Thanks, I saw what you did.. I am planning on building the fillet back there with balsa
and then guleing everything in for bracing etc. It appears that Ultracote "True Red"
is almost a perfect match for the red so there should be no problem blending things in.
Going to try a Magunum 91fs in it so I want it as strong as possible.

Hey David. I did a rekit on that Ultra Sport. Ripped the wings right off it.
My fault.
Did you get that transmitter straighted out ?

Thanks for the tips, will keep them in mind.
I had the GP Extra ARF 40 size and it was pretty much
the same way. What size engine do you have in yours ?.

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Too bad about all the banged up US40+ s out there in the world! I think it is a great airplane and can't wait to get mine back in the air. One of the club vets cut me some foam wing cores, just have to get them sheeted up....all the radio gear ended up in my Extra though, so I will have to replace that.

I did send my TX back to Futaba, took ages to get it back, they re-soldered a bunch of connections, retuned the TX, replaced my battery, and checked out the RX. I haven't had a chance to fly with it yet, but it still makes my G2 airplanes shake thier tails (rudder twitching) just like it did before I sent it away :(

Man, I guess I lucked out on the transmitter. I told you didn't I they replaced the whole thing with a new one, receiver too. I haven't seen the tail twitch since. It was definitly in the transmitter. It did it on all my receivers. Mine was one of the original ones, had the white index mark on all three rotory knobs at the top. Maybe thats why. The new one they sent me is a later design.

This Extra looks like a lot more fun then the Ultra Sport. That was too much work for it's short life time :-].

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Yours was doing the rudder twitch thing too?

"unfortunatley" I only busted up the wing on the US40+ so it's not a write off! A new wing and it will be back in the air. Now that I'm importing/distributing MVVS engines, I need demo planes in all popular sizes anyway...at least that's what I'm telling my wife and Revenue Canada!

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Yes, it sure was.. It was really getting old. If I remember correctly several people were having that problem at the time. At the time I had several recceivers and it twitched on all of them. Then the plane started acting like I was getting hits, my guess is it was turning into more then a twitch. I was using a PCM receiver and it never did go into failsafe. Bax over in the Futaba section and I both thought that if it was "hits" the receiver should go into failsafe. Anyway I sent the whole package back and they sent me a brand uew set up. They even put the heavier springs on the sticks and paid the postage on it. Sounds like I caught them
on a good day :-/

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Hey Guys,

Just got back from the dry land, been raining here off and on all day, went down there with a couple of friends (Hard Core Rain Flyers)
My friend Jan (Dave you know him from RC Canada) put on a nice flight with his Ultra Stick...(The guy can fly and land a plane like pure magic!) I got one flight on my Extra, she flew like she was on rails today even know it was raining during my flight..

I dialed the throws back on the elevator again...the last time I was out I had increased all of them too much and when putting her into a spin I almost didn't or couldn't recover...she was ok though...

She seems to like only 40% of elevator...I'm sticking with the 60% for ailerons on low rates and 100% on high.

Hope you guys get a chance to fly this weekend..

Good Flights..

Sam

Finally I got my Sukhoi today, I had a issue with the paint on the belly pan being smudged from being packed too soon after painting and I sent them a e-mail about 3 am figuring I would get a reply monday and I got one back at 3:30 offering to send me a replacement belly pan, It can't get any better than that from a company. this thing looks great and I remember reading to reinforce the landing gear block and when I looked at it it seems as though they did it for me, Blind nuts are in a 1/4" ply. Now I just need to get some weather to fly this thing.

Dauntae:
I've had mine for several months now and yesterday a box showed up completely unexpected with new wheel pants and a belly pan.
VF goes the extra mile for sure.

RE: RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Are the new wheel pants and belly pan the same material as the cowl?

I don't know how they can make it (financially speaking) at that price. I think they could bump the price up $30.00 and still have no competition.

Miloh 02-01-2004 12:19 PM

RE: RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Yea they are still the same but heavier, thicker.

Miloh.

Are the new wheelpants still two piece ?. Can't belive it, they offered to send me the newer
pants and belly pan if I needed them. Unbelievable....

RE: RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Yes, it seems to be the same molds for everything just more volume to the material, thicker stuff.

RE: RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

I had a similar experience with VF. I did not do a very good job on the decals for the cowl. They kind of wrinkled up at the nose. I also hacked up the hole for the head pretty bad. When they e-mailed me for a response as to how I liked the plane I let them know what had happened with the cowl and they sent me a new one with decals! Now I was not asking them for this nor was I complaining about anything, they just said they wanted me to be happy with my plane from VF. I thought this was incredible. (Keep in mind the contents of the kit did not contain the control horns as it should, so I had to go buy some. But with them sending me a new cowl for free more than made up for the lack of horns.) The way they do business is very refreshing and unusual in this day and age. I will probably be going back to them for another purchase sometime in the near future.

Cool Sam!

As short as your field is, at least there is no snow on it!

Did you ever try programming a "flaperon" mix on your radio to slow down your approach?

RE: RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Hey Buddy !

No I haven't tried that yet, I'm getting pretty comfortable flying this bird now and the speed thing really isn't an issue for me any more...

I still suffer a little puker butt if I have to dead stick it, but other than that..... it's all good LoL !

I'm slowly putting together my new 66" back up Extra...it's all nice and shiny (Unlike the one I'm flying now, she's a little banged up from learning how to fly her).

I'm trying a lot more silly stuff in the air and want to get flying these Extra's down cold before switching the engine and radio gear over.

How's things up in your neck of the woods ???

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Well guy's I finaly did it. A 66 inch extra 300 is on the way to my house. The decision that I have to make now is which of the two engines that I have on hand will be the best one to use. I have an almost new magnum 91 4 stroke that I am flying on a 4*60 and I also have a Thunder Tiger 91 4 stroke that is sitting on the bench right now. The TT engine still needs a little break in time on it but runs good enough to fly with right now. the magnum is a great engine and flies the 4* with authority. Either of these engines will fly the extra good. I would like to use the TT engine as I think it will be a stronger engine but I am worried about the weight. It weighs about 2.5 oz heavier that the magnum. Have you guys had to add weight to get the CG right on this plane. Any suggestions?

You should have plenty of room in the fuselage to position the batteries far enough back to balance an extra 2.5 oz engine weight. I use a YS 110 in my 66 inch Edge and didn't have to use any extra weights to get a perfect balance. If necessary, you could mount the battery on a ply platform and suspend it back in the fuselage.

RE: VectorFlight 300s, anygood?

Hi guys, I am using a 91FX, balanced almost perfectly. I moved the battery back a bit after some time cause I like the nose just a tad on the light side. I find this gives more elevator authority in dead stick situations. Also easier to hang the plane on the prop if the CG is moved a bit back.

Sam, nice backdrop! ;) The 3 blader looks great.

Anyone flying this with a 1.20 4 stroke? My Surpass 1.20 has rested too long.

Your going to love that plane the second you open the box, I have the Sukhoi and a friend has the 66 inch extra and we are putting Magnum 91's in ours and there is someone on this forum with the TT91 in his Sukhoi, I have heard the TT has more power than even the OS so I would use the TT and like David Cutler said, there is plenty of room in the fuse to place the battery far enough back to even it out. My Sukhoi is finally put together and I have 4 JR digital servos in it right now but will be getting 2 high torque for the tail group when I go to the WRAM show sat. Can't wait to get this one flying, Got tempted today because it was sunny calm and just looked great out there except for the high of 29 degrees F...... Just can't stand the cold anymore.

Thanks for the info. I can't wait for mine to get here. I have been reading this thread for about 3 months. I don't know how many times that I have been through it. This thread and the vectorflight web site are what made me decide to buy this plane. I haven't even recieved my plane yet and I have gotten 3 e-mails from vectorflight already. I was going to buy this plane about a month ago when they were on sale for $149 but I got deployed to another location for a month (I am in the US Air Force) and had nowhere for it to be shipped to. I e-mailed them this information and they gave me one at the sale price. Now that's great customer service in my book. I will definatly buy from them again. Like I said before I can't wait to get my hands on this plane.

Vector flight is the best I have ever purchased from, They just sent me another E-Mail making sure I am happy with it and ask for any feedback good or bad, most other companies could care less what you think once they have your money. Just wish they had a Bipe, would get one in a heartbeat if they did.

I'm thinking about .91fx or Saito 100 for that beauty... I've been reading this thread since january, and I want to thank everyone for the stories, tips, and the hooters (thanks to cooter) :D
