How would the 66 Extra fly with a TT 91 or Magnum 91 4 stroke. I am not looking to do any wild 3D stuff just some sport flying and basic aerobatics. How hard are these planes to take off and land. I like the size and price of this plane. The web site is very good and I have heard nothing but great things about thier customer service. This alone has won me over to try this plane. I have been reading this thread for about a month. I have been doing a lot of research trying to decide on which plane to get. I really like the looks and style of the extra. Have you guys been happy with yours. Let me know as I hope to order one in the next few days.

a friend has the 66" Extra with a Magnum 91 but is waiting for some warmer weather to try it out, I am planning on getting the Sukhoi to put my Magnum 91 on when taxes get done. I have talked to someone who has the Sukhoi with a TT 91 and tells me it has plenty of power and the Magnum should do just fine, I had mine on a T-34 that was 9+ pounds and it flies it well, I would go with the TT if you are going to buy one of the 2 engines. It has some more power than the magnum but in my opinion either would do well.

I already have both engines. I don't have the TT on anything right now. I was just wondering about the weight issue with the TT. Will I be able to get this plane to balance with the TT engine on it. It weights about 2.5 oz heaver than the Magnum. I would like to use the TT because it is a stronger engine.

Hey Dave my "Back up 66 300s showed today", now Sammy's Girl II is really going to get a workout...I can push her a little harder knowing I have replacement parts on standby LoL...

Actually yes my dryland is from all the snow in the last few weeks, only difference is it's one big slushy mess...and nope I couldn't land on it unless I had floats on my bird...

I have a 66" Vector Flight Extra with a OS 1.20 pumped engine on it. I have 6 flights on it now.
WOW, what a responsive airplane. Mine would snap a little when pulling hard on elevator.
Using a Futaba t6xas transmitter and Hitec 645's, elevator throws were at 40%, reduced them to 30% and the snap
seems to have dissappeared. It takes very little elevator throw on this airplane. Floats in on landings.
Great airplane...everyone should have one.

HEHE I'm getting gitty :D:D:D Going to order my Sukhoi thursday and have already gutted my T-34 of all the stuff for the Sukhoi, I can't wait. A friend also just got the 66" Extra. I wonder how they will compare in flight with the Sukhoi Weight being 7.25-7.75 lbs and the extra being 8.25-8.75 but has the extra 6" on the wing Also I have some JR DS811 servos from my UltraSport (I miss that plane, You get yours fixed yet Dave) Would that be enough for the Sukhoi with Torque: 54.0 oz/in if not I'll just have to order some more and save these for my next 40 size.

Dude! I remember you from the endless US40+ thread!

I'm in the process of sheeting new, foam wings for the US40+, getting rid of the retracts and putting a MVVS 49 with mini-pipe on it. When I cut the ailerons out of the wing, I'm going to make them a bit bigger than they were. With a 12x4W prop it should be a 3D maniac!

I'm importing MVVS engines into Canada now, so if you need a great deal on an MVVS 91 for the Sukhoi, let me know! VF planes rock!

As a matter of fact....

And if you look real close...it does have your name on it!

There is a thread on the Wild Hare Edge 540...a fellow has one with a cannister muffler and a 32 ounce fuel tank, it's all up weight including a full tank of gas is 20 pounds. The MVVS 58 pulls it straight up at 1/3 throttle!

Yea that was a endless US40+ thread and I read the whole thing and went crosseyed LOL The only thing that did not get damage on my US40+ in it's crash was the rudder, Even had to order a carb body for the YS63 although the radio was ok it was a complete loss, I plan to get another some day and perhaps find out more about those foam core wings your using HEHE I couldn't take it any more and ended up ordering the Sukhoi last night and already have a Magnum 91 sitting in front of me waiting for it, BUT I am thinking about my next build (Hog bipe) and will be needing a 91 for that so I may be looking you up in few months for a MVVS, Been hearing a lot of good things about them but have yet to see one. Is the 91 one of the geared down engines or a standard drive. arrggg I can't wait till that big box gets here with my new toy.

Standard drive....I have one on my VF Extra. I have a 15x6 on it, the MVVS 91 spins it with ease.

Started putting my 58" Extra together today.
Only took me 6 months or so to get around to it.
Oh well. Now that you guys have some time on yours any
advice ?. VF now recommends 2 degrees right thrust on the engine
and no down thrust unless needed. Also to beef up the tail feathers, has there
been a problem in that area ?.
Looks like a great plane, and they are on sale again. Might need a 66" one :-]

I recommend you look back in this thread at the mod I did on the tail, This is a good idea, Stock configuration is not as good as it could be.
The plane is an exelent one to have and it flies very nice. I needed a little down thrust and a little right but other than that you have a nice toy there. I have the 66" BTW.

I flew my 58 incher yesterday again and, now that it's is trimmed perfectly, it flies as straight as an arrow.

Two things worth looking at are that it is very pitch sensitive, and only very small elevator movements are needed to get really tight loops, and, as further steps to avoiding snapping with excessive elevator movement, make sure it is laterally balanced.

The wing seems to be very efficient, and doesn't stall until going really slowly, but that means that any lateral imbalance becomes more noticeable when the wing does finally stall, and the plane can roll at very low speeds.

Nice scenery, but the runway is 50 feet long and 10 feet wide! ;) Mountain on one side and the ocean on the other too! Sam and the boys in Gibsons get real good at spot landings!

Seems like everyone from that old US40+ thread is migrating!
