New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Ordered the new CMP Cessna 182 .52 ARF
I have been following the 1.20 thread and thought of starting one for the 1.20's little sister. I should be receiving it by the end of the week. Does anybody have any tips on this plane? I will be powering it with a Magnum .70 RFS 4st and AR7000/ds821 all around for controls. |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
If it is the same, I recieved mine a week ago. It is listed as (scale) and it really is. Has flaps, epoxy resin gear and wing struts, scalloping on the flight control surfaces, includes robart type pin hinges. alerons, elevatore, flaps have curved pockets and rounded leading edges( there's a name for this, I don't remember what ). This is the nicest ARF I have ever seen!
Runing mine with a OS 70. Almost had mine ready to fly today on thr 4th. Ran into one glitch. The exhaust wouldn't exit out the port with the stock header. Ordered the short 120 degree extention as to have it look as good as the rest of the plane. Used every thing with the kit except changed to metal clevises. I highly recomend it. Again it's beautiful!!!! Never seen a 40 or a 52 size with flaps and the detailing on the flight surfaces before. GET ONE!!!! Good luck. |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Cool, thanks for the info.
I have a couple of questions... 1. Does it come with the spinner? I didn't see it in the pictures of what comes in the package. 2. If it doesn't come with one, what's the required size? 3. Did you mount your OS .70 inverted or sideways and did you have to cut a hole in the cowlling? |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
No it doesn't include a spinner. Requires a 2 1/4" spinner. I mounted my engine sideways and did have to cut the cowl, but it looks good. Just do a good job. When I get the engine mounted I take a piece of paper and cut a hole just large enough to clear the rocker cover and tape it to the side of plane( be very carefull when taping, not on stripes), remove the eng to complete other assembly. Hold the cowl on and mark it with a pen. I use a dremel with a sanding drum( 1/4") to cut hole and remount eng when ready to fit cowl and sand eng hole to clear. Take it slow.
Good luck! |

Blues.man,
I just got this plane last week, am using the same engine in mine. You had to get another header? I was wondering about that slot in the bottom of the fuselage, did'nt think the muffler would clear. Thanks for the heads up. You are dead-on about the looks and finish of this plane, mine is flawless. I think i'm gonna spread a little epoxy around the inside though. Let us know how it flies!! |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
At first look I thought that it would be perfect! But as I got to that point, found that with just the stock pipe the angle(about 120 degree) the angle would be great. The cyl head is a bit outboard and the pipe points inward a bit and with just the stock pipe it points to far inward and can't screw the muffler on without cutting the pocket out. By adding another 120 degree pipe to the end before putting the muffler on you can adjust it in and then down right in the pocket and the muffler will stick out the bottom of the pocket about 1 -1 1/2" and look great! You'll see when you get to that point. OS part #72109600 or tower #LXCB00 is what we need.
Good luck! |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
I will check with my LHS to see if they have the header. Thanks for the info guys, if you have picures, post them here. I will post them as i get the plane and start working on it.

RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
hi there,
i'm keen to see some more pics and hear some build tips. i have one on the way and can't wait to get started. i'm thinking of maybe using a Saito 4 stroke. here is a few great pics of someone doing an electric conversion of this kit. RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Hi VFR, Could you please tell me how wide the nose wheel pant is (Outside Edge To Outside Edge). I am wondering if I could put a Robart oleo strut on it ? (#654)
Thanks Michael |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Sure can, I'll check on it tonight after work.
The assembly is going pretty well. The only couple of issues i've encountered are the servo trays in the wing when installed, they will show through the other side (top) of the wing. I had to trim them down some. I also had to trim down the opening a bit so the servo would fit. I am using DS821s all around. It has taken me quite a bit longer because i am installing NAV lights on the wings and vertical stab. I am not using regular LEDs but the new luxeon super bright 1 Watt LEDs. They are so bright you can see them in plain daylight. I'll post some pics tonight. |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Hey all,
Has anyone had any trouble with the hinges? Was running in the OS 70 today and the top hinge on the rudder broke, right at the head of the hinge. Did not notice any excessive vibration, no buzzing or such, maybe just a bad hinge. I plan on cutting the other hinge and re-installing three hinges in the rudder, thought about drilling the broken hinge out and just replacing, but the set -up just looked too weak in the first place. Any other ideas ? |

i am not at that point yet but the hinges seem ok so far. i epoxied them and pulled on them really hard to check them and they hold.
here are some pics (including the front wheel pant for Michael). |

Hi guys, Just letting you all know that the Maiden of 182 went well.
First flight was prettt uneventful except had to feed about 7 clicks down trim to fly her level at 1/2 throttle. Stall was nose down, no left or right wing action (ps when it drops the nose it will pick up speed very quickly. As a friend said as he was watching" Looks like a brick just fell out of the sky". landing had a bounce and twisted/bend front LG. Second flight added "Taped " 100g to the cowl, bent the gear into shape and took it up again. this time only required about 4 clicks down trim. Landing again a little bounce but was able to hold the flare for 3 point landing :) CG location was with 46ax / pitts muffler 1100mah battery under the tank and 200g strapped to the battery. 65-67mm from leading edge. Will be adding an extra 200 g under the tank. so in total 500g strapped to the battery under the tank with 46ax/pitts muffler cg at 65-67mm. I think I have figured out the cmpro dodggy Cg locations. In my opinion, after testing they must messure the CG after they have a full tank of fuel.?? also with the nose LG I put a spring btween the mount and the bootom colar to give it some "suspension. Dave PS AUW is 3.8 kg |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Glad to hear maiden went well.

RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Hi Guys,
Glad I found this thread, I finished mine last night and put the maiden flight on.... Power setup: Motor: AXI 4130/16 ESC: Jeti 77 Battery: Thunder Power Extreme 6s 5000 I had to do many mods and change up a lot of the hardware to feel safe in the air with this plane...( I can explain later if you're building one... ) Here she is sitting pretty waiting for her maiden flight: http://www.teamtracon.com/CMPCessna50/DSC_0151.jpg In-Flight Shot: http://www.teamtracon.com/CMPCessna50/DSC_0165.jpg Power off hot landing: http://www.teamtracon.com/CMPCessna50/DSC_0176.jpg Post Maiden Flight, AWESOME !!! http://www.teamtracon.com/CMPCessna50/DSC_0138.jpg The flight went GREAT !!! She needed 6 oz of weight to balance, she seemed a little nose heavy..but like someone once said... "I've never seen a plane crash on a maiden flight that was a little nose heavy" She cruises around at about 1/4 throttle no problem...she does have some tip-stall characteristics at low speeds though....so be careful !!! Any questions, I'll do my best to answer... All the best, Sam |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Yup both the .52 and the 1.20 are sure pretty planes.
Did you put the lights in? |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
yes I did, running the Curtek Nav Light System...

RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Very nice. Sorry to hear about the aerial. I am working on mine right now. I should have it finished by this weekend or the next at the latest.
Thanks for the pics!! :D |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Had a great flight today....but my front wheel pant got smashed all to heck...nose gear bent...
You guys were right about the nose gear being crap... I guess I need to find a solution... Sam |
RE: New CMP Cessna 182 .52 size
Put mine in the air today, was blessed with a tip stall to the left, luckily got it leveled before she kissed the ground. Bent the nose gear, and destroyed the front wheel pant. Bent the nose wheel back into shape (very soft metal) topped off the tank, fired up the OS 70 4s, and tried again. Kept it on the ground longer for more speed, went up with out a hitch, flew great, needed about 6 clicks of down to keep her from climbing. I gotta say the plane looks really good in the air. Tested the flaps at altitude, very effective, decided not to use them, slight bounce on second landing, bent nose gear again, not as bad but was still pointing back. Will be replacing the wire on the nose gear, too soft. I fly off grass, found out that you need to keep it on the gound longer for more airspeed. Good luck with yours.
