2.4 Land and air???

Ihave often wondered this myself. There seems to be this 2.4G block of channels and Idont see it designated for just air or just land or even just RC. Some people have used "hack modules" to convert their 72 or 75m radio to 2.4 and they dont sell an air or ground version. Although Iunderstand if you get a 2.4 ground radio it wont work with air receivers.
Weird subject if you ask me.

There is no distinction for ground or air use of 2.4 under FCC regulation in the united states. There is as noted a distinction in the VHF bands 72 for air use only and 75 for ground usage only. Also there are six channels in the 27 band that are combined usage.
There are a number of 2.4 module/Rx systems being used for conversion of certain older 72 radios and this is perfectly legal and the systems from the majors are certainly not hack modules.

I neglected the two bands on the ham bands requiring an FCC lisense are also combined usage ground and air.

Jeffie never heard that one but the problem is when you use a derogatory term like that here in the beginners forum To someone who does not know it implys either illegality, substandard product or both.
There will be folks who read that and it may well inappropriately affect their choices in equipment.
That is the only reason I brought it up.
Hmm here are all my little soldiers lined up and only the one on the left was not originally a 72 unit

2.4 is the same for both. the air and ground designations for the 72 and 75 was so you would have separation at designated air fields. the ground could be used anywhere and unknown to air pilots so they had to be different so that they would not jam an air channel. 2.4 doesn't jam so no need for ground or air designation.

If you read the original question "...Are air and ground 2.4 the same... " the answer is both no and yes, as pointed out above in several posts. And, as I pointed out, the most obvious is their appearance and usage. I would presume that you could use an air transmitter with ground equipment, but not vice versa.
And, as this is the "Beginners Forum", I would have to presume it as being asked as a beginners question, possibly because the OP has a ground transmitter in 2.4GHz that he/she may have used with a car and would like to try it on a plane... or again, vice versa. Not that what was posted as answers is not good.. quite the contrary. But technical answers to a basic questions often confuse the matter at hand.
