Lucky Joe,

Its funny you mentioned the 110 ,I was at the LHS today and I noticed a 110 sitting behind the counter, it was ordered by a guy I know. so I gave him a call on the cell to let him know it was in. To my surprise he told me he didn't want it now ...Sooo I picked it up...:D This is #4 for me...( I just couldn't bring myself to leave it behind)...Is that sick or what.....JW

you need to sell one to me ;)

welcome back Joe, glad you got to enjoy some nice weather.

Didn't quite make it to the Bahamas, Sarasota for eight days of 80 degree, sunshine filled, relaxation. No flying though. Missed a lot of bad weather here and I'm going out now to try and plow some ice covered snow. Get my chores done so I won't miss the foam fly at the dome tonight. Later, Joe

Here's another wheel pant design.... more attune to the UCD original design scheme....
These were done up my myself in PAintshop Pro... using wet/slide decal paper.... applied then clear-coated.

Update guys: I got a YS 1.10 now! Actually I went a little overbaord and now have

2 YS 1.10's
1 YS 1.20
1 YS 1.40

what have i gotten myself into...

1 goes into a Pattern plane, one goes into the UCANDO, the 1.20 goes into a Funtana 90 thats yet to be purchased and the 1.40 will be sidelined until tuned and an airplne worthy of its power is found and purchased :)

Well I kinda got carried away in the marketplace and on the "other" auction site. I searched for months then it seemed like the airplne Gods heard my cry and a plethora of them showed up for purchase. One of the 1.10's was sold becuase the guy screwed up the needles, now I will reset them and have a nice engine to fly :) I didnt win the lottery but that would be nice. i'd go full on Giant scale and foamies only :D

yes I am now broke as well... [:@]

cumn thru, which spinner did you use on the UCD 60? I have one ordered and am getting a lot of good ideas on how to assemble. Thanks, Roy

Roy, 2-1/2", aluminum, True Turn I believe. ground it out for the large prop. I think that they offer that service from the factory now. Also I balanced the cone and the back plate. Amazeing how much that they are off. So close to the center that it may not be noticeable, but it was my preferance.

Well boys, took advantage of Saturdays 40+ degrees, sun and lack of wind and loaded it all up for a trip to the field. Experienced electrical problems, which I now feel was a glitch in the charger. So to err on the safe side, I let it sit and floated some foam instead. Now today is a different story. High of 48 degrees, lots of sun and no winds. Not bad for early February here in the North east. The mighty UCD is cycleing now and if wifey dosn't hook me, I'm off. Anticipating the roar of the YS 110. Ohhhhh Yeahhhhhhh!!!! Joe

RE: u-can-do 60

No joy. Apparently the few months that it has been sitting was enough for the stopper in the fuel tank to dry out and shrink. Fuel leaked at the stopper and I wasn't about to tear it out at the field, so back in the truck it went. Again. So..... I floated some foam, again. Couldn't waste this beautifull day. So I figure its not too early to do my annual fuel line change and get a new stopper. Maybe the weather will hold out and will still get a chance to realize the power of the YS. But then again, it is February. Joe

Joe, or anyone else, I have a YS91AC. I plan to do beginning 3D about 2 mistakes high and sport fly with the UCD60. What would be a good prop. I bought a APC 15-6 which I could return if it is the wrong one. I plan to use a seamless tank. Thanks, Roy

AcroJo 02-07-2005 06:08 PM

RE: u-can-do 60

Roy, a four pitch is good for 3D, a six pitch would work for sport. With the UCD you are limited to a six pitch max. Watch that airspeed. Joe

RE: u-can-do 60

High 50s today, no wind and had to work. At least this evening I installed a new stopper for the tank and new fuel lines. 30 minute pressure test and good to go. So................tomorrow is 34 and snow flurries. AARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!! The weekend looks better though. I'm getting sick of the whine of electric motors. I long for the sound, smell and slime! Joe

RE: u-can-do 60

Joe, thanks on info about proper prop. I hope the 4 pitch won't overspeed the engine and float valves. Roy

hey joe, i had a couple of guys drive over to fly from the club in ridgecrest today i never met before and the president of the club waited till i landed and he keep staring at my ucd and finally walked over towards it and said: you know i never liked the looks of that plane, and hesitated a bit then said: but that looks pretty good! he said he never seen one with a tinted canopy and that did it for him. so there is hope for us after all!!![sm=thumbup.gif]

Well, I've always been a bit on the abstract side. I think its a striking design, with good visibility, 'on a sunny day'. Although, I never did care for any shade of blue in overcast weather. Like I said before, it grows on you. Joe

RE: u-can-do 60

Yo Joe,

After many months, mine is finished except for the final balance. Ran four tanks of fuel through the new 1 1/2 year old FA 100 this morning with wifey sitting in a chair keeping the tail feathers secure ;). Without rehashing the old posts, about where were you at with the needle settings ( 15 X 4W APC) ?? Oh yeah, the tank is in the stock position and the carb floods like crazy[:'(]. I have the Cline ready to go, but thought it best not to install it until I have some more time on the engine. Been using a hemostat on the carb line wrapped with tape as not to cut the fuel line. Can't believe how much oil that Saito throws around and I need to put about 15 minutes more on the engine. Last run was about 2 turns out and she seemed to transition pretty well although still rich. When would you suggest that I install the regulator. Thanks, B.....

RE: u-can-do 60

Hey Brian! I think I was at 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns out depending on weather conditions. You will need a little patience with that Saito. It will be at least a gallon till it seats properly and you endure the slow process of low end adjustment. Not to worry as you will run it leaner and get the low end sorted out while you enjoy flying it. Then do the Cline thing. I've found in RC, patience is rewarding, especially breaking in an engine. I'm getting ready to shut this place down, get home, grab a bite and its off to the dome for me. Sans the UCD-E. Maybe next Sunday on that one. later. Joe

RE: u-can-do 60

Joe,

Thanks, That's where I kind of thought it shoud be as she ran real good about 1 1/2 out, but didn't want to push it too early, so I backed her off. I burned up all of the 15% Wildcat that I had left and will be switching over to the 20/20 Powermaster. Figure if it's good enough for the YS, might as well use it in the Saito. How long do you think I should wait to install the Cline and what should I expect with the needle settings?? Thanks, B....

Brian,
I run Byron 20/20 in all my engines. You will need to play around with the settings but its worth it...Hows the Twist project coming ?

Joe,
I now have two UCD3D 60s NIB I bought the second one the other day just because it was only 150.00 ...So who has the soft spot...
