i like my RealFlight G5.5.. but for 180 bucks thats a far cry from free.. but totally worth it to me.. 180 bucks and all the free crashes ya want!!

Phoenix is a good flight simulator too. I know thats the best one for helis, but im pretty sure its good for fixed wing too.

FMS is a free flight simulator, but cannot say about quality, I'd say it's average.

It is so much because so much development went into it. And it also comes with a well made controller. If you're on a budget, picking up an older version of Real Flight or one of the others is a good bet. I see Real Flight 3 for sale sometimes between $50-$75, and it is upgradeable to the newest version if you decide you want it later. I used FMS when I was starting out and it is good enough to help with orientation and basic control, but it doesn't simulate any stall effects, ground handing issues, or wind.

Istarted out with G3 at my dads place since he got me into the hobby, Ihave since purchased my own set and the controller is almost identical to my 6ch Futaba that Istarted out with and still happily use to this day. I paid 180 bucks for it and don't regret a single penny its that good for me! There are others out there that can be useful too but RealFlight is what I am most comfortable with.

Is there a demo version of the $180 dollar program and of the clear view program?

There might be a demo program for the RealFLight v5.5 but you might want to check with that web site.

RealFlight BASICis also available for $99. It doesn't have as many planes and options as the full version. It works fine for learning to fly. That's what I've got.

Hi raydar,

I have downloaded the Free sim R/C Desk Pilot and it requires direct X 9 or 10, I'm using Windows 7 which has Direct X 11, I installed it and it's not working, is it not compatible with Windows 7 Pro? Or is it missing some dll file, in fact it never asked me for any dll. What may likely be the problem, if you can help me.

Thanks raydar and cgretired ill check it out. Here a suggestion for armody try right clicking on the program and go to properties and findcompatability, try a few different settings.

If you are going to buy a sim, stay away from the Realflight Basic. Get the G5.5 I have RF basic and it's a pos!!! You wont learn much from it. I feel like I pissed away $99 !!!!

I dont like it because all you can change is wind direction and speed. The wind speed is a guess because it doesnt tell you the mph. You have to taxi to a position so you can see the wind sock and adjust the wind parameters. And the wind is steady...you cant program gusts into it. Plus, you cant alter the aircraft either. I feel that using the RF basic is a waste of time. Im going to get the 5.5 which I feel willreplicatereal world conditions as close aspossible.</p>

The best free one I have found and it really is pretty good [link=http://rcdeskpilot.com/]RCDESKPILOT[/link].It is new and simple but better them FMS.

Clearview is growing fast they are really starting to expand into Realflight type scenery and model textures. It has a fortune in user created content and blah blah blah. I have gotten them both working perfectly with a DX6i and my Futaba T6EXAP .. Both of these programs have a lot of support here [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/simulators-172/]that other forum[/link]. The DX6i does not need to be powered on, the Futaba does. Both work well.



I believe you should research these programs as well as all the others mentioned. They all have pros n cons. If you want free, go with deskpilot, if you want to pay a little for a solid program that is improving constantly go with clearview. If you want top of the line that is capable of overpowering a lot of systems, has great support, high price tag,and every bell and whistle there is. Well.....

In my opinion you can not go wrong with Realflight G5.5 if you have the money and system to use it.
