Great Looking SpaceWalker GBR2!
And thanks. It's a great reference.
Got any more pictures of your SpaceWalker?

I have a saito 182

and I was thinking to put it on this plane what you think? I have one with a YS91 and not enough power

Paul Terry 11-04-2003 06:17 PM

Saito 182

Wow FC26,,,,
Hold on now,
That would be ridiculous.
Don't you have anything better to put it in?
Maybe a Saito 1.20 but even thats a little over board.
Remember, This is a put put plane that likes to fly slow, with that much engine your fingers arn't going to want to pull the stick down, also you already have to add nose weight even with the bigger engine but if you add that big of an engine you'll be adding tail weight which will make the plane have even more wing loading. I think that even the guys that put 1.20 's in them will tell you
that a 1.8 is way too big.
And what do you mean not enough power?
A YS 91 ought to power it great. remember (This is not a 3D plane)
Go get a U Can do 3D if you wan't to hover.

RE: Saito 182

the Saito 120 is not much lighter than the 182. with a beautiful sound. and the cylinders would come out of the cow like in th real SpaceWalker.... I think I am going to try it ;))

Paul Terry 11-04-2003 06:31 PM

RE: Saito 182

OK,
Let me know how it works out and post it!
I guess if you've tried it with an Y.S. 91 you at least know how it flies without all the extra weight. P.S. Do you have a picture of your SpaceWalker?

3wExtra 11-04-2003 06:36 PM

RE: Saito 182

nope.... sorry. I will get pics of it with the 182 ;)

RE: Saito 182

i have one with a 130 saito twin and it flys great. i did not have to add weight but the battery is in a cut-out on the fuseage about 2/3 back to balance. great plane

Paul Terry 11-05-2003 01:51 PM

Twins

How about clearance? And power?
Is the clearance and power worth it?
I'm not asking this because I want a
twin but people do need to know.
And did you do it because you had one laying
around the house or because you....?[:-]
It sounds like a good idea IF and only IF you already had one.
If you had to buy one I think it would be pointless. And it would cost you an extra $300
The O.S. 91FS or overkill O.S 1.20FS would be the better choice

3wExtra 11-05-2003 01:54 PM

RE: Twins

Paul why are you saying a better choice? I do have a couple of os 120s, a saito 182 and a couple of ys 91s, I just thought that it would be nice to have the the 182,,,,

Paul Terry 11-05-2003 01:56 PM

RE: Pictures

O.K. I see that more of you have
SpaceWalkers than I thought.
So,,, If you have a picture of your
GP SpaceWalker post pictures of it.
This is kinda a picture forum!
And tips of course.

RE: Pictures

paul am i getting you right...? I have a question, and wanted to know what people have out there, and you are telling me not to post in this thread if I do nothave a picture?

Paul Terry 11-05-2003 02:00 PM

RE: Pictures

O.K. Re-wording,,,
" I think the O.S. 91FS or Overkill 1.20FS would be a better choice if
You didn't have a twin laying around the house. This is mostly because of money$ "

RE: Pictures

i have all those, some of them NIB and looking for a house. and since the ys91 is not enough, i was wandering if the saito 182 would be ok. just like that one with the 130..
I will try to fit the 182 and post pics

RE: Engines and Pictures

Yup I love mine too, It is a great lazy sunday flyer. Probably my most relaxing plane. Love doing hammerheads, and those big loopy rolls, slowing it down and getting those super tight loops, and slow low passes are great. It is a plane I truely love, but it is not the end all be all for me. Sometimes it is just too boring, and it really is not all that great in windy conditions, not as boring anyway. I hated the amount of lead I had to put in it, I may still put a 120FS in it. All that said here is how mine is set up:

OS91FX w/ Bisson Pitts for 91FX
Futaba ball bearing servos all around
Hanger 9 gold aluminum servo arms
Dual Elevator servos Ran 4-40 rods through the formers
(should have seen me and the wife wrestling the fuse)
Pull-Pull Kevlar on the rudder
Upgraded Aileron Hardware 4-40
Oversized tires no wheel pants (with that fat wing maybe I should put them back on LOL)
Sealed all the control surfaces.
ah and my best mod:

A stuffed Rocky pilot velcroed in, still can't knock him out on outside loops he he
(As in Rocky and Bullwinkle, the flying squirrel... I need pilots that can fly without planes...)

Oh and I like that it is 1/4 scale, flys bigger than it is, but I can fit it in the bed of my pick-up truck fully assembled.

I have flow other peoples Sigs, and they fly great too. Next time around I will probably go with the big 1/3 scale Sig, and gas. If you think the GP is scale like in flight, it only gets better when it is bigger JMHO...

Flying The GP SpaceWalker!

Just a stupid question.
Have you flown it over the runway 2ft off the ground inverted?
or have you Dog fought with it?
I admit, it can be a little too scale and too relaxing but remember this plane is very versatile and will do most of the things you want it to.
besides, most of us have more than one plane anyway. to me this plane is like my show plane and I take it out to the field on the best of days and show off both how real it is in the air and on the ground. And after I've been relaxed I pull out my Kangke Cap 232\60 out of the car and hover, more inverted passes, and a little 3-D!
I like having these kinds of options every time I go out to the field!
It's also soooo fun to fly and horizontally hover in a no gust wind. It's really really fun!
As I keep on saying GreatPlanes did an outstanding job with this plane!

RE: Flying The GP SpaceWalker!

No I have not flown it 2' off the ground inverted, I wouldn't want to. I have planes I risk, and planes I do not. I was not trying to insult the plane, I Love it as I said. I really like flying more pattern like planes, real groovy, fly em in fly em out type planes (Tai Ji 60, and DPM 330L are my current favorites). The Spacewalker is a great forgiving airplane, Great Planes did do a great job. I would highly reccomend the plane to anyone, for me sometimes the self correcting qualities annoy me to boredom. As I said if I lost this one I would want another, and just next time bigger. Seeing how cheap the GP has become though maybe I should pick up a spare.

I do apologize if you took my post the wrong way, it was just my opinion on a great plane!!!

Paul Terry 11-06-2003 10:19 PM

Quality

No no, No need to apologize.
It isn't like that. I was just explaining how versatile this plane is.
And that really, every body needs this kinda plane.
It's away's good to have a very very nice scale show off at the field plane.
This plane is the right one for it!

Here is a picture of my beauty.......

I extended the landing gear making it 2" taller and moving it 1" forward. Also, check out my custom cowl. This plane is great!
To compare thrust measurements… I have a ¼ scale Spacewalker that weighs 10pounds 1oz on a commercial scale. With a O.S. 91fx (15% cool power) turning a APC 15 x 6 at (10,600 max) 10,300 it can hold a hover but can only very very slowly pull out vertical. I then switched to an Ultrathrust muffler with 15 x 6 APC and it went to (11,700 max) 11,200 flying (I do a lot of verticals and hovering, so I like to keep things rich) and now the plane pulls out of a hover very nicely.

One good Versatile Airplane!

Great looking twin engine!
Does the cowling fit over it? Any pictures of it?
Thats pretty cool, As I sead in the beginning
this plane is so versatile. For you guys that have
over sized engines,,, and for anybody.
I have found that 4inch wheels are scale to some of
the full sized SpaceWalker pictures. That's if you want a
: CropDuster look :
I really like it. I have a 1inch tail wheel and 4inch mains
and this plane really looks tough and yet its still holds the
full size realism. in fact It looks even more real
than something like 3 1\2inch wheels. Also the ground
clearance is excellent!
If I wanted to I could easily put a 17inch prop on the bird.
I have several pictures but my camera won't download the
pictures onto the computer :( I'll keep trying to get it to work.

Hey guys!
Well, My new SpaceWalker is almost done!
Here are some finishing pictures .
The one thing thats a little tricky with this plane is the
canopy gluing. There is also a picture of my scaled
out instrument panel! And look at all that room in
the fuse! I love this plane.! I'm adding the lights,
wing caps, ect.
So I still don't have a complete picture.
I should have it done in a couple of days!
