engine gets a break-in.
Throws are setup light with as much servo mechanical advantage as I could get. Dual rates are NOT 3D yet - just a little more aggressive.

Running a Saito 72 in my Cap 232 and at 4-3/4" it balances just slightly nose down, exactly as I like. No lead. However, I will move the CG forward, maybe 1/4" or 1/2". First time out flying away from me and banked right to head back and got a snap I did not ask for! Don't have that much aerobatic time and that's scary. A club member suggested moving the CG forward, which I have not done yet, as I havent finished crash damage on the plane. It will need re-balance, anyway. Canopies are hard to come by and mine just came in.
My Saito, which is perfect for this plane and real reliable decided to flame out and I tried to make the field when I should have settled for a straight in from loss of power. So. . . .as I banked left (serious mistake) and tried to keep the nose up, it just FELL out of the sky from about 20 feet. Saw the wing fly off and knew I had damage. After talking with several pilots on this site I have now learned how to land a dead stick tapered wing. . . .NOT like a constant chord wing. I tried to turn to get some wind under the wings and doing that also slowed the plane=tip stall. Should be up and running in a couple days, as soon as the field dries out.

Just a Williams pilot and I added the headset and mic. Thought it turned out pretty good.
