Default How Many mAh?

What "mAh" do you recommend for a 6v battery pack powering a Hitec 555 Receiver, 3 HS81 servos, & 1 HS85 servo? Whats the difference? Will higher be better? Will higher cook the little micro servos? Do I solder them in Series?

How fast will you be flying (prop & rpm)
How big an aircraft? (control surfaces)
How long do you want to go between recharge?
You can start with a 1300maH battery.
This should address most needs?

Your standard pack 600maH is fine.

mah in a battery pack will not cook your radio. The Number of cells will do this. A 4 cell 350 mah or a 4 cell 1500 mah pack will work fine but the 4 cell 1500 will just last longer.

ahhh, thanks, Hitec. Thats what i was looking for...

What about making the pack, solder the cells in Series? That adds the voltage in ea. cell, correct?

What's your take on NiMH? do i need a special charger?

Each Ni-cad or NiMH cell is about 1.2 volts.
While you can stack cells in series, never put cells in series with different maH ratings. You can only put different maH ratings in parallel

Batteries in series:
Voltage is additive.
Current rating remains the same if the cells are of equal values.
(It is very wise to use cells of the same chemistry and mAH rating.)

Batteries in parrallel:
Voltage remains the same as just one cell.
Current ratings are additive.
(It is not wise to charge any batteries in parrallel without special equipment and battery monitering devices.)

I think this is covered in Red's Battery Clinic.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want that much power and voltage for such a small aircraft?
It is a good idea to get a peak charger designed for NiMH when using this type of battery.
Charging at C/10 or less with a standard charger won't hurt much though. Just keep an eye on the pack near the end of charge to see if they get warm. When they do get warm call it good-they're done. Discharge and repeat.

Jeff

And don't forget to take your TX with you to the field!

SRT5331 If your planning to use 5 batteries to run only your radio, ie; 4 servos then here is something you should know.

Some radios take 6 volt (5 batteries) and some will take it but not like it. It will "speed up" your servos but in the long run they won't last as long. Because 5 batteries draw more ampherage they will acutally have a shorter time. If your just using 4 servos then 4 batteries of 1200 mah are more than enough especially if they are nimh.

If you were running 6 servos and retracts then I could see going to the 5th battery. Just thought you should know.

SRT,

It sounds like you're really going for overkill on the battery for a small plane. As someone earlier noted, a standard 600 to 700 AA nicad pack will be more than enough for A LOT of flying on that size plane. 6 volt packs have a higher current drain, but you've still got a lot of capacity with AAs for that size plane.

If you're not familiar with soldering and assembling battery packs, you might want to go to RadicalRC.com and get a pack for not much more than you can assembly one. Or he has all the components: wire, connectors, shrinkwrap; that you need there a good prices. You can get a 6V AA 700 mah pack for $11 or a 1100 mah AA pack for $15.

Howzat,
Joel
