RE: BME Edge?

Good news...

I just got an e-mail confirmation from Max...

There indeed was a mistake in the CG stated...

The correct starting C.G. range is 4"-5"... you can move back from there based on your preference & skill level.

This should make it easy to balance for anyone... (unless they have an elusive BME 55) :)

Jemo 08-04-2004 08:13 AM

RE: BME Edge?

The BME 55 weighs nothing, so it would be hard to balance.............;)

[X(]Hey were are the flight reports. Isn't any one flying a bme yet. Waiting to hear how this plane compares wiht the WH-EDGE:eek:

Yeah really Ronk... :)

We want a more detailed report... and video would be nice too eh?

Even a few snapshots of your install would be neat...

RE: BME Edge?

Been out of town on business, sorry. I will get together some photo's of my assembly and try to get a video on line. Tried some elevator snaps, it does them at around 35º and are very controllable. The maneuver it does very well is an elevator with 5º spoilers. I think I will be able to do a landing like this but not enough nerve yet[X(]. I ended up changing to 5" CG, 5 1/4" was a bit tail heavy. I moved the throttle servo foreword a bit more then I like but with PCM I don't think it will be a problem. The thing that is most impressive is the slow speed stability "rock solid":D.

RE: BME Edge?

Going out today and will get some photo's of the BME hovering, doing torque rolls, etc. I did find a problem with the "hard points" where the wing bolts are. Hard point, give me a break. It is a balsa block with a 1/2" dia. X 1/8" ply cap glued on. When out tighten the wing bolts it crushes the balsa under. Easy fix though, drill it out with a 1/2" flat point bit (not to deep) down to the wing tube then epoxy in a 1/2" hard wood dowel, problem solved . I will pick on any plane so other people will not have the same problems. All ARF's have some problems, at least the ones I've built. All and all though this plane is hard to beat:D.

RE: BME Edge?

Has anyone hovered this plane yet ? I was wondering if it would just hover in other words does the airlerons go far enough toward the fuse to be affective in a hover ???

RE: BME Edge?

Great to see people getting this plane. Keep the reports coming and please post pics and vids if possible.
In case I missed it somewhere what do you all think of the hardware that comes with it?
Very interested in this plane as my first gasser.
Thanks

ronk1 08-08-2004 08:08 PM

RE: BME Edge?

Yes this airplane hovers very nice in fact it is more stable then I thought possible with a plane this size. Harriers and elevators are better then any plane I've seen in the 50cc class. I'm going to get in trouble for this statement but the 35% Carden's(Edge) at our field don't do them any better[&:].

ronk1 08-08-2004 08:13 PM

RE: BME Edge?

The hardware is worthless[:'(]. The only thing worth using are the hinges.

Maudib 08-08-2004 08:17 PM

RE: BME Edge?

Come on now Ronk...

The Wheels and axles are fine too...

The tail wheel is fine but heavy I think...

In fact the only thing I saw I probably won't use is the wheel collars...

Other than that there isn't much else is there? Misc. scres & hings...

I mean people should know what "hardware"copmes with theplane and what usable/what's not...

ronk1 08-08-2004 09:04 PM

RE: BME Edge?

Ya, maybe a bit tough on the hardware because there is not much there. Please though, the wheels look like something you would get on a $2.00 toy and are to small for a grass runway. Some of the 4-40 socket heads do not fit a SAE hex(or metric) wrench. The tail wheel is to heavy to balance the airplane. I call them as I see them. But I do say again, the plane is very nice. The hardware an ARF or kit comes with is not a big deal to me. I have my preferences when it comes to hardware, rarely do I use the items that it comes with. BTW the axles are fine and the aluminum landing gear is extra nice.

RE: BME Edge?

Not biggie Ronk... I just wanted people to understand what hardware was bad and what needs to be replaced...

Didn't know the screws were goofy... I knew they were US standard but the sockets are odd sized huh?

I intend to use the tires as they are dense foam but extremely light weight... I would call them a plus not a negative...

I fly off grass and I don't think there's be any problems with the 3" tires...

of course I'm lucky in that we have a guy that keeps it like a golf fairway...

RE: BME Edge?

I bought my rudder servo "HS-945" and the engine mount today. I have most of the servos temp mounted, but not completly, getting closer!!!!!

Maudib 08-09-2004 04:29 PM

RE: BME Edge?

Too cool man... keep her going...

I'm sure you will, but just double check each "temp" mounted servo... sometimes we can get excited and ahead of ourselves and forget we only put 2 screws in the servos or no horn screw, forgot locktite on the gear bolts or wheel collar set screws, etc... :)

These are the little gremlins that come and cut your first day short or worse...
:(

I am SOOOOO buried with work right now that I just can't get to mine for a while... so have at it and let's get some video huh guys?

Dago Red 08-09-2004 04:39 PM

RE: BME Edge?

Im gonna have my plane looked over at the field by the guys. Make sure its all there. Im gonan replace the servo mounting screws with hex heads. so on. Now the horn screws will be a must to check. I lost a 1/4 t-craft after the horn fell off. The plane made a turn to the left, never came back.

[:o]Hi flyers....... Still no good flight reports[:@] come on you guys we want to know how this plane handles. And engines your using;:)

RE: BME Edge?

I'm using a FPE 3.2 in it. As for the some flight reports look at my earlier posts. This airplane flies very nice. The best 3D scale plane I've seen in this size. Landings are a breeze. I'm working on a video and more info but something always gets a higher priority. Work, home,WIFE,etc.

RE: BME Edge?

Im using a Quadra 50 as power. Should be enough power for it.

Airo-RCU 08-10-2004 01:07 PM

RE: BME Edge?

;)Hi; I bet a DA-50 would do a fine job:D

I'm pondering putting an MVVS 58 in one, but I really want to put a cannister on one. I don't know if this airplane can be modified appropriatley or not.

It can take the mufflers, but the bolts for the landing gear will have to be cut down.

Heres a pic of inside the nose.

heres the edge now with the quadra mounted. I had to cut more cowl than i wanted. The coil stuck out more than i wanted too, o well. I had to cut the front area of the cowl to to let the fly wheel fit inside. There is a small amount of room in there, but fits perfect.

Hello Maudid,
I really like the side by side WH-BME Edge pics that you have posted.

If you have a chance, can you post another pic showing the color scheme under the wings and stab please?

RE: BME Edge?

How much does it weight with the Quadra engine? My Weight 17.5lb with a Brison 3.2, I can't see the plane weighting 15.5lb if it is 10lb when it came out of the box.

Dago Red 08-16-2004 01:13 PM

RE: BME Edge?

im not sure the weight of the Quadra, but it the plane is coming in around 15, maybe 17, between, ill go and look the wieght and post it later tonight.

ptgarcia 08-16-2004 01:23 PM

RE: BME Edge?

15 or 17, that's a pretty big difference. Hopefully it's 15-lb otherwise its another busted advertised weight by the manufacturer, although 17-lb is only 1-lb over the listed range.

Dago Red 08-16-2004 05:48 PM

RE: BME Edge?

The Quadra 52 is 5.1 pounds. SO, that would be 15.1 pounds add the radio equip, maybe come in at 16-17 pounds. Heres a few more pivcs of the lovley edge.

Thats what im saying, lol. Id also like to thank my g/f for putting up with taking pics with my plane, i know she dosnt care for the plane all that much, ive spent $900 on the plane, and not her, lol. At least shes putting up with it.

Y N C 08-16-2004 09:47 PM

RE: BME Edge?

I weighted the radio equip prop spinner tank and all the hardware that is needed and that is 3.1lb already so it is impossible to get 15.5lb. my is at 17.5lb dry and it still flys great with unlimited vertical on a brison 3.2 with a menzs 21x10 prop, I'll try a biela 22x8 this week and see how it goes.

Scoubidou 08-17-2004 06:33 AM

RE: BME Edge?

YNC
I think that you have WH and BME Edge, right? Can you see a difference between both ARF? They seem to fly at 17.5lbs.

Which one do you recommend?
Daniel
