Hey, I feel the same as you, not much info to go on when it comes to a simple switch! What I want to know is there any that fail in the ON position, beside maybe that one costing 45 bucks!

I just bought the Miracle switch from Valley View RC. I got the one with out the fuel dot because I didn't want to run a fuel line back inside the fuse through the fire wall. I could just imagine a fuel leak inside the fuse. The switch is very heavy duty and used 14 ga. wire I think. I had to locate the switch on the outside of the fuse, I really wanted to put it inside the rear cockpit but the switch would have to be directly under the servos. If I would have located it where it was clear of the servos then it would have been where the pilot would fit. So I had to choose pilot, no pilot, hidden switch exposed switch. So the pilot won out. I got one of those Opto-Kill remote gas engine kill switches.
I went for the side mounted carb on my DLE 30 and had a hard time with the choke and coming up with a direct way to connect a manual choke wire. I ended up with a wire coming out of the side of the cowl I didn't like it but there was no way to use a servo connection.
I'm in the last steps now and only have to clean up all the wires inside the fuse, hook up the Opto-Kill switch. I'm going to use my Gear switch in my DX8 TX. I have to then put the wings on and do a Balance check and final calibration of all the flying surfaces. I'll follow the manual and set up dual rates. I usually don't use dual rates and opt for expo instead, I get that from flying helis. Once I'm happy with the test flights then I remove the dual rates and just use expo.
Well we're in for five days of bad weather so the first good flying day for me is Easter Sunday and there will be no chance for a flight, I'll be hiding eggs for the grandchildren. So the wait continues. I'll report in when I get those first flights in.

I think I may just go with some plain jane MPI switches and a few Nimh batts. Very simple that way. I think because this is my first gasser I'm getting overly protective with this dual batt deal. Heck, my just as expensive P-47 uses a MPI switch and 2000 mah Hydramix nimh :)

OK it's ready just waiting for the weather to clear enough to do a maiden.
First picture is of the switch location. the second picture is of the way I
had to run a wire to connect to the choke on my side carb DLE 30 not pretty but it works.
Now I put my Robart incident meter on the wings and elevator and I must admit I'm concerned because while I'm at 0 on the main upper wing
I'm negative on the lower wing and 4 degrees positive on the bottom wing??????
I balance perfectly with the 5.25"

Question

The spacers that fit between the firewall and the DLE30. Did you epoxy the spacers to the firewall? Or, did you just epoxy them to each other?

I lightly CA'd mine to the firewall so it can be removed if need be. I did that because I was getting tired of having to put the motor on and off so many times and having to deal with the spacers, standoffs and having to hold everything in place just right. Then it was much easier to remount the motor. I did epoxy the spacers together and also put thinned epoxy on the whole spacer to fuel proof it.

Oppie, I finally got a loose minute; 'Been meanin' t' tell you, That's one fine-looking plane! An' that tiny li'l switch stickin' outta th' cowl is just fine as-is, or if it bugs you bad enough, paint it! The whole thing, all you've done With and TO this bird, jus' REEKS of practicality in the Service of your Art. My hat's off, Sir!

Roaddog2 thanks man, I took the wings off today and did the final final step, I velcro'd the pilot in his seat so it's ready just waiting for decent weather. The pilot is always the last think I do when I build a plane. We got tornado's all around us and I don't want to get caught in one of those. So now I will begin my next project the Hanger 9 P51 Mustang "Blue Nose Cripes A Mighty".

Is it me or is anyone having issues with the carb and the fuel lines coming out the firewall The choke butterfly seems to be rubbing one of the lines. I may put in one of those ring spacers they provide to move the tank back a skosh.

I had to put 3 rings on the tank neck to keep the fuel lines from rubbing. I also reduced the number of lite-ply stand-off spacers to 2 spacers as I installed a prop adapter for a single hole prop. The adapter added approx. 1/8" to the distance from the firewall the the prop hub. ACF

Paul, I got mine from Valley View RC. http://www.valleyviewrc.com/Accessories.htm Real simple to modify the DL 30 to accept the adapter. Plus they have the instructions on their web-page.

WOW. That looks great! Got to maiden mine today. Does not like wind very much. LOL. We had 10-15 winds with some gust and boy was she a handful when the wind was up. Other than that she was AN AWESOME flyer. No bad habits and no surprises. Had her set at factory CG and the throws at just above low rates and lift off was a none event. The landings in the wind were exciting at times, but not to unpleasant. Looks great in the air and handles wonderfully. Did not have a lot of time because of the holiday but hope to get more this week!!:D:D:D

Nice looking prop, but you should drill your next one with the bolt holes rotated 45 degrees so the bolt holes are not lined up with the center hold. Its just the way I was taught.

He means that the bolt holes are two per blade side. Imagine looking the 5 on a dice and put the blades on the side. That is what you would see if you looked at your prop. It is suppose to put your prop at the2 or 3 oclock position for safe hand starts. I have done them all kinds of ways. If you have your engines tuned properly you don't have problems with the starting.
