Hi,
I'm about to outgrow my trainer, and I'd like to get a larger plane.
I thought about getting the Ultra Stick 60, and use the GMS 76 engine.
Any thoughts ??

The ultra stick is a nice plane, quite stable, and still aerobatic. I am not sure of what ARF's you can get a hold of easily in Isreal, tru to message Adrian, he is from Isreal also, and is quite a helpful guy. Are you looking at basic aerobatics, or do you want to go for 3d flying? If so, a funfly type plane may be a better choice. Or you could try the U-Can-Do-3D from Great planes, its also a good choice for a second plane, and no bad flight characteristics.

Actually my prime concern that it would be adequate for my not-so-expert flying skills. Something that is sane enough when set with dual rates, slow landings etc.
ofcourse I want it to be able to perform more advanced aerobatics, for later.
Other then that I'm pretty much open to any suggestions :-)
I'll take a look on the UCANDO3D.
Thanks

Several great choices available....take a long/serious look at SIG 4 Star. Very slow and easy on landings, tail dragger, can work anything from very docile, easy flier to great aerobatics. Thunder Tiger is also a good choice to consider.

TIGER 60 ARF! Great plane, and will allow for future upgrades. Has a 2 piece wing for easy transporting. Works well with a .61 2c or .91 4c. I have flown both kit and ARF, both are great flying planes. Mine is "On The Bench" at the moment. It is getting a Magnum .91 4c. Two other friends have them as well, 1 w/OS.91 4c and the other with a Saito .91 4c

How hard is it to perform the suggested modifications on a US60?( pull-pull, external servos, landing-gear reinforcments).
I'm buying an ARF 'cause i'm not too good with tools :-)

MoE666,
I have recently suffered with the second plane indecision and decided on the Four Star 60 ARF. It is low wing, and a tail dragger, still forgiving, but much more aerobatic than the trainer.
Personally, I wouldn't skip the step. I'd go with a second plane and save the Edge for later.
I also thought about the GP Big Stick, but it was tricycle gear and high wing and I didn't think I would learn as much. I think the Ultra Stick is a tail dragger. A lot of guys go with them for a second plane and everyone I know has been happy.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the popular choice, just don't get over your head on #2.

The edge 540 has got nice slow speed characteristics, so it may be suitable, with the right throws and throttle management.

An ultra stick is a good choice. It would fly slower than a Cub and faster than some of the lanes I saw. You can do it all with an Ultra Stick.

we have most of the above planes so i would recommend
the us40, great flier makes you look good .
seagull edge540, marvelous but not for a second plane.
ucando, covers the second plane completely, slow and soft but tune it up and all hell brakes loose.
and now the h9 funtana 40 just go out and buy it!!!!!

Adrian,
Can you send me a message with details where can I buy the ModelTech Dragon Lady, US60 or Sig 4-Star 60 for a good price ?
Supply seems a little short on 60-sized ARFs overhere.....
Thanks

It depends, was your "trainer" a flat bottomed wing, or semi-symmetrical wing. There will be a difference in transition to second planes depending on this.
Also, you mentioned your perception of your flying skills. If you are fairly comfortable with a high wing semi-symetrical plane, then you can consider all of the above options, as well as things like a lanier stinger. If you are flying a high wing with a flat bottom airfoil, you may consider a shoulder wing with a semi-symetrical airfoil.
Anyway, a little background on your trainer and flying skills would help for a better recommendation.

P-51B,
My trainer is a Seagull with a Symetrical high wing, with a TT46Pro onboard.
I'm really comfortable with it - landing with side wind, emergency landings after an engine cut and the little aerobatics that I tried....

f2racer,
I live in Israel - the selection is not as wide as in the US..... Since Adrian is an Israeli too, I thought he might had any info.
But thanks for the Modeltech link - I'll start looking into it.

MoE666,
Don't worry about the selection being different from the US, because you also have the ARF's from Vietnam available over there. I have seen Adrians post regarding these so you should be able to get them. Of course quality wise they may not be that great, but they are reasonable for the price.
So, have you made a decision yet?? Curious to know what your final choice is
