Default Voltage increasing regulator component

A while ago someone here posted a note about a type of voltage regulator that increased voltage. You could take a 3.7V lithium and increase the voltage to a desired voltage, ie 6V. I recall the device was a component with a name something like TI5nnn. Anyone recall this article who can direct me to it, or give me the details of this component ?

Yes there are such devices but they are quite inefficient and usually for very low current consumption. One which would power most RC equipment would be bulky, expensive and inefficient.

Thanks Rodney but this does not answer my question. Does anyone recall the post I am referring to or have info about the type of component/device I am looking for. My application is lowpower and size is not a primary concern as it would be to power my plane cam.

If nobody recalls the post ...

Does anyone know the name of some components that will raise the voltage of a battery, similar to a voltage regulator, but raises the voltage, instead of drops it. So a 3.7 lithium could power a 6 volt device (but at less efficiency). I seem to recall in the original post the unit was something like a transistor or a 6 pinned IC, and you needed to add a capacitors as you increased voltage. Anyone know of it or something similar ?

Some of these units are 85% efficient, measure about .75"X1"X.3" weigh 6.5 grams and are capable of handling over 8 amps. They are made but Texas Instruments but many have an input voltage cut off of 4.5v. If you go to the TI website you will find them. Look for PT5541, that will get you started.

The capacitors are used to help remove ripple from the signal.
The pt6670 series regulators work with an input voltage from 3.1v to 3.6v and output 5v to 12v with 85% efficiency.
