Greetings Group... Has anyone who has had a Supercub kit ordered for a while and is expecting it in the June shipment, received yours yet?

I have had one on backorder from mid march. I called Dave Patrick Models and was told thy would be her in May. Now I am told thy will be in June. I don’t know why it takes them so long to receive their planes. I saw one and it is great so I will wait.

I too ordered, but through my local hobby shop, in mid to late March... After I posted my question, I went to the "horses mouth" and asked DPM directly via e-mail, and was told it will be "at a minimum" of another 5 weeks.

June so far has been a long month, I want to get my hands my kit!!!

Just talked with DPM about my order expected in June. They told me 5 more weeks. Looks like August now at the earliest.[:o] I have everything else required to complete it on hand, so I'm chomping at the bit.

You fellas using the OS 160 twin, what brand and size prop are you using? I'm using a pro zinger 18x6 prop and can't get a good loop. It falls out of it or if I try to do a large loop it runs out of steam unless I apply down elevator first and even then its iffy. I was thinking maybe a carbon fiber 18x8 but wanted to see what others are doing. The engine is turning 8200 rpms with the pro zinger.

Not in a position to comment on that rubyred since I still haven't flown mine (don't ask) but Dick Pettit used an 18/6 wood zinger at 1200 low end and 7500 rpm top end I think. I do know when we looped a real one we nosed it over first to get up a little speed going into the loop so if you're applying down elevator in that sense it should loop with no problem? What fuel are you using? I've always used 15% and seems to be ideal for me.

Considering that plane is rated from a 90-1.50 glow it must be a real slug at the lower engine sizes. I'm actually using 20% nitro. Could be I have an engine that is just not putting out the power or maybe not fully broke in yet. There must be 10 tanks through it now. How ever it does fly nice and Ive been please with it.

This may sound like a dumb question but were you on hi rates or lo rates when looping?

rubyred, I know you have a twin 1.60 but I figured I would offer this just as a point of comparison. I'm running a Saito 1.50 turning a Master Airscrew Classic 16X8 at 8800 RPM. I can loop my DPM Cub from "level flight" with authority at only 3/4 throttle, both tight and large loops! A wood Zinger 18x6 at 8200 should be yanking that Cub straight up and over the top with ease. If you're not, I suspect that you're either loosing power on the way up and/or maybe it has to do with your set-up. Did you balance the plane laterally? How much are you weighing?

rubyred, I had a OS160 in my Stinson and found I got much better performance with a Zinger 16-8 over an 18-6. The motor will get stronger as it breaks in.

According to the engine prop size recommendation chart with the engine the 18/6 should work fine but I installed an 16x8 prop on it and will try it later in the week. I want to be able to make those big loops and not have to horse it through. I haven't weighed the cub yet but I'm sure its not much different than most others

Guys,
I'm working on a hanger 9's Cub. Since this seems like Cub land and I'll ask this question. Does anyone know the correct size for tail brace wires.? The ones on the a full-size seem relatively small. Can't seem to find an answer anywhere. If you have photos of your tail brace wires. Please post them. I am using a Magnum 160 Twin with onboard glow driver. Sounds awesome. Using a Keleo creations exhaust.

There are several ways to do them, you can use metal straps which is what some guy's do but I used alum. tube. Sorry I don't remember the size but I bought alum tube that the wire would fit into and flattened the end of the tube and drilled a hole. Then I added a small nut (2-56 I think) over the wire and another short piece of alum tube and epoxied it all together. I bolted the alum first to the horiz and vertical tail then roughly sized up the wire length and cut and then inserted with epoxy, that way I got the correct length. Inserting picture of real cub and mine. I really didn't have to add the sleeve above the nut, don't know why I did that but oh well!

looks perfect. About what size diameter is the wire.? I can find tubing to match. It looks perfect scale size. Most I've seen are too big

I just bought either 2-56 or 4-40 12" wire threaded on one end...can't remember which, I'd go check but right now my wife has me cleaning the shed [:o] need I say more.

I was told by a 160 owner (Lorne, again) that it probably puts our the same power as a 120 single cylinder...which makes a bit of sense when you look at all the moving parts (internal friction) and the increase swepted area of the two pistons. They more than make up for it by the sound though!! As Bud mentioned, real cubs had to dive to build up energy to take it through a loop, which more often than not, was egg shaped - the ol' gal just runs out of poop at the top. Never heard of a Supercub doing a loop, come to think of it.....

I haven't check out OS's prop recommendations, but fount it interesting that my G-38 (2.3 cu inches) uses the same size prop!!!!

Hi Bud..... you will be the first to know...He got a left seat job in the Navajo. I told him he has to fast track his career so he can afford to pay for my retirement :D

I've got a pair of Byron Husky floats in the shop that I am going to try and fit on the cub...they are huge, so they should be able to keep all 22+ lbs of it afloat!! After 3 years, I finally have a pilot...now I will have to build up that cockpit kit --but the floats come first!!

The OS 160 twin makes thhe same power as a SAITO 150 but can swing a larger prop.

Just talked to Sandy today at DPM and was told it will be three to four more week before the Super Cubs will be it stock. It looks like mid August now!!
