Box of ancient goodies

Ah...yep...thanks for the pics John...
The engine in post #7 looks like a Spitsy with the tank milled off...doesn't it?
KP...if you decide to run these engines, use a fuel with lots of oil in it...
Typical fuels for these small engines have a high oil content...higher than most modern fuels used in newer, larger engines.
A typical fuel for these small engines might have 20 to 25% oil...most of it, or at least half of it Castor...and around 10% or 15% Nitro.

If your really wanting to get into RC sell all of this stuff on RCU. A lot of guys will still buy this older stuff. Once sold use those funds for a nice used or new 40 size trainer. You will spend more time troubleshooting and mixing and matching your current stuff with little success.
Been there done that, lol. Get a nice used glow or electric trainer and have someone help you fly for the first month or two and you will be solo by summer.
Good luck,
Mike

Put all this stuff out for the trash collector, find a flying field and talk to the pilots, buy a 40 sized trainer... if you start with junk, that all you will ever have.

That's some great "advice"
(just the trainer part and finding a flying field )KaiasPapa the radio parts might be worth at least a few $ to a vintage radio collector...Kraft parts are not junk. ebay them, and the engines, and you can get a few bucks towards some new equipment.
The old Cox engines typically sell quickly and easily there. The Spitsy has been modified, but they are not all that easy to find, so you can at least sell it as a parts engine to a collector.
Here is a forum just for small engines:

A LOT of us "ancient"
modelers started with the small 1/2A type engines...they can be a real learning experience...

There are shows on TV about your type.... hoarders. If you are in this hobby for 10 minutes you will start your own pile of used and abused. No reason to take someone else's pile. My house if full of just the new stuff I bought. My time is worth something... and likely more than the effort it would take to get rid of this old "stuff" (another word really applies). Old Cox engines... even when brand new they were mostly a pain to keep running. Stop kidding yourself... save the space and rush this stuff to the curb and don't think about it again.
Would you trust a plane on Kraft servos? come on.

on_your_six...where do I start...?
First of all, IMO you really could stand some improvement when it comes to your reading comprehension skills.
The O.P. asked questions...asked if anyone was interested in the stuff he posted pics of. If you are not interested, then why even bother posting a "reply"?
No one suggested using the old servos / radio equipment...they can go to someone who might want them for their collection. I've seen some of your other posts (in other forums ) when it comes to vintage equipment...it's clear that you have no appreciation for the earlier stuff.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10...m.htm#10053331
I see by your profile that you have been at this for 4 years...and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but at 4 years you are still a newbie.
As far a being a "Hoarder"...
I prefer the term "Accumulator"...
I have been lucky enough over the years to have known MANY great people in this hobby, and they have given me their modeling estates just previous to their passing away. (my house is on it's way to becomming one big Fibber McGee's Closet. That's another "Vintage" comment for us guys who will appreciate it
)
KaiasPapa...I apologize for the rant, and thanks for labeling the stuff "goodies"...
You might not get a whole lot of money for it, but you never know. It should be at least worth trying to sell it on ebay or here in the RCU Marketplace. (ebay has a much bigger audience though, obviously.

I just deleted four posts. The two folks that posted them know why. And, I don't much care who started that short dialog.
It must be the weather.. or they put something in the water, I'm not sure what, but note the paragraph directly above the edit box....

Yeah...I noticed that...
And after all the politically correct editing I did...
(yeah, must be a touch of Cabin Fever )
Oh well...back to something more constructive...

Better watch what you say in these forums.
The "RCU police" are watching you 24/7
Well, unless they're at the donut shop, but, they will return!

Papa,
Look over in the 1/2 A forum for more info on Cox motors. There is a bunch of guys still flying them. But I agree with the other comments about getting some new gear to learn on. The 1/2 A stuff can be tough on a new guy. KEEP THOSE ENGINES THOUGH. I would loose the old radio gear.
Read everything at the top of this forum about getting started, its well done and will save you a lot of grief.

My name is Mark,
I am the president of the local RC club here in Pullman/Moscow.
I would LOVE to help you out getting started, we have a couple guys in the club that may have expertise in the smaller motors. I personally have nightmares from when I was a kid and would spend all day trying to get them to run, only to crash within seconds of actually getting them to run.
FYI we meet the first tuesday of the month in moscow, its a great bunch of guys that are diverse in interest and knowledge.
If you would like to get ahold of me before then, feel free to email me. We can get together and visit.

There Ya go my friend. This generous offer is typical of clubs all over the country. The time to get involved is right now Not waiting for warmer weather. Even if you have no equipment yet. in fact its better. Since you be getting mentors involved in equipment selection. This is always the least expensive and most expediant path to go in the realization of you dreams.
John
