On page 18 look at post 437 and 438. I put a dle 30 in mine and a jtech muffler and did not have to cut the cowl to bad.

The DLE 20 has great power for this plane. I highly recommend it. Fly's mine really well at half throttle. Big loops are no problem. Flying elevation is 2200 feet.

Well, if the weather holds I plan on doing the maiden on Sat am. Forcast looks good. Mine balanced right on the spot and came in 12.75 lbs. I've added a few exra touches in the final finishing. Had some extra "Cub Yellow" & Black covering sitting around so I coverd the upper wing joints. They were very tight to begin with but I thought it really made it look like single wing. Also placed my fuel dot and access hole for adjusting the carb on the right side of the fuse in the black scallop. Hard to spot unless you're up close. Also added some cockpit coaming to the aft cockpit. Will do the same for the forward cockpit later. I just want to get this sweety in the air.

Ancient-Great job on your WACO!!!!! Get some pic's when you fly it... Good luck and let us know about the maiden.. I should have mine ready in a couple of weeks... Had to finish my back yard new fence before I got into trouble??
It is nearly done.. Now I can finish my WACO.

Helcat-I saved a couple of your flying pic's of your new WACO and showed them to my friends at my LHS today and told them I finished my WACO and slipped out for the test flight. One of them noticed the mountains in the pic and called my bluff.. Yours looks like the real thing in the fly by's. Thanks for the pic's again. Mine will be ready a week from tomorrow I'm hoping.

Your additional efforts look good. Just for your info, the wing is a three piece wing, center and 2 outer panels. The first picture below is of a UBF upper wing joint, the access panel allows the spars to be bolted together, center section to outer section. There is also an access panel near the forward spar for the same purpose as seen in photo 2. This UBF is similar to a YMF/UMF of the Original 1935 design. These GP Wacos are supposed to be modeled after the YMF-D built by Waco Classic Aircraft of recent vintage. On the WCA YMFs, the upper tank cover which forms the upper surface of the center section actually covers part of the joint, but just barely.

Ignore the above info and good luck with your maiden and future flights.

ancient i like how you did the wing and the carb access hole looking sweet....im still plugin away at mine just trying to overcome lil obsatcles like trying to find the right drill bill to drill my prop cuz they use such a weird size, and figuring out how to mount my throttle servo since its a rear carb my throttle is on the same side as my rudder servo. i was thinking bout mounting it next to the tank on the side

mogman is correct. They are simple tubes to vent the fuel tanks mounted in the wing center section. I have seen them in this shape (sort of a ?) and in a inverted L shape. They are usually hand formed so that they vary from plane to plane and I haven't seen any pairs that match. The Newer YMFs with optional auxillary wing tanks will have a vent tube on the inboard end of the tank (airliners has pictures of four tank setups). NC 14081 only has the center wing tanks and has the vents mounted next to the fuel caps (which are a different style than the one above) instead of behind.

Is it just me or is anyone else having a tough time setting up the waco with a dle30 rear mount carb and throttle servo

That's why I used the side mounted carb DLE 30. Now it will be easy to "tune" the carb and get to the adjustment screws.

i tried a similar set up except i mount to the servo right in front of the reciever plate sideways...i may try that servo arm thing though. mine came with a composite throttle arm extender rather that the metal one that i though it woulda had. All the dle 30 i saw are rear carbs. Do i need to run a tube from the pin hole on the carb diaphram cover to the fuse for pressure equalization in flight

GT no you should not need to run a pipe out. You should be able to tune any issues out of it. I did on mine.

Had a good close look at one that cocobear brought to Top Gun. Not bad for an ARF. It will never be a contest model, but that's not the purpose of this one. Like I said, it's not bad for an ARF.

Well, I maidened mine today.............Weather was perfect....5 mph down the runway, 72 degrees and a perfectly clear sky. WOW what a bipe. Rolled power on slowley to about 3/4 throttle and she lifted off nice and gently. Added about 3 clicks up elevator and that was all it took to fly hands free. Flying with the DL-30 at half throttle most of the time and it still did any aerobatic manouver I could throw at it. Got 6 10-15 min flights today. By meas. the fuel consumption I figure I can easly get in 20 min flights with some reserve left. It also drew a lot of attention at our field. This is now my favorite bipe. Mike (ACF)
